I don't know if you noticed, but the actor who plays Ozai voiced Hiroshi Sato in Korra.
React to Kipo, Amphibia, or Young Justice.
I think momo looks most like a Siamese cat
One thing that is consistent in all Avatar media is Kyoshi being an absolute beast.
When I first saw kyoshi take over ang my first thought was, "Ho crap shits about to get real, and the fire nation are screwed."
Facts
thank god she wasn't in the movie we shall not name
@@itsnotrael what movie lol
@@user-jk6fn6sj3y There is no movie inside the walls here we are safe here we are free.
So we're getting 2 episodes a week? Oh, hell yes! Also, I love this version of Kyoshi. She has such a commanding presence, towers over everyone, and the fight was so cool.
That means that we'll have new videos every day of the week as they release this show.
Me:
'Huh, this is different.'
'Holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit holy shit!!!'
Last episode they said they're just gonna upload it whenever so it might be irregular
Ripping off a bandage hurts less when it's quick.
Kyoshi knew about the northern assault because "Time is an illusion, and so are pants".
Ooohhhhhh.....
the actress playing Avatar Keoshi in this episode portrayed her perfectly, especially with the costume design and warrior makeup
Portraiting Kyoshi like the actress did... was pure perfection. She really captured the rigid and harsh demeanor Kyoshi was known for, a reflection of the era she grew up on, completely dedicated to the duties of the Avatar and unaffraid to use brute force to mantain peace.
This episode hinted a little about Kyoshi's own life that is also canonical and I love that. That's one positive point for the live-action, where we get one peek into the life of the past Avatars. With Kyoshi, the episode mentioned how she was an orphan that was taken in by the richest family of the island... what is actually true. Kyoshi was abandoned by her parents and was taken in and put to work as a servant at the house of the one that was misidentified as the Avatar. It was also mentioned that Kyoshi benefited from the kindness of others, which a reference to Kelsang, her adoptive father.
I did like how the show incorporated elements from Legend of Korra, the Kyoshi novels and the Yangchen novels
About the past avatar channelled through the shrines, avatar Roku did the same in book 1 when aang met up with him in his shrine. They kinda just used the same thing with a different location
I feel like the shrines are the easiest way for a living Avatar to contact the past Avatars... that and the Solstice (both Summer and Winter). However, even if Aang can only contact his previous incarnations through their shrines, the previous Avatars are still able of reaching out to him whenever necessary.
That’s exactly what I was thinking. It’s not so out of the ordinary for kyoshi to do that
Fun fact: Suki also admired Mulan, that's how she got the makeup off so fast
?
@@danieloliphant9969 dishonor! Dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow...
@@danieloliphant9969 It's a joke about how quickly Suki was able to magically take off all her makeup.

You are one of the few reactor channels that actually question some of the writing decisions in this. Ily guys, and your cats
I'm surprised soany people can call the show great considering the amateur mistakes in this show. Unpaid fan fictions read better than this "professional" work.
2:56 I actually think it makes more sense for her to get it from Gran Gran, rather than from some random pirates. Because it seemed like the northern water tribe really didn’t leave the North Pole, so how would the pirates have even come across a waterbender to steal from?
Also, I read that they used a real indigenous tribe’s language/alphabet for the words on the scroll!
It doesn’t make sense to remove the pirates because the pirates stealing a Northern style scroll implies a larger, interconnected world with real trading and interactions. The world is not made up of insular communities that are completely self sustainable.
@@SwordTune But that’s not really the case for the North in the cartoon. I never once thought they were trading with anyone. The South definitely wasn’t. The Water Tribes were both very much implied to be isolated communities, aside from the men from the South fighting in the war, and that was only after like 97 years of war. That’s why at the end of Book 1 some of the Northern Water Tribe members leaving to go to the Southern Tribe was so significant.
This is def the way to consume this project. It’s not going to be an exact 1-1 copy of the original but if you just let that go, it’s pretty fun to watch.
