- We all love a long day in the saddle, especially when it comes time for a roadtrip, cross-country ride or Iron Butt attempt, but a sore butt can put a damper on the fun. I've got some strategies to help keep your butt from getting sore from tips and tricks to seat covers and pads. Even with an aftermarket seat, these ideas can help you be even more comfortable on your next motorcycle adventure.

One of your best thumbnail photos by far!
Thank You!!
You are a riot. Half my size and you think you're an expert on the sore ass. Ha! I laugh in your general direction. I love your channel. Thanks for the effort!
I've got no padding, that's why my bony butt is sore! Glad you like the videos and I hope you keep watching!
This might sound a little weird, but I'm a hairy dude. Every Spring I trim up the backs of my thighs and my butt ... anything that contacts the motorcycle saddle. It's amazing how much better it feels to not have your hair being tugged on by friction all day. It's one of the best ideas I ever came up with and I have successfully been doing this for years.
In addition to that, liberal amounts of cornstarch powder keeps my nether regions cool and dry.
I also gave up the whitey tightey's long ago and now go with a good quality boxer brief, without any seams between me and the saddle.
I never tried the bicycle shorts, but they seem like a pretty good idea.
One last thing in my comfy butt arsenal is a wooden bead seat cover. On long tours, I like to attach it to the seat about halfway through each day to change things up. You kind of roll around on those beads and it sort of gives you a butt massage. Cab drivers swear by these things.
Ride far .... stay safe !
I’m not so hairy so thankfully I don’t have to worry about that. +1 on good briefs, and make sure they’re not cotton.
The curse of those Neanderthal genes - hairy butts!!! 😂👍
hahahahah
Incredible, CZcams censored my comment! 🤯 I must have offended a Neanderthal. 🤣
Over fifty years of riding (far) has taught me that my butt isn’t someone else’s butt. The seat that works for me (rock hard) is torture for those who like soft ‘n cozy. The hardest thing I learned how to do is to pause and stretch BEFORE something hurts.
That's the key. Not only hard to learn, but hard to remember... especially on a great road or when you're trying to make time.
I like a long, flat seat, like you get on dual sports, old school standards and adventure bikes. Because you can adjust your position front to back and side to side. The worst are dished seats, like on cruisers, which keep your butt locked in one place. Not only does the back of the seat eventually start to hurt my tailbone, but being stuck in a single position for hours leads to cramping and numbness in my legs and back. In my experience the bikes that look most comfortable are often the least comfortable, and vice versa. Give me a sheepskin cover over a nice flat seat and I can ride all day with a smile on my face.
you're right about that. I actually sometimes sit on the passenger seat on my bike, even though it's stepped up. I just stretch out my arms and back and can get my butt on the back seat for 10 minutes or so and it relieves all the tension.
Bicycle underwear scene - LOL!
Just trying to share my tips!
@@mustachemoto Let me be the first to say thanks for censoring your tip.
hahahahah
@@Sasquatch_by_Day-nv3yh exactly! 😅😂🤣
My next new bike will have comfort at the top of my list. I’m finally done with hard, uncomfortable, motorcycle seats after 30+ years of cursing manufacturers! Thanks for all the good tips.👍
You bet... what are you thinking about getting? I've been riding 30 years too and the BMW is the most comfortable bike I've ridden.
@@mustachemoto I’m downing sizing to the CF Moto 450mt - two of my superbikes are going to someone much younger than me and I’ll keep my one classic, so back to two bikes in my workshop. When I sat on the 450mt it felt like sinking into my favourite armchair, super comfortable, perfect seat height, feet flat, bars just right and manageable weight.😁
Nice! I'd love to ride one. I've got the R1250GSA and an old DR650. Basically both extremes of the adventure class! Both bikes are a ton of fun, but have totally different riding experiences.
Wow, that took balls
hahaha... without the mustache bubble it certainly would have!
100% agree on the mesh seat cover!!
it really is awesome for the price!
Yep, I have the mesh on all my seats. It seems to be the only thing that works for me aside from constantly moving about.
Standing up really makes such a huge difference. I've had 6-8 hour days that were more comfortable than some 3-4 hour days because the 3-4 hour days were all highway and too fast to stand up while the 6-8 hour days had enough low speed stuff that I was able to stand up and move around.
100% I've found that if you move around in the seat when riding twisties, it makes a huge difference too.
I am laughing pretty good at the last part of your video. Hilarious. Nicely done! On point, as an avid bicyclist, 90% gravel roads, I wear padded bike shorts all the time. It never dawned on me to wear them on my motorcycle. I've only worn loose shorts over the padded bike shorts (no way I would ever expose the world to my tightly-clothed intimates), so maybe I will have to give this a try with some riding pants. Good call. Now I feel dumb.
