Ortiz, the absolute definition of "clutch". Every postseason when the Sox needed a big hit with Papi at the plate he'd come through damn near every single time.
Ortiz, THEN MENTIONED Tom Brady, Celtic Paul Pierce (who played his final game as a Celtic that year), Bruin Patrice Bergeron made 2 clutch post season goals that helped the Bruins get to their 2nd Stanley Cup finals in 3 years!!!! 2013 was a BIG YEAR FOR BOSTON/NEW ENGLAND SPORTS!!! AND FOR THEIR CLUTCH PLAYERS!!!!
WHAT Tom Brady did earlier in Foxboro that evening and David Ortiz did in the 8th/Sox in the 9th! Oct 13, 2013 was a BIG GREAT NIGHT IN BOSTON/NEW ENGLAND SPORTS HISTORY!!!!
I am not a Red Sox fan, but as long as they’re not playing the Orioles, I will root for them because my sister and her husband are huge Red Sox fans and I remember this game. I remember watching it and Ortiz hitting that home run, that Grand slam and I was so happy because I knew my sister was happy and then they won it in the ninth! Man o man! ❤
2023 still watchin this and still gives me chills and i was there when all that happen me and my dad was about to go till we heard a ball bein hit for a runner a on 2nd that’s when we turned back and watched it all and i went to sleep happy that night
Ortiz cracks it out on the first pitch and rounds the bases so routinely, Fenway barely even had a chance to process the pandemonium. I love the briefest of shots as he rounds first and the crowd is going fucking mental. And then he's so in the zone as he daps his teammates like it's another day at the office.
10 year ago today. Where does the time go. Other than '04, this is my favorite Red Sox season ever. They had no business winning this series. So many guys got so many huge hits that postseason, none bigger than Ortiz's. There is no greater clutch hitter in baseball history than Big Papi. #GOAT #BostonStrong
I can forget the 2011 ALCS, hell I can sort of forget the 2012 WS, but THIS ALCS will forever torture me, especially since my roommate is a Boston fan...

While Big Papi's 2004 clutch heroics are legendary, especially against the Yankees, I think this slam was THE biggest hit of his career. Remember, when Papi got his gw HRs in '04, the games were still tied. Here, the Sox were down by 4. If he doesn't hit the slam, it's very likely the Tigers go back to the World Series. Also, give kudos to Ellsbury and Pedroia in the 8th. If they don't get on base, Ortiz doesn't even get the chance to tie the game. And yes, when Ortiz hit it out, EVERYONE was ecstatic--save for the Tigers--including the Security Guard and even Joe Buck. We rarely see any emotion out of Buck.
In my opinion as a Tiger fan this was the slam that sent us into a rebuild... It hurts but what can you do about it. The Red Sox and David Ortiz were just incredible that year.
The best part about it middlebrooks showed up in that postseason and the trades before by Epstein to get peavy and the way he molded Brandon workman to be in triple a 85% if the season and to show up in the postseason!! He was young and he did it again in 2018 I believe. Love my Sox man
I can see that argument. It kind of symbolized the bullpen issues that plagued them for years. But yeah that single swing seemed like it just killed the tigers spirit. Ironically enough, it was Dumbrowski who won a title in Boston 5 years later lol
@@Andy_Babb Well that red sox lineup was also really good that year too. Not only you guys had ortiz, but you guys had victorino, mike napoli, Pedroia and among others. The tigers pitching staff was deeper than the red sox that is for certain.
Victory I was like 1-22 wasn’t he? Until he hit the grand slam? His walk up song was three little birds by bob marley . Lol he stopped switch hitting and just went up righty cause he was doing that bad
@@raystinkle4652no I'm a tigers fan and I was crushed beyond belief after this ALCS. The Red Sox won it fair and square. They were the stronger team and had a stronger bullpen and offense. Meanwhile the tigers offense went cold and our bullpen was flawed. I don't care or like the Boston Red Sox but I'll respect it when they win.
This might not be the best sox team of all time, but this is the best chip of all time....they had no business beating this tigers team but they got it done.....
Given how Ortiz never really managed to get a hit off on Benoit before, they were confident they could strike em out or manage to get him to hit something flimsy for an easy out
"the based are loaded, a postseason hero of years past, big papi coming up"...still gives me chills 8 years later
yeah same great feeling and came here after watching TB12 pulled up that comeback win over the Saints!
Which is why the Tigers 🐅 should have won.

Boston strong good memories even though I'm a packers fan not patriots lol
John, are you from Boston? 😏
And, are there lots of Nguyen there?
There are so many cool people in Seattle named Nguyen and I think from Viët Nâm?
2013は、ボストンの奇跡‼️
I couldn’t agree more
BOSTON STRONG!
What did Brady do?
Joe Buck: “5-1 game, Bases loaded, two out….”
WHACK - “TIE GAME! - Big Papi, the grand slam!”
Still gives me goosebumps 10 years later 🙌🏻
David "Big Papi" Ortiz was one of my favorite players of all times

But I don't like him because he was good #youareabandwagon

What a way for the Tigers bullpen to spoil Max Scherzer's incredible 7 inning performance
Dude they spoiled almost every starter’s performance it was aggravating.
by no means am i a red sox fan but i still get chills watching this big papi is the most clutch post season hitter I have ever seen
Joaquin Benoit really came in, threw one pitch to Ortiz and blew a 4 run lead

Your guy pitched lights out in game 1 so coming back was big or I don't know if the Sox had a chance.
My lowest point as a tigers fan is 2017-Present!
that big papi hit is one for the history books
2:19:21 so clutch. I get chills watching this man.
And did it with just one pitch💙🐢
As a life long Red Sox Fan!! This is my most favorite game in Sox playoff history that didn’t involve a World Series!
My 2 favorite teams going at. I remember watching this live. Can’t believe the tigers didn’t win it all with the lineup and starting rotation they had
bullpen problems
Thx for video 😊, I've been looking/waiting for video for awhile, now finally! 🙏🎄
How bout the catch by the bullpen catcher? He didn't even get out of his squat.

I gotta hand it to Joe Buck on his call of Big Papi’s grand slam. Best I can remember him calling after years of meh
Would have loved to be at this game in 2013
One of the most surreal baseball moments I can remember
Was overseas 10 years ago and could only refresh the scoreboard on my phone… highlights are great but nothing like watching the build up
The Tigers were so good. They never invested in a bullpen and it shows.
Champions invest in great bullpens. Starters could get you there but without a great bullpen your screwed. This game showed it!!!
A great game!!!!
Big Papi hit a Grand Slam off a "Closer" who couldn't even close a door if he was freezing.

yeah this one broke my heart
Naw not for me I love it 😂

why on earth did the tigers not keep Quinten Berry around. we saw you buddy. we saw you

1:52:20 - 2:07:42
2:07:55 - 2:25:43
2:25:59 - 2:41:33
2:24:11 seeing how concerned Red Sox players are checking up on Tori Hunter is why I love baseball.
1:30:55 mark Tigers scored there last runs in the game.
2:36:26 behind on the count 3-1 that’s a BASE HIT! RED SOX WIN IT! THIS SERIES TIED AT A GAME APIECE!
2:19:27 the grand slam by David Ortiz
Farrell damn near blew it leaving Bucky in so long.
So at 2:31:30, why is he allowed to walk, the ball gets away, shouldn't he run?
Boston such a lucky ass team ever since they won in 04. Everything goes their way in the postseason
