    My B9 came in this Monday, replaced my LGC1. And honestly, I love it. No it is not OLED black levesl. To my eye (maybe i need glasses) the B9 does so much more right that having perfect blacks isnt end all be all, watched, mario, witcher ep1, new star wars show, 1st episode of house of usher(very dark show) and it all looked damn good. Settings used; dolby bright, and dark, or cinema mode when Dolby not supported.

      I watched Spiderman Homecoming on my brother's C2 or C3 the other day (4K blu-ray version). And while the image did have some advantages over my own much older Sony ZF9 LED TV, I feel like the picture actually looked more natural on my own TV when I checked out a few scenes. Also the brightness of my TV is just incomparable. The bright effects have a really nice impact, his OLED simply doesn't compare in that regard (that said, that's probably not the case for a few top-end OLEDs that can reach 1500-2000 nits peaks).
      But yeah, the top-end LEDs do have some pretty major advantages, but OLED fanboys and professional reviewers pretend that they don't exist or that they're minor.

      @sermerlin1 Před 8 dny

      wtf. Why would you not stick with A95L? Why would you even be considering new TV in less then 5 years at least since it's oled. If it was LED i'd not consider anything until 10 years go by.
      I bought sony X90F at launch and was not considering anything at all before this year and I got kinda "lucky" in a sense that X90F had some panel fault (when not in use for more then a day it would go through rainbow colors of various shapes before it started working properly), and RMAd it the fifth year of warranty and in its stead they gave me X90J (was hoping for X95J as it is the same price range as X90F was when I bought it and when X95J launched...) but I expected to last 8 years with X90F, so I got like 2 more years before I consider anything but am keeping in touch to see what's coming up so that when I get something it's gonna be as huge of an upgrade as X90F was.
      So yeah why would you even think about replacing that A95L in less then 5 years (unless you wear it down and it starts showing perma burn in)? :D

I need a new Receiver anyway as mines Arc not eArc. I actually lost Atmos by buying this TV as my Yamaha won’t do DD+ thru Arc? Great video! I love my A80K. Honestly it’s almost same as A80L without Clear. 👍🏻

    • @paulcox2447
      @paulcox2447 Před 9 dny

      I would not. The only people who think having your screen act as a speaker is hi-fi are TV fans. Excitation devices have been a thing for a long time and they aren't a great solution. Your center channel is better than the TV will be. Check out Erins audio corner if you want to learn a bit about center channels and what works best. You could potentially get a different center, but I wouldn't call any TV speakers an upgrade from a good dedicated center channel.

    Don't forget to always show the settings and do a reset as well. I assume it's professional mode. Where you able to get another mode on the Bravia 9 calibrated to be accurate? What does the Bravia 9 look like vs the 3110 in non-professional mode. Is it off by a mile?
    You can reduce the text it take up 1 3rd of the screen, and covers the 3110 , why is it so huge? Quite annoying with the text covering the display.

  • @Swecan76
    @Swecan76 Před 19 dny +1

    2:03:26 Sony themselves has said they allow blooming to creep into the black bar if the content would be affected otherwise. They said they do not want to dim and have a sharp cut-off with the black bar because it's an absolute straight line. . They do not want to dim that content and interfere with creators intent. So on some occasions it can happen. It can be hard to see but if up close a slight glow might appear. Sometime could be slightly visible right from where you are viewing. But look at content not the black bars lol.
    They could probably just keep it fully black but then it would affect the content potentially. It can have something to do with slight light bleed. As in even if adjacent zone is fully off if the other zone is fully on, some small light bleed can happen, because the zones are not "walled in" with zero leakage.

  • @Swecan76
    @Swecan76 Před 19 dny +2

    42:00 I thought you said you put the B9 on Local Dimming high. Default in Professional mode is LD at medium so as not to suppress highlights as much. Of course could introduce a little more blooming. You could have tested the star pattern again with LD medium and see if the stars are a little brighter.

      @thenonexistinghero Před 19 dny +1

      It does seem to be an extremely pro-OLED video in general, his bias really is showing through here (not that he's made a secret of it). There simply wasn't much content shown where LED shines, like 90% of the video was showcasing situations where OLED shines while being worst-case scenario for LED.
      That said, I generally disagree with him on many things and he's also simply not correct on quite a few things (OLED does not have infinite contrast for example). Viewing something like how the 'creator intended' is just a load of bull. A movie has hundreds if not thousands of employees working on it for example. Only a very small amount of them end up mastering and tweaking the colours for the final release. The director usually then just gives a okay or not for the final result of what those handful of employees intended to do. And the mastering of the consumer purchasable version is usually also different than the cinema version of movies.
      And then on top of that, every cinema is different. And every TV is also different. The 'cinema' mode doesn't make movies look the way they did in the cinema, the colours aren't even close and even among different high-end TV's their respective 'cinema' modes all have some differences. All in all, it is impossible to view a movie 'as it was intended' because there's no way to do that. It's just a loaded term with no meaning, only meant for marketing. But he seems to put a lot of focus on its importance. Honestly I don't like these 'cinema' modes, I much prefer to tweak settings to my own preference for the image that looks best to me.