Glad you liked my humor, and now you've got another use for those bike shorts!
I find the padded shorts get annoying after 10 hours in the saddle, I just go with regular spandex shorts under my riding pants. I haven't worn anything but riding pants over spandex for any rides over 1 hour for 20+ years now, really makes a difference. And never wear jeans, the seams from the back pockets are comfort killers.
Just wrapped a 2500 mile road trip yesterday, I do all of these, but riding through the heat just makes ya sweat down there. Then it becomes a game of what position hurts the lleast.
The airflow seat cover helps with that… and make sure you’re not wearing cotton undies!
The 3D mesh is the best invention ... it's relief pressure points and the saver in hot climate ... does the mustache below matches 🤣🤣
hahaaha
Go commando and be sure to use butt butter when you wear cycling shorts or briefs! Trust me on this - no regular underware. ☮
especially no cotton underwear!
Re-task cycling shorts..."chammy" helps things dry... comfortable...
Compression socks !!
I don't know about those off-brand ones, but I bought an Airhawk and it immediately tore at the base of several of the air cells. It was comfortable before that happened, but didn't last more than a few rides. Tried to patch, but the tears are in a crease. It was an early model, I think, so maybe they have it figured out now, thicker rubber might be the key.
I use this one sporadically and it has lasted just fine. I'm guessing if you left it on all the time--especially sitting out in the sun--it probably wouldn't last forever.
Hope you don`t have neighbors close by! lol
hahahah... I do.
Inflatable underwear....hey, there's an idea to patent!
hahahaha
Wasnt expecting that lol
just keeping everyone on their toes!
Great video!!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it… keep watching and I’ll keep posting!
that was awesome!
Thank you!!
Of course the neighbor, or the wife walks in on you filming that ending. LOL! As I was looking over video thumbnails, I had just seen two really clickbait ones that really annoyed me. Your mooning the camera and subject matter just cut to the quick and was such a welcome change, that I had to stop and watch. All solid recommendations.
It would have been their lucky day! Thanks for the compliments, I really hate people who have one point, then draw out their videos just so they can reach 8 minutes and get mid-roll ads. I've been a photojournalist for 30 years, so I try to distill everything down as best I can. Please subscribe and keep watching... I'll keep posting!
What about cycling shorts under your riding pants
Sure… I like the cycling underwear better, but the shorts would work too if they’re more comfortable for you.
Manufacturers please look to improving rider comfort.
100% I get that some bikes are (and should be) totally performance focused, but bikes built for distance and adventure should have a big focus on comfort too.
Personally I prefer the lambskin.
Anyway, on a long boring straight, lean the bike left but yourself right, sitting just on right side of your butt. Hold for a minute, then switch sides. Works for me most of the time.
Good advice. Riding in the twisties doesn't make my butt sore for the exact same reason... I'm moving around in the saddle.
Have you heard of Butt Buffer? I want to get one, but have my seat redone, with it in my seat instead of a gel pad. I definitely could've done without the "debriefing", even though you covered a lot. Ha, ha!
You should do a review on one of them. It uses medical grade technology.
I'll check into that, thanks.
@@mustachemoto,
You're welcome. They have a mesh version, too.
Cheeky!
hahahah perfect comment!
Nice Mustache 😜
Thanks!
I get sore shoulders and back - not arse. Anyone else ?
Bar risers helped me a lot in that department.
There is nothing wrong with being a salesman.
Some viewers may get butt hurt about this video. 😂
hahahahah
I knew a guy, George Soreass, who never found a solution to the pain of riding long distances. His frustration was overwhelming and he eventually gave up riding altogether and turned himself to trying to destroy America. True story...
I think you're confusing your friend George with Donald tRump; that guy's sore ass (or was it bone spurs?) have already gotten us partway to ruin, and he's chomping at the bit to finish the job.
🤣🤣🤣
You are putting wayyyyyyy to much air in your seat pad. Rule of thumb is less is more, it should not raise your seat height more than an quarter of an inch. One or two puffs of air is all it takes.
I’ll give that a shot.
excuse me sir i think your little censorship bubble disappeared a couple frames too early!!! you might want to look into that!!!!!!!!
You had me rechecking my video🤣🤣🤣
@@mustachemoto did you find it?? because i clicked off to another page and it paused the video at a VERY unfortunate time like right before the fade to white had fully completed! im being 100% serious right now
hahaha, yeah, if you pause at JUST the right time. Doesn't bother me, but I put a blur over it so CZcams doesn't flag the video. Thanks for the heads up.
@@mustachemoto you're welcome! i enjoyed the vid, subbed :)
Too much information , at the end !
hahhahahah
DUDE... can you talk anymore? Just get to the point already!
