    This is great! I used a Banks cai on my 02 Silverado and I was never really happy with it. The intake Must have that rubber bendable tubing on it. The fixed box doesn’t move in relation to the engine. They resonate differently

    • @HowtowithPaulHenderson

      GM/Chevy did a superb job on designing this set up. It looks awesome and is a perfect fit, and it's a sealed box not gaskets to seal against the hood. On my 06 Silverado that I bought in 2012 I installed a K&N cold air intake system and it had an open top that sealed against the hood with a gasket along the edge of the open box, it was nice but it looks aftermarket. This one looks like it belongs, I've seen a few aftermarket CAI systems that are massively big. I also installed the Stillen CAI Scoop to catch the cooler air from right behind grill and direct it right over to the intake tube that leads to the filter box. And there was definitely a sound difference between the stock and this new CAI System.

      Did you buy it from the dealership or the shopchevyparts.com... when you download the instructions from the shopchevyparts.com site or from the link I put in with a description of this video. It comes with a labor code that you need to show at the dealership for the free calibration... When I bought it back in November I was able to pull the instructions off of the shopchevyparts.com site but I tried to find it on there during the editing process of this video and I couldn't locate. it it's probably there. @@jimmylittle4448... I was looking at it last year on the STILLEN site. It's not a ram scoop but I'm sure a small amount of air will be forced over to the intake tube. What I like about it is that it will scoop air from what it looks like about 5 to 6 inches from the front of the radiator fins, so to me It should be grabbing cooler air then what the stock grille does, since some of that hot air travels up the radiator and makes it way over to the intake tube...Chevy has a similar design on a different engine then our v-8 5.3 does.

      If you bought a brand-new unit, it would come with a sticker for the air box and a white information sticker for the driver door frame. It will also come with a sheet to take to the dealer with a code for them to use that has a zero charge to it. If you bought yours on the Chevy.com website and it says it can be used on your vehicle in the paperwork you got it should have came with a code that you would give to them to where it comes up for free. When I took mine in they tried to tell me I had to pay for it I told him no I don't. It says right here that this kit comes with a free computer re-programming.
      If they still refuse to do it, I would maybe try a different dealership.. I drove a couple weeks without the reprogramming and no trouble codes came up. Be sure to install the large sticker either on top of the box or on the other side of the hood and it also comes with a white sticker that you would stick on the driver side door jamb along with the other information stickers.

      The install was pretty easy. The removal of the old air-box kept getting hung-up on a hose on one side and the wire-looms on the other.....It's been over a week since the install and I can definitely fell a small difference in performance gain.. I'm hoping that when the STILLEN Cold Air-Scoop arrives and I get it installed it will add to the performance gain that I got from the Cold-Air Intake....I don't see how it can't since the system will be getting more cold air from the front of the air grill rather than the air that rolls up the radiator before it is sucked into the intake tube....

    • @HowtowithPaulHenderson
      @HowtowithPaulHenderson  Před rokem

      @@ryanbacich1125 it's really hard to say. It does make sense because it's getting the air from right behind the grill and then it goes up and over and down and into the air intake system.
      Whereas before it would get all jumbled mixed with a hot air from the radiator and that air would go over a small hump and go down into then up into the air intake system. So with this you're definitely getting cooler air, cooler air being sucked into the air intake is better than hot air. To me it makes sense some people say it's a waste of money but Chevy did design a similar unit for a different style Silverado. I can't remember offhand exactly which engine configuration it is. So Chevy didn't realize that an air scoop does make a difference. So I think it's worth it it's only 200 bucks.

      Gas mileage is the same, it does sound a little different in the engine compartment. the air is not so disrupted by the plenum or spark arrestor as they called him back in the day. And of course this is paired with my stillen cold air intake scoop and the Pulsar LT so now my dfm has been disabled. So I think it might have a little bit power they say it increases cold air intake system should increase it. it. it's really hard for me to say. But once I installed the Pulsar LT now it feels a lot better and it feels like it has more power but it's probably just because the dfm has been disabled and the computer is no longer deactivating cylinders. There was that lag time and the cylinders had to kick back on.

      It's a dry media filter, you cannot clean it like a k&n gauze filter. You can however use a vacuum to clean it. I did order a few filters from Chevroletpartsdirect.com, the air filter element is #84428120 about 60 dollars if you get it on sale. The reason why they don't recommend using a k&n washable and oilable gauze air filter is because the mass airflow sensor is so close to the filter and if any of that oil were to get sucked on to the mass air flow sensor it could damage it. That is what I was told by k&n and another company that sells washable air filters.. I cannot remember their name... I do not believe the filter lifetime indicator works properly with the aftermarket GM air intake. Mine does say 85% left, but we have the clear lid I just keep checking it at every oil change looks fine to me.
      I hope this answers your question. I do believe I put a link to that air filter in the description of the video. Otherwise go to GM parts direct I ordered it on 12/22/ 21 it took about 3 weeks to get because they were out of stock. So I would suggest ordering at least one now so you have it when you eventually need it. I don't know if you need a set of mud splash guards but I'm doing a giveaway live on my channel Friday at 5:00 p.m.. When I click the link to the GM parts direct site that I had inserted in the description of the video it automatically goes to the one that ends at 120.. actually the lifetime air filter sensor should be deactivated but you can leave it on you just can't go buy it. I did talk to a few people wanted k&N and wanted s&b and they both said with that filter you can vacuum off most of the dirt to get more life out of it,. The reason why you can't use a k&N or an oiled God's filter is because of the mass air flow sensor is too close to the air filter and that oil can be sucked on to the mass air flow sensor and will ruin it. I bought three air filters I got them on sale. If you can should have one extra on hand at all times cuz one time I ordered a filter and it took a month to get because it was on backorder.

      No, it will not void your warranty. This is a GM Chevy authorized cold air intake system and it also came with a free calibration at the dealership. Even if it was an aftermarket air intake it will not void your warranty.

      GM does and they supply the code needed for the re-program of the ECU plus a new Emission Control Sticker.
