- The apocalypse is looking brand spanking new thanks to the latest update to Fallout 4. With fixes, improvements, and new adventures to experience, it’s a meaty upgrade. Here are the biggest changes this next gen patch is bringing to Fallout 4.
Included in these changes are new 4k graphics and "up to 60fps" performance modes for PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, wide and ultrawide support for pc, and new questlines, equipment, power armor, and stability improvements for all versions, including PS4 and Xbox One. Not gonna lie, the "ultrawide support" being just a stretched out screen is the biggest slap in the face Bethesda could have ever given to the modding community.
They've been doing that stuff without halfassing it since the Morrowind days, and Bethesda doesn't even bother about doing it correctly in 2024.
Should have invested those resources in making TES6 worth playing instead.

If you look closely, it's not just the UI that seems stretched. To me, the whole picture just seems stretched. Bethesda has once again bitten off more than it can chew. That's not real ultrawide support...

Look at the text UI of the widescreen support too, they just stretched out the resolution instead of properly scaling it and called it a day💀
No 144hz support without modding either.

Downtown it sometimes lags on ps5 but it's fine. The rest of the map runs smoothly. Weirdly my game has English words mixed in even though my language is set to german.

They didn't optimize the buildings, and never will; so only the best hardware can slug through it
Do not expect over 60 FPS because the game's engine completely shits itself at higher framerates. The game ties physics to the framerate.

"The apocalypse is looking brand-spanking new." Lmao it looks exactly the same. This "NeXt gEn" update didn't do anything for PC players whatsoever and merely enabled higher resolutions and maybe some framerate improvements on console. I'd take Fallout London over this any day.
I've read that the PC version can't even go over 60fps now as well, when it used to just fine before the update. If that's true then it's a downgrade
The XBox version is currently broken. It appears that Performance Mode never toggles off (running PC Medium Settings). So it runs at the same lower settings at 60 fps regardless of the toggle. PS5 runs Quality Mode at 30 fps but at the expected PC Ultra Settings and looks notably better. An easy test for this was to switch modes on each console out in the open world. You can easily see distant vegitation and textures clearly on PS5 Quality Mode, and they are removed in the lower setting Performance Mode (among other things). On XBox this level of detail is removed in both modes, and it appears XBox Quality Mode is currently not working. Hopefully this can be corrected shortly. But just an fyi.

It was fixed for me at least. My assaltron DLC crashed on startup before the update and now it works. (ps4)

hope this fixes the silver sheen texture, on certain weapons not coming in. for example the 10mm handgun looks way darker as if its rusty compared to how it looks regularly. its supposed to he somewhay shiny, never knew how to fix it.

They removed the game launcher on pc so now you can't change graphics or resolution to help get better performance or use FSR on steam deck. So now the steam deck runs the game worse than before 😐
Steam launched the game launcher for me a couple hours ago. It’s not removed.
You can manually enable the launcher with a launch command. Though, this shouldn't be necessary lol

@@J_PIK He is talking about the launcher on the Steam Deck. It got removed and there is no way of changing the graphics unless you run the necessary command. Bethesda is just plain lazy.

They could've updated the textures and 3d models like CDPR did for The Witcher 3. Basically all Bethesda did was go in and raise the graphics settings then called it a day. This also means it brings nothing new to the table if you are on PC.

@@TickleTheTip No, Mods desactivate achievement. It should be a Vanilla fix. There is A LOT of bugs and problem with our modern Pc. It was a lot smoother with my old Pc than my I9 13900kf and 4090.

Most mods will be broken/not working. So it’s best to make a new game, sadly without mods atm.
There is a Transfer Saves in my PS5 version in the main menu.

It's a mission, start by listening to the radio for a signal.

And if you’re trying to load an older save with mods the wait time will be 3 to 5 business days
standard console generations are usually 6-8 years and due to the strength of modern consoles like the ps5 itll likely be a bit longer so odds are we arent even halfway through the gen, not to mention ps5s and series x arent the standard that people have still and alot of folks still only have ps4 or xbox one so its still fair to consider ps5 next gen
they should have at least reworked the textures lazy update.

A 9 year old game finally supposedly getting fixed and patched and advertised by sycophants as an free next gen update is sad. Bethesda does not deserve to be rewarded for minimum effort, the game was in a terrible state without mods for a long time for alot of players.