      The price was way higher than Canada's prices. Now the USA prices are in line with Canada pricing. It is more likely they over charged at launch. 1:36:00 Sony doesn't use the MediaTek SoC for their image processing. That is what the XR processor is for. Yes that is a separate processor.
    This is why you don't see any 144hz on the B9 even though the Pentonic 1000 have it. Same with HDR10+, the MediaTek have it but Sony doesn't use it. The image processing comes from the XR processor.
    So I wouldn't count on Sony using any image features on a Pentonic 800. It's crude compared to Sony's own. They will use the SoC for OS GoogleTV and inputs and so on.
    Maybe they can use some features and sort of co-process it. But I wouldn't count that. Hisense and TCL definitely used to just put their Image processing right on the MediaTek SoC. But even they have started creating their own co-processors. Hisense will have numerous smaller ones.

    When do we think streaming will even hit 2000 metadata let alone 4000? They have to hold back till the vast majority has tvs capable.. Apps will be able to detect the tvs capability or vice versa and display content at tvs capability.. 1000,2000,4000 etc..I still think 3-5 years however..For now tv can just tone map 1000nit data to higher levels.. 2000,4000 etc..
    Can't have content being blowing out or highlights, details clipping at all. That obviously be unacceptable.
    Im still blown away at how amazing s95c looks with right type of movie. Under Paris on netflix is super bright. Sky and clouds so vibrant and detailed ..and lights under water. 1500-2000ish nits is still crazy good for even bright rooms but at nights can even be too bright. If i playing game with mostly daytime scenes i have to keep contrast at around 30..just too much of a light cannon in dark room. I can see how 4000 nit smallish area would look great however..but not crucial..just would add nice touch to certain scenes.

When mounted really close to the wall, that TV can't ventilate properly and cool itself down. That much trapped heat, over time, will unquestionably shorten the useful life of that device. LG absolutley should have put more thought into the cooling and ventilation on that unit. The fact that they didn't is very concerning.

    No mini LED, QLED, LCD, OLED, QD OLED or any modern panel tech is capable of true reference level image quality. One of the only consumer panels ever made with the capabilities of producing a reference level image, was the very last gen Pioneer Kuro plasmas (101FD). D-Nice still uses his as a reference monitor when calibrating contemporary panels and says It destroys any contemporary panel with SDR material. It has never been matched or surpassed.

      @@j.rfrazier1855 I literally say SDR. Reread my comment and notice it's not edited. I'm happy to talk about HDR though, I think it absolutely sucks. OLED cannot display HDR properly, they have to rely on processing tricks because of severe brightness instability due to ABL and low peak brightness. Compare virtually any of the same content in both SDR versus HDR and what you will notice is that SDR has a higher average luminosity level, meaning the image is brighter most of the time and also more vibrant. The HDR version will be dimmer, less saturated with the occasional high nit specular highlight. I've done countless A/B comparisons and 99% of the time the SDR version of content looks vastly better than its HDR counterpart. At least as far as streaming goes, it's not even close. A lot of people find this counterintuitive which I understand, all you have to do is try it for yourself if you have a device that allows you to disable HDR. There are other factors as well, HDR mastering seems to be pretty awful more often than not. Colorists are still relatively inexperienced working with it not to mention that most HDR content is created from SDR masters. Take all of this into account with the fact that 95% of content is still SDR and will remain SDR for the foreseeable future and I can confidently say that my Kuro wipes the floor with any OLED the vast majority of the time.

    Robert is wrong saying no other TV can do full field brightness like the Bravia 9. The Bravia 9 hits 700-750 full field brightness. There are others at 900. Then you have outdoor "Terrace" TVs that does up to 1500 nits 100% window.

    • @valueelectronics9390
      @valueelectronics9390 Před 19 dny

      The full field brightness nits depends o which screen size BRAVIA 9 we are considering. FOMO has the 65" BRAVIA 9 and I'll double check, but I believe it's over 800 Nits. Other than outdoor full sun TVs what TY do know that can reach 900 Nits full field? @@AnthonySimpson-kl1nt I have not had our calibrator test all three screen sizes, 85", 75", & 65" BRAVIA 9. I do plan on having the measurement taken and recorded. For now they all are very similar, but the difference when you see the beautifully tone map decoded perfectly to deliver more depth and detailed images then we have ever seen before from any TV.
      When you see these new full dynamic tonal range images perfectly contrast controlled with a perfectly illuminated 4K HDR image; sizes made the images look and feel with the larger the high contrast picture has beautifully enhanced immersive experiences that takes your eyes and image perception with a boost at each screen size increase.
      So screen size matters now even more with this new more dynamic image rendering capability that the new BRAVIA 9 QD MiniLED TV delivers. Go for the largest screen size you can fit in your TV location and please don't abuse your budget, and all screen sizes are priced very reasonably for bleeding edge and premium designed and built new digital displays.

    Do people like this kind of overly bright content?
    I don't know - I went to a store with 20-30 OLEDs yesterday and the G4 was in torch mode (Vivid) playing 2 trailers - one with Tom Hanks and the other the Lord of the Rings. I couldn't focus on Tom Hanks due to the brightness of some tiny lamps behind him and the Lord of the Rings looked like a 4k demo, not a show. It was really hard to follow as it was sooooo bright.
    If HDR on the G4 can be so distracting in Vivid mode, how bad would this be? I saw the U8N and even though it was a dark custom demo, it had highlights that were shockingly bright compared to the pure black.
    Some demos looked amazing on the OLEDs but I really think I prefer SDR over HDR as my eyes are obviously going to focus on the bright part of the screen.