But that s the problem, the show itself relies on the fact that viewers have watched the original show, hence taking shortcuts in character development (among other things). It does not really stand firm on its own I think.
100%
@@reksfoleur859 i disagree. I have friends who never watched any ATLA show prior this but still enjoyed this series overall and they actually wanted more hence watched the animated one after
@@pshay2410They enjoyed it? How?
@@reksfoleur859The other problem is that the show just sucks. Like, taken on it's own, the writing is a masterclass on what not to do.
Suki’s mom is Kumiko from The Karate Kid Part II. Roku possessed Aang to protect him after the solstice, and Kyoshi possesses him to plead her case against Chin the Conqueror
I get why they showed Ozai's face. Like, it's the actor's face. He has to get paid!
It's not like the voice acting where he speaks and is still doing his job regardless.
"Oh but the Mandalorian never shows his face" Okay but that's the whole point, he cannot take off his helmet. But Ozai being a faceless character is not a part of who he is, it's an animation choice to create suspense (and save money animating his mouth while talking cause season 1 did not have that much cash)
I allways see live action as a kind of multiverse where is just another way of how things could have went. Like Marvel where the MCU is canonically just another universe. In the comics things happened in a way in universe 616, it happened another way in universe 19999.
Sometimes the character's powers change a little, their personality, etc.
Apparently, commander Zhao's actor thought he was auditioning for Avatar, like blue people, not ATLA. Then supposedly his kids were big fans of the show so he took the role.
1 week full of letts react videos?? HELL YEAH
Right?
get ready for 4 weeks straight of it!!
kyoshi's presentation in this is one of the highlights of this show for me, definitely a strong point of this adaptation
Ken's snarky snaky corporate middle manager Zhao is so good.
the guy who plays Zhao was Juntao in rush hour and Iroh is the man from Kim's convenience! Even the guy who plays Ozai is daniel dae kim, they really got a fire cast for this show for sure. This is awesome that the show you started with is your first live action too! Its also the reason I followed yall in the first place way back then! 😂😂
Ming-Na Wen is Mulan's voice actress, not Tamlyn Tomita.
@@gellertgrindelwald4238 i straight up thought that it was ming na wen…. They’re twins then 😂
@@modelotimefooooo1853 Don't sweat it, my dude. They are both very beautiful women! 😊
Fun Fact: Yukari, the mayor? I guess of Kyoshi Island, is played by Tamlyn Tomita who played Kumiko in The Karate Kid 2
2 this week? Yeahhh
Try 2 every week until this series is over!
And now is the first of 2 choices in this show that I didn't like.... Kyoshi's portrayal/characterization. Yes, Kyoshi was a strong and imposing character in ATLA but she was also CALM and STEADY. Even when fighting an enemy, she was collected -- she never even raised her voice. In this series however she comes off as antagonistic and volatile. Which, I think is totally outside of her personality in ATLA.
I enjoyed the other choices they made here - like actually getting to talk to her this early on. I don't hate that Kyoshi was the one revealing information about the Avatar State instead of Roku. I liked that she got to take over so she could fight and save her people -- it was a much more poignant possession than what we saw in the ATLA. And I LOVED that fight scene!! OMG, I rewatched that scene like 3 times because it was so dope! But the moments leading up to it, when we meet her and she's just nothing like her personality in the cartoon.. I did not like it.
I don't think Kyoshi would yell at a child, for acting like a child. Even if that child was the Avatar. She lived to be 230 years old... a wise, calm, old warrior woman would not yell at and guilt trip a child --- especially because she knows that Roku is far more responsible for the war than Aang is. I think that was so out of character.
This is one reason why I would give the show a 7 or 8 out of 10 instead of a perfect 10. I can deal with situational changes or changes in certain dynamics to make things flow better in a live action adaptation --- but what I can't vibe with is a personality change like this. I was legit taken aback during those conversation scenes. I was like... who dis? You may look like Kyoshi but you sure don't act like her.
