I love both versions of the song. I'm so proud of my baby Lay. He does such a good job rapping in this version. And recently I think I've become a ChanBaek shipper thanks to one of my friends lol. The manderin one is like talking to Tao, Kris, and Luhan. But the Korean one is saying that they will keep moving forward for the fans even though it hurts
i strongly agree. im Korean. so i can understand what the lyric means well. but when i listen the k version, i feel they talk to exo l but the m version is talking about their mind to their ex members. it could be i cannot understand the m version though

+NCT Forever Lay composed the song, but for the Chinese version, Lay wrote ALL the lyrics, including the rap part. For the Korean version, Chen wrote the lyrics (Lay helped a little too) while Chanyeol wrote the rap.
well the chinese lyrics were written by Lay so yeah maybe he gave a message to the former members.Who knows? ;)
Lay wrote this song for Tao (his only co-chinese member left during that time) but he's not dense and knows that exo-m's makne will also leave sooner or later, making him reminisce about their memories as ot12 and that even though everyone of them doesn't show it, he wants him to know that on the insde they are breaking and are also missing them (luhan and kris).. that's why if Tao really decides to leave.. he will promise that no matter what happen.. the will always be one (note: "we are one EXO")
as for the korean version.. chen and chanyeol helped writing and translating this song.. the difference is that if the chinese version is for the ex-members then the korean one is for the EXO-Ls.. that even if 3 are gone, they would still stay as EXO for us
which explains why Lay may hardly be without EXO most of the time but he's still not "leaving" EXO (note: there's an interview or something with EXO where Lay is on skype.. the girl said "you'll be coming back right?" to him and Lay said "I will come back.. I must come back)..
another explanation is that EXO never is still not replacing the ex-members.. I mean the company can do that even with the trials going on that time but they didn't because in a group like this, there should an agreement with the original members..
also this song is connected to "miracles of december" (note: read the lyrics.. he mentioned the song)
Korean Ver. and Chinese Ver. are all for EXO-L,not for the left members(though a lot of fans still remind of them).2 versions of this song both talking about the hand-in-hand promise with EXO-L after pain and suffer. :) Lay said that at the end of a concert to fans telling them this is a song for EXO-L.

nah, the korean ver. is for EXO-L whilst the mandarin ver. is for the ex-members. Lay said that Promise was for EXO-L at the end of a concert in Korea, where they only sang the korean version. When he wrote his book "standing firm at 24" in 2015, he wrote that the song was for the ex-members :)

no no. i heard that the song was written by Lay but the lyric of song was written by chen. as u know chen is korean. he might write it in Korean. the rap was written by chanyeol. so the all the lyric is made in Korean first. then it might be translated to Chinese. give contribution to right person!!!
