- This week, we look at Network 18’s Independence Day special programme that tracked the history of India through the speeches of its prime ministers from 1947 to 2022. In a one-hour show, the host, #AnupamKher, spent about seven minutes on #JawaharlalNehru and 15 minutes or so on Narendra Modi. No prizes for guessing who won the best PM race. Kher told his viewers how Nehru’s speeches lacked data and detail, how he insulted Indians by calling them lazy, how he had no clue about handling the problem of hunger and starvation in Independent India, and, of course, how he didn’t pay his tributes to soldiers who died in the China war. Cut to Modi, and the viewer was told how inspiring and great the dear leader has been.
Since Kher didn’t bother to dissect Modi’s speeches, we did. From the Red Fort this week, Modi spoke of women’s safety. The same day, 11 men jailed for life for gangraping #BilkisBano and killing her 3-year-old daughter during the 2002 communal carnage in Gujarat were granted early release and greeted with sweets. Did this grave injustice to Bilkis make it to primetime debates on TV news channels? From Monday to Thursday, we watched some star women anchors and their popular debate shows and found that there were no hashtags or calls for justice for Bilkis.

Nehru shaped India. He gave us an identity. We will never have a PM like him again. It was a time when everyone expected India to fail spectacularly as a secular, democratic country. In the same interview, the bbc asked Mr. Prime Minister why you or your country is not very bitter towards Britain. Mr Nehru said that that is partly because of our nature and we donot stay angry for too long or too intensely, but it is largely because of the values instilled in us by Mr. Gandhi. Remeber, Gandhiji and pt. Nehru used to have vehement disagreements.

Right Wing Hindu Nationalism is at a rise in India so that's why a lot of actors are turning right wing. Even Vivek Singh Agnihotri was a hardcore Atheist and made fun of hindu gods but now He's loved by Hindus. A lot of people hop in this bandwagon to avoid being cancelled.

Indian army is not compraised of angels from heaven, nor any army. Ask any Srilankan Tamils and Kashmir Muslims. They will tell you how many rapes were committed by Indian army personnel.
Mizo mothers even to this day discipline their children by saying if you don't behave properly I will hand you over to Indian army. This highlights the amount of respect Indian army earned among the Mizoram people.
