bro it was all a scam. orchestrated by the west. look around both people are the same culturally, ethnically etc.. divide and conquer. Both counties are stronger together than apart. it's easy to sell them weapons, loot their resources control their governments with "aid".
if the Ethiopian leader really wanted to peruse Eretria he would've succeeded but he only fought for some petty disputed borders instead. wake up.

Ogaden is just a divided Somali tribe in an almost desert area! Eritrea is mostly mountainous and ideal for guerilla warfare unlike the Ogaden. Plus, if all the Somalis in eastern ethiopia were united they atleast stand a chance of winning but they're not even united enough to wage a serious battle inside ethiopia.

The problem with Eritreans is that they can not think two step further. What are you going to do with the two largest ports with only 6 million people? You know what they did after independence, they shut the port because its operational cost was just to much for a nation of 6million people. They used to have oil refineries but that is also shut down. knowing that they are small nation, every country tried to bully it to making consestion with their deman. The yemans took their island. After noticing that economy was hard without ethiopia and everyone is getting in its affares, they demanded to create their own money and peg it to the Ethiopian birr and wanted to have a free trade with ethiopia. That is stupid why would Ethiopia allow nakfa to be peg to birr and leave the Eritrean to print as much money as it wants. Since Ethiopia said no and it is hard to support a standing army forever, they would go to Ethiopian territory and recruit and steal from the Ethiopians. Now Eritrea is a hell. No democracy not justice, constant torture, and never ending conscription. Independence is a nice and dreamy subject but the devil is in the detail and the geopolitics after it. EPLF thought Ethiopia needed them more than it needed ethiopia. With little to no natural resource or vast agricultural land how can a country of 6 million people in the middle east and Africa do. The best option for security would be to join ethiopian federation and let the people focus on business and living a happy life instead of military service. I don't know if Ethiopia would say yes because they already got a secure port through djbouti and would be reluctant to spend money on Eritrea because there will always be the likely hood another conflict.

You are serious and actually thought about it, which is why it was entertaining for me to read. allow me to reciprocate. The logic and solution you presented in the comment can be likened to a sea captain commanding a train on the sea. illogical right. FYI: Nakfa was pegged against the dollar not birr. That's why Meles got upset when he was told he had to pay in dollars instead of birr for use of the ports, which compelled him to start the war to take Assab. He promised you guys Assab right? We made him break the promise on the battle field. We are not sorry we made him break his promise. He got his Ethiopian people killed and eventually he ended up paying Djibouti in Dollars. We moved on to minning gold , while we gave license to companies to explore black gold in the red sea and renovating the refinary. Meles didn't have the foresight, every policy his group took was short term. He wanted to settle score. Score was settled. Here we are; his group dismanted and he is dead. This is a marathon not a sprint. Eritreans can teach you about working in silence, stealth and endurance OR you can just go back to blissful ingnorance. That might be easy to process than your simplified view of the HOA geopolitics between Eritrea & Ethiopia.
