My mother was born in Sicily ninety-eight years ago and still kicking; it is one of the most wonderful places on earth and my mother still talks about it after having been here for eighty-five years.
If it was so wonderful , why did she come here?
It will be good idea to go there with your Grandmother. Am from sicily myself and I'll be returning this summer.
How wonderful looks. Amazing
That must be a nice country
Wow mashaallha
I have to highlight that he's not the typical uneducated, shallow tourist who doesn't even know where he's travelling to, the historical introduction in your videos is brilliant and it gives credit to the places you visit. Greetings from a Sicilian.
fulippu annaghiti indeed it’s a great homage to Sicily
Hello friend sending my gift to you see you around stayconnect godbless
I am Sicilian also and my dream is to move to Sicily once I am old enough.
I was born in Siracusa, my entire family is from Sicily. Nothing compares to Sicily. Nowhere in the world you can find a comparable mixture of history, culture, tradition, food, landscapes, etc
"To have seen Italy without having seen Sicily is not to have seen Italy at all, for Sicily is the clue to everything.” So wrote Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe, after visiting the island in 1787
I lived in Italy for over 10 years. There's a saying there that "If they don't build a bridge to Sicily, it will float away."

@@joemoschetta1541 Italy is so beautiful. Wish I could visit 😅😭
Beautiful culture and people
Sicily is out of this world. So beautiful. No picture, moving or still, can give it justice. I was stunned. Breathtaking! Will come back again and again. And the food! Prepare to gain a few pounds! 🥰😍
I am from Palermo, and listening the people shouting in the ballarò market made me laugh a lot, becouse for me its very funny to see it in a serious foreign documentary like this

Rick Steves' is too great im watch remembering the years ago when i was a child i would watch him on PBS at my grandparents house. Ahh Rick Steves on tv on a rainy day with coffee in hand.
I love how Rick shows off Europe in such an authentic way. Ultra friendly, no snobbery, and an appreciation for both the folk and aristocratic culture.
A lot of people are turned off of Europe understandably because so many are snobby about it, but Rick shows it off in such an authentic and passionate way. He's just true to himself and loves the culture.
Rick is the definition of cool
What's wrong with Europe? It's a beautiful continent.
The hardest-working man in Tourism.
God bless Italy. May all go well soon! My heart goes to the people and families who are affected by coronavirus!
Just came back form Palermo, Cefalu, Taormina and Catania, Sicily is an amazing place to visit!!!!
Researching to go there next week for a week...
When you come back? I am a travel agent
It also has the best beach of Italy ... San Vito Lo Capo
A life time dream to visit to my Grandparents Home. When I hear the calls at the market. It always brings tears to my eyes, its the passion, the sound , it really has its effect. I want to spend one week in that market place and eat everything I see from my childhood etc, etc. Manga Sicilian would be a form of heaven.
Bravo Sicily!!!
I lived in Italy for two years, about five months of that was spent in Sicily. It is definitely an immersive culture. Spero di poter tornare a vivere un giorno!
I’m traveling to Sicily for the first time and can’t wait to visit Palermo where my family is from! Walking the streets of my grandparents and father who have passed will be an honor and emotional ❤
Would love to go to Sicily.
My grandmother is from there.
Interesting place.
I'm from NYC.
Grew up with people from Italy.
In May 2003 I took the ferry from Genoa to Palermo. What a fascinating city. I visited Monreale and then walked back down to Palermo with wonderful views. I had delicious food, one memorable dish was Sicilian cuscusu. I attended a superb performance of Verdi's Macbeth at the beautiful Teatro Massimo. I joined in a passeggiata around Palermo's main piazza. The only thing missing for me was a Jewish community which can be found elsewhere in Italy. I did notice two Protestant churches in Palermo, one of which was Anglican, the other may have been Methodist. I took the train to Agrigento and I recall there was an old man of whom other passengers told me spoke only Sicilian - I had taken Italian classes for a couple of years, so my Italian while not fluent was enough flor me to get by.
Agrigento has these wonderful Greek temples just as Rick Steves describes. From there I took the train to Messina where along the way I saw Mt. Etna smoking away! At Messina I took the ferry to Reggio Calabria, well not quite, and waited there for the train to Naples. I want to keep on traveling to Naples again and onto Rome. Let's hope we all do that once more and soon.
I've traveled throughout Italy but Sicily is easily my favourite part of this amazing yet crazy country
People shouting in Palermo traditional market remind me of my flash visit 2 years ago 😅. It was an early morning, after light rain, my friend and I were walking, trying to find interesting sight, then we found a market, heard people shouting. This is what we love in a traveling! 😁
Why the barons of the BBC don't buy your shows? It's so refreshing to see/hear programmes on Europe made by intelligent people. Thank you for posting here Sir.
This felt like I was watching a movie in a high school history class - it’s not a bad thing. It’s just very informative and educational! I learned a lot about Sicily ☺️
Stunning. I’m proud to be part Sicilian.
I am a travel agent. Would you like to visit Sicily?
I am half Sicilian and I would love to move there when I am older. My dad used to live there.
@@katiehaskell888 I might only be a quarter sicilian but id also love to visit it too and see where my grandfathers family came from!

Sicily truly is a breathtaking place to visit. I’ve been fortunate to have visited twice so far. I’d recommend it to anyone. As a golfer, I just wish that were more golf courses!
Loved the video. I was in Sicilia in 1977. Yes, it was an island of beautiful scenery, great food, history, architecture and dynamic culture. It's also where my family was from.
i just watched 5 straight episode of Steve's adventure through italy. I wanna go back! Thank you Rick for your knowledge and ability to travel all over europe

Ciao to our brothers in Sicilia from Grecia.
Sicily and Greece never cousins, only brothers, you chose the right words! Ciao
fulippu annaghiti Bella Sicilia! Everything about Sicily, the people, the culture, the landscape, the architecture screams home. Greeks and Italians have been sharing history for so long but I believe we’re especially close to Sicilians. We even share near identical DNA.
@@angrybirdo Ilias Pap that's a factual truth as I recently had my DNA tested with myheritage and I was for half Greek, the rest north African, Spaniards and Sardinian and surprisingly only 2% Italian. In Calabria and Puglia there are still villages where they speak Greek. Especially in Sicily they left a legacy, just Google Taormina, Agrigento, Selinunte, Syracuse and Segesta to have an idea

Thanks for the movie Rick! We've just come back from Sicily and we are full of impressions and joy! It's a land one must see in a lifetime. We’ve traveled the world, but after working and living mostly in Asia for fifteen consecutive years, we have just recently (in the past 5-6 years) been exploring Europe. We’re quickly becoming fans of your travel guide(s); that contain such outstanding information, and are so complete. The videos are icing on the cake. Thanks for the wonderful insights.

“Hi I’m Rick Steves” always gets me every time
As long as he doesn't start with "Hey guys!".
My father’s side of the family came from Ficarrazzi, Sicily and my mother’s family from Rome. Unfortunately though, they emigrated to the United States, became naturalized, and I was born a US citizen. I have always been more proud of my Italian and Sicilian heritage, more so than I ever was being a US citizen. I have been to mainland Italy numerous times, but haven’t made it to Sicily yet. I’m hoping next year. Good thing is that I live in Europe now and can make it there in a couple short hours by airplane.
i just love sweet Palermo.
