The Sopranos is such a brilliantly written, directed and acted show, that on a 5th rewatch, you can still pick up certain new things you never paid attention too. It's like a gigantic painting, so many storylines in it, so many details and it logically all comes together in a big picture. I can not stress enough how much of a masterpiece the Sopranos is.

@@clonezy7800 Lmao how does that even make sense.
Also I haven't even seen the show yet so idk.
I love how every scene in the Sopranos is a metaphor for how Phil spent 20 years in the can. Bravo Vince.
It’s crazy how Don is obviously the best person of these three since he isn’t a violent murderer. But I feel as though he might have been the worst father of the 3. Or he cares the least for them. Tony and Walter just can’t figure it out while Don can’t bother to figure it out.
A murderer takes a couple of lives but a psycho businessman ruins thousands of lives
@@miquelr2353boo hoo
@@ICar-co2kx okay?
@@na6733 How tf was Walt a great father lmao?
He ruined his childrens lives
I lobby for a Dr. Bender video every month. Educational and highly entertaining as well. Group therapy! 👌🏻
Every week. Every day. Instead of the celeb ones.
I'd love an analysis of Jesse too, such a complicated character, his 'Problem Dog' monologue really shows this.
Dr. Bender the GOAT of GQ breakdown videos
11:30 I had no idea that the origins of Mad Men were inspired by one of the most notorious Simpsons episodes ever, “The Principal and the Pauper”.
Just seeing those Mad Men scenes makes me want to start my yearly rewatch early.
Please do more of these, there's always more to break down, especially the new hit series The Boys, I can't wait for Dr. Eric Bender to break down Homelander who is a definitely a malignant narcissist at best
This guy is incredibly informative. Love his breakdowns
the stanford prison experiment is widely known to have bias and failed methods; it was more a result of the particular type of people they put in a particular type of situation with lots of outside manipulation. humans are certainly malleable, but not innately cruel.
Indeed. The folks conducting the study had a great deal of influence over how the "guards" treated the "prisoners". Terrible study to be upholding as support for real world human behavior.
Not based on my experience over the last 36 years…. People are selfish, greedy, and will absolutely screw over their own grandmother if it meant they could get something they wanted.
There's literally nothing about it that suggests humans are "innately cruel" prisoner and guard is an inherently adversarial relationship.
This video is gold. 2 of my favorite shows’ protagonists analyzed.
Three of my all-time favorite shows and my favorite male lead Don Draper? YES.
Don is SUCH a fascinating character. I love how such a manipulative person ends up working in ads, literally getting paid to get better at tricking others.
@@ethanwebb5334the finale is also incredibly fitting and mysterious.
Oh, yes! Dr. Bender is the best and my favorite specialist to break down clips of characters in TV and film. Also, this video wasn't long enough. lol.
Villains in Breaking Bad are multi-dimensional. This is a great analysis overall.
Woah, didn't know they had multiverse in Breaking Bad too.
@@MamadNobarithere's a universe where Walt is a family guy with a weird kid called Malcolm
@@emudekoalso one where Fring fights armored guys with a glowing sword in spaceships
I honestly thought they were pretty one dimension
Tony Soprano and Walter White - two greatest and most influential tv main characters
This guy looks like both of the Russo brothers combined
XD
Lmfaooo sooo true
He’s “The Russo Brother”
I can see it
Oh nooo😅
I’d like to see him react to the different villains of the walking dead, particularly Negan. Seeing his take on their villains (the governor, Negan, alpha and beta, and Pamela) would be very interesting
oh i love this! More of this, please?
without tony soprano thered be no walter white
‘Carousel’ is top five TV episodes of all time.
We need even more!!
Tony Soprano Is the best character in the history of televison
He's second to Walter White imo.
Omar Little
It disturbs me how many people seem to find Tony relatable or admirable.
@@jliller It's easy to feel that way though, like he has these sort of "normal guy" problems and emotions, but that's the brilliance of the show, because ultimately, it's a just a smoke screen for a guy who does harm because he chooses to. (More detail my other comment above.)
Great video, doc! But I think you might be confusing Gus and Gale at 5:10
Hey @GQ Dr. Bender should do a video analyzing k-dramas they have a long list of shows with characters who have mental illness our personality disorders it would be very interesting to see that.
I'd be curious to see his opinions on Lester Nygaard, Lou Solverson, and Ray Stussy. Oh, and of course, Ignacio Varga, lol. All very complex anti-heroes, even Lou who's moral compass is as straight forward as you can get.
Lester and ignacio varga were evil not antiheroes
@@afrosamourai400In what way was Nacho evil?

