This "fix" lasted less than a year before the battery is no longer enough to keep the date/time. So for me it is time to remove the unit from service and find a more reliable model / mfg. So, I would advise, not to waste your time on this unit, unless you just love it.
I'd wager it might be best to just wire a power bank in between the camera and fuses - benefit is it's easy to replace a power bank in future and if you change dashcams at any point you still have a nice battery backup for other devices. Granted doing this will mean the dash cam will stay on though. Would be nice if it was capable of knowing you were stationary and turn off instead of turning off from lack of power input.
To anyone reading this;
IGNORE THE ADVICE. DISCONNECT THE RIBBON CABLES.

If you follow the advice and leave the little black cable connected, you WILL ABSOLUTELY 100% RIP IT when you go to "pry the motherboard out with the small flathead screwdriver".
I was doing a repair on this for my old man and he was VERY adamant about this review and how "oh nononononono, he said he tried to take 'em off and it messed up something so don't do that" and against ALL of my inner experience, I decided to follow the instructions to the letter. Now he's the proud owner of a VERY expensive British Paperweight.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
To each their own. What worked for me, might not work for you and so on. The one ribbon cable I did remove I could not get re-attached. Shame on NEXTBASE for not standing behind their expensive British Paperweight in the USA.
I have the same issue on a 522GW Nextbase this is a bad design battery should be easy to replace.
just desolder the 3 wires and replace with the other 3, white then black then red, putting tape over the red before you solder it. instead of extending the wires and adding more tape space in there as it is at a premium

373040 Should be the size of the battery, You will need to get confirmation on that though. BPI I believe is the manufacturer.
I bought a battery and it only has 2 wires (red and black) does it fit?
You need the 3 wire version, but in general I no longer suggest wasting time on this POS. My repair only lasted about 6 months.
@@simplereviews2086 So what is the solution? Is there an original battery? I need a normal battery because the camera fakes and doesn't always take pictures
You can try again with the mfg for satisfaction, but unless something has changed, they don't offer batteries for sale to the USA, and wont repair it at any cost. If you are dead set on trying to repair the battery I used 320mAh 3.7V Battery For PHILIPS TAT1285 TWS Earbuds Wireless Charging case (ebay) lasted about 6 months, but I broke charging from the base and GPS functionality. They offered me a 10% coupon to buy a new one at retail with I assume the same issue. No thanks!

Is it possible to leave the ribbon cable connected like you suggested or will it rip out when you pry the motherboard out ?
As the author, unfortunately, I don't know the secret since clearly I broke it. I'm doing a side project on a Raspberry PI 5, and I broke it on that one as well. :(. However, I will say, it does not seem to be worth the effort anymore as my battery stopped working again after a year. I think it is time to toss it out.
Hey, thanks for the vid. Ive managed to replace the battery but also lost the gps/mount charging functions. Do you have any idea how to fix that?
EDIT: I've bought the G2M/GPS PCB (the ribon cable I've accidentally snapped) directly from Nextbase support via email. It was 15 GBP incl. shipping to Czech Rep and the replacement wasn't hard.
Nope I had the same issue (per the video). So for charging, I plug the USB directly into the Nextbase, instead of the window mount. Nextbase Tech Support says it is that little ribbon cable that I pointed out in the video is the probable culprit. So recording video / date / time works, just all the GPS functions like MPH, Location are missing.
@@paulw.downing1755 Hi, just a little update. I've contacted Nextbase support and they've sent me a new one (it was like €30 tho). The replacement was quick - like less than 10 mins. Now the GPS and speed stamps work again.

@@Vinnybhoy Hey, they've sent me only the ribbon cable (G2M/GPS PCB) and I've changed it myself. After that it works fine again. It was 15 GBP (incl. shipping from UK to Czech rep). Hope that helps.
@@KRALIFAK seen a video there guy showing lift the motherboard from opposite side of ribbon cable just enough to solder the battery wires ,this a better idea ? That way no need to disconnect and shouldn't rip out the ribbon

i have the same problem the everybody has with nextbase 622gw
i opened the camera just to make sure what kind of battery do i need since my dashcam is out warranty
so i opened and the battery doesn't look bad or fat or looks its gonna explode
all i did was open it then i closed it and my GPS was gone and it doesn't charge from the mount anymore
then i opened once again and found out the thin wire wich charge the camera from mount was ripe off by him sef i opened carefully theresw no way i did the damage to the wire
so now i use the charging cable direct to the camera and still use the mount but as i said GPS is gone.
i did no even replace the battery but at this point is no worth it.
i think im gonna try vantrue N4 pro .
i don't know how to upload a pic to show what im talking ubout .

Hello, is there a room for a little bigger battery? And what is the size of original battery?
1-1/2 Inch by 1-1/8th inch. No there is no more room, snug fit on original battery. I can't really tell the thickness because my battery was swollen. If I had to guess 1/8th thick. The replacement I used was smaller and loose fitting, but that makes sense since the original was 370mAh
I just got the battery from amazon is 3.7 v. 350amp but it has only 2 wires black and red can u tell if thia gonna work please?
No idea I assume you need a 3 wire
The 3rd wire is the temperature and over current sense you absolutely need this. Don't use a 2 wire battery it will catch fire and you will lose your car. Also a 3 wire battery has the charging circuit built in the 2 wire doesn't