What I love though is Suki! I love that she's totally into Sokka and is bombing because the only way she knows how to connect with someone is with her fighting skill. And of course, he doesn't get that it's her love language!! Love it! I really like the changes they made there.
YESSS I was also thrown off with how kyoshi was portrayed. I was finishing reading the kyoshi novels when the live action was just streaming and I was like “kyoshi would NEVER blame aang” she was fierce but not in that was, rangi was tho, she is the fierce one hahah
The fact that this show had so much potential also Zhao met Zuko in the war council in the original not sure why it was changed
When Kyoshi appeared I didn't know whether to be terrified or turned on😂 is that weird
Phillip J. Fry: "I'm scaroused."
@@haydenberends3905what you said…
What type of man is preferred by a bisexual woman avatar??? Do tell ur guess... More masculine or more submissive
Previous Avatars being able to take over in the shrine happened in the animation as well, except it was Roku's shrine (the first time)
People kept saying Aang here was too serious and didnt show the fun side. But NO, this episode is just one of which he shows how he is being Aang like the animated one. Charismatic and playful
Might’ve been hard to catch here, but Ozai is played by Daniel Dae Kim, aka, king Micah.
It’s chilling how well his voice alone works for this role.
Dallas did such a great job as Zuko. Sassy and arrogant lol.
I thought Grangran handing off the scroll was an improvement. I was never much of a fan of the pirates (other than getting to hear Aang say, “What say ye to TWO copper pieces?!”) and it would makes sense that the scroll originated in one of the water tribes. If they were hiding their benders (Katara) they would also hide their written knowledge of it.
Can you guys react to 'One Piece' Live Action next? It's only 8 episodes, accurate to the original manga and anime, and it the best way to watch One Piece without going through 1,100+ episodes (Been ongoing for 24+ years). That's not a remark by the way. I love every single inch of the canon story.
The first season/ 8 episodes cover from Romance Dawn to Arlong Park with Lougetown at the start of season 2. Which is scheduled to be done by Fall/Autumn 2024.
I remember lots of people (myself included) throwing fits about how they got rid of or at least toned down sokas sexist attitude.
At first, it makes sense as it rewins not only his development but also other water tribe characters (katara and paku).
But after his interaction with suki, he's less of a sexist ass hole and more of an ignorant doosh, which given the water tribes culture and how he's never left home before the start of the story makes sense.
It was probably the best compromise they could have done, and it worked just as well as the og, in my opinion.
So great to have you both reacting to the live action series, as it was your reaction to the animated series that made me a forever fan of your channel. 😁
What a nice surprise, looking forward to it!
Admiral Zhao is also Jun Tao from Rush Hour
The Kyoshi novels are actually sooo good, she might be my favorite avatar. It’s also more mature, like legend of korra.
Zhao is like (Jafar from Aladdin) same Snake Energy
I'm glad you're still having fun, even if they decided to stray from the old show in various ways. You could tell for the most part the creators and actors tried their best to respect the reference material, and put a lot of care and love into making this *adaptation* even if it can never be on the same level as the original.
React to Amphibia, Kipo, or Young Justice.
YOUNG JUSTICE!! I want so much they return to it. They have reacted to the first episode, but they didn't continue it. Let's hope they end up returning to it. And now that they have watched The Owl House and Gravity Falls, all they need is to watch Amphibia.
This episode I feel will be remembered for two things:
- Kiyoshi absolutely bodying Zhao's men
and
- Suki removing makeup like two seconds. People watching are probably like, forget the bending can you teach me how to remove makeup that easily!?
I really hate the idea that you can only access the other avatars when at a shrine, seems way to limiting.
Would you guys consider doing the eminence in shadow. It’s legit one of the best animes out there.
Guys letts all show some love to these guys and click the like button, earthbend the subscribe button and turning on post notifications
you should consider reacting to 'mushoku tensei jobless reincarnation'. i would be so much fun seeing y'all reacting to the weird stuff
Oh please no...