Lester wasn't evil, he just snapped. Plus, I think the writers tried to redeem him by having him attack Malvo after the elevator killings.
I need to know what that silver, chromed head with the glasses thingy on the table is. A pen holder or something?
We need a Bojack Horseman break down
When the title said Anti Heroes I was hoping one of the characters was going to be the Punisher.
Genius, loved this❤
What’s the chances there’s going to another follow up to this series? I would like to suggest the Seinfeld characters if possible
YES! MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!
Vic Mackey should be a part of this discussion also.
I personally believe that Walter was always like that he just finally had an excuse to let it all out
I think what he means is Walt starts with the traits of a malignant narcissist and acquires the other traits of a sociopath as the show progresses. Mostly by feeding into it.
@@futurestorytellercovert narcissist
I would really like him to talk about deadpool to hear what he has to say about him.
Yes!!!!
i want to see one of these about Ray Donovan
Dr Bender has a CZcams channel now!
I think breaking bad is the sopranos of this generation. This eternal being in tv/media that will never not be mention in the best tv show of all time.
DO HOMELANDER
I always figured the stamphord prison experiment wasn't considering legitimate anymore. Its really weird hearing someone nowadays referencing it as a credible source.
It's not a legitimate experiment at all and him citing it makes me seriously doubt his qualifications
Somehow the new glasses make him look a lot more indimidating hahaha
he really needs to do the movie detachment
I know this might come off as mean but could you be considered narcissistic? Also, can these types of people ever change or like grow out of these afflictions? I kind of worry that sometimes I have these types of traits.
You can have narcissistic traits and not be a diagnosed narcissist. You can change if you’re a narcissist because it’s learned behavior/defense mechanism. Sometimes people get mixed up with psychopaths/sociopaths and narcissists.
If you fear you might be narcissistic and sociopathic you should try and recieve professional help. However it is also possible you may be afflicted with OCD where you convince yourself you're a bad person with these maladaptive traits. Given your concern you might need to talk to someone about this ❤
I’ll be back - Chamber
Eric pls make videos again
5:06 It was gale botteicher not gus
thanks for explaining my dad
Love this psychiatrist!
Breaking Bad is the Casablanca of television. It stands over all, and I don’t think anything will surpass it in my life.
I love Dr bender

THEY BROUGHT HIM BACKKK!! LETS GOO!!
Bro unrionically said 'this is the exact moment walt became heisenberg'
6:18 but was not the zambo prison experiment rigged ?
Can you analyze movie and tv characters with schizoid personality disorder?
Clay morrow & tony soprano
Hate when people bring up the prison experiment like it wasn’t littered with issues that render it basically unusable for anything. The participants were prompted/coached, it wasn’t completely organic or spontaneous.
Zimbardo was an unethical monster, it's absolutely unacceptable that his license was never reprimanded.
Goes to the doctor Psychiatrist. Do you have a cast head of yourself? 1:20
5:03 Gale not Gus
hey look, the scarecrow is back
To me Deadpool is the best example of a anti hero, such a hard life before the experiments. Truly a show of only doing things that push Im to keep going with no care of others.
The Zimbardo Experiment
It’s CHAMBER
BoJack Horseman would be a nice subject of study
Chamber
No James Bond? 😳
Hahaha, Doctor Bender
The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle
this guy has the hands of hercules
I disliked WW straight away. Understood WHY Skyler didn't leave but kept hoping she would.
I never thought of Tony Soprano as an "anti-hero" - he was the protagonist of the story, but a VILLAIN.
Time and time again, he goes through his personal problems and you might relate to that and feel sorry for him, and blame his upbringing, but in the end, he is just going to show his villainous true colours. He'll harm people to get ahead, he'll harm people to get out of trouble, and he'll even harm people just because he feels emotionally bruised and wants to make himself feel better by making someone else feel worse.
The funny thing about Walt having those traits before he even became Heisenberg is that he actually breaks up with his ex partner (Gretchen) before the events of the first episode because of how jealous he is that her family is wealthy.
I would just call Walter White a villain or maybe a tragic villain(if I was being generous)-pretty much after he lets Jane choke, you are watching with grim fascination, rather than "rooting for him".
What about House??
How is Dexter not on this list?????
he should breakdown the office and barry
I strongly second the vote for a Barry breakdown! That would be excellent.
We need to undertand: Walter was always that egomaniacal and insecure monster who cared for nothing but his own ego and sense of self , he just took away the restraints
Raymond Reddington.... please!?! I know he's a fictional character.
It's funny how redeemable Walter White makes Tony Soprano look, lol.
Heisenberg ❤❤❤!!
You get a sneak peek of Heisenberg in the first episode of Breaking Bad when Walt attacks the bullies who are making fun of Walt jr.! It shows his capacity for doling out his own justice! xoxo
Beating up bullies is anti-hero behavior, but it's not the narcissistic sociopathy Walt displays later. It does hint at rage within.
Walter White isnt an antihero hes straight up a villain. What heroic things did he do, that didn't involve self-serving or cleaning up the evil hes done because he can't live with the shame.
Interesting, well written and enjoyable.
But I wouldn't let him near any of ny loved ones ever.
Why the mark Robert background music?
Why Not?
This guy is great
Badly? Maybe you mean baldy 😂
Calling Walter White and Tony Soprano Anti-Heroes is kind of laughable. They’re straight up Villain Protagonists.
Not sure i agree anti heroes posess the dark triad. Batman? Soprano isnt an anti hero but a villain.
The choice of glasses with that nose is really something
6:20 The stanford prison experiment has been debunked more times than not. He lost a lot of credibility with that reference.
I like him 😊😊😊😊
Love seeing this guy but can you get some new experts in different fields for the breakdowns? half of all these videos over the past year has been this topic
Bruh they shoulda shown Eren
Gabagool 🍖🍖👀
So psychiatrist can generally predict human future, quite surely
Why does this dude look like a superhero’s secret identity?
anyone who thinks Walter White is an "Anti-Hero" and NOT a villain is the one who needs psychiatric help.
I really hope this mf actually has watched all these shows and movies and know them this well and there isn’t a bunch of staff explaining to him the scenarios.
If you watch some of his other videos it's pretty obvious he doesn't watch everything.
of course he doesn't its all scripted
Who cares?
All it takes is one really bad day to change someone
Sopranos - humanizing a demon
Breaking Bad - demonizing a human
Guy looks like a serial killer