@@alexthomas311 why not
No matter how many reactions I see, they always comment on how fast Suki removed her makeup. I mean, most versions of Batman can but on a Batsuit in less than a minute 😳 one of the most iconic Batmans slides down a pole to get into his 🤪
Do not like this version of kyoshi. Good makeup, acting, and presence, but the personality is down right incorrect. Funny how they make references to the Kyoshi book then entirely betray her portrayal there.
I mean once Kyoshi enters the fray, you might as well just give up. You are not winning this one :D
you guys NEED to get a Siamese cat and name it Momo
Si
Genial Genial Genial....
FINALLYYYY
Kyoshi Shine like it should be. The information about her on Zuko's Notebook Is true, she was not exactly an"orphan" her parents abandoneded her on Kyoshi Island previously named Yokoya, when she was like 6-8 yrs old. Her mother was an Airbender and her father an earthbender their were criminals.
Nobody wanted her until an Airbender kinda adopted her, this Airbender was a friend of avatar Kuruk and also was the one who discover Kyoshi being the avatar when she was like 16 yrs.
Laughed out loud at 'D'aang'
It's longer and also speed running the story and something I hope they fix in season 2
18:20 I assume she just knows. A lot of people got mad about this asking how the hell Kyoshi would know about what was going to happen to the North, asking about how she knew the future. Well, it was Roku who told Aang about the comet. How did he know it would return in a 100 years? How did he know Ozai was planning to use it to end the war? No one asked those questions during the animated show but suddenly in the live-action, they're relevant?
Y’all look high high in the beginning

@@LettsReact 😂😂cheers
Best part that happened in the atla universe cartoon or live action is Kiyoshi's arrival on the island wreaking havoc. lol. The rest of the writing in my honest opinion is trash.
The actors, effects, wardrobe are okay already. I really really really hope they do something about the writing and direction next season.
i hate how kyoshi is portrayed. she’s not a war crazy angry woman. she’s a calm, collected, and protective woman. not ONCE did she yell in the animation.
Same here. They took what the fans thought of Kyoshi and made it canon 💀
Kyoshi is the most misunderstood character of the whole ATLA and ofc Netflix took fanbase's version of her. Yangchen was the more brutal one.
Thank you.
@@uhohmykokoro1616
"Kyoshi usually hid her self-doubts and compassion behind an image of righteous fierceness to fulfill her duties as the Avatar, showing her loving and friendly side only to those with whom she was close. To those she did not know, she came across as direct, fierce, and assertive, and made her voice heard no matter what her internal feelings might have been." Not to mention she killed many people in her time. Not just Chin. Read the books. We didn't make her this way, the writer's did
Yes, Kyoshi was very caring... as a person. But one can't forget that she would place her duties as the Avatar as a priority. She grew up in an era full of great political unstability and wars due to the fact Kuruk neglect his duties on the physical world so he could defend it from dark spirits. All that forced her to adopt a harsher demeanor in order to install peace and mantain it. She literally had no qualms in killing anyone she perceived as being completely evil and she even threatened the Earth King himself.

If i have to say 1 thing that is, i hate when cartoons needed a “modern times” fill, all it does takes away certain character moments, thoughts, & how they change. To me if let say a female character likes a boy or something but female doesn’t like how “She’s post to be a girl boss” or whatever, can’t think of a scenario but again i think of characters as that character, they’re not meant to be you.
React to demon slayer season 4
all and all , i liked how ruthless they made kyoshi in this series, it was already pointed how she doesn't play around in the og show but i like how here they were just like = yeah guys this lady is THE female rage
Sassy lib 😂
I originally wasn't going to follow this reaction because losing my insanity once was enough, but it wouldn't be fair to them. Time to see their gradual descent into madness as they realize how poorly written the live action is.
This show is better reacted to drunk.
