- Zack goes whitewater kayaking down the Lower Madawaska River while taking breaks to discuss how to start paddling whitewater, like how to find paddling friends, what skills to focus on and where to learn them. He also offers valuable points about using simple rapids to grow your skills.

Thank you for volunteering my brother
Great video. Agreed about all the points made, really sensible way to approach things.
Much appreciated!
Great info Zack! Awesome video!
Appreciate it Matthew! Thanks!
I enjoyed my course with the Paddler Co-op. They were great... only issue now is that I'm HOOKED ughhhh. Every trip is a whitewater trip now.
😆 It's not a terrible thing, is it?
It's hard to tell from the video so I gotta ask, is you pigtail carabiner attached to your shoulder strap without a quick release? Both ends should be on quick release.
Awesome! That looked like great fun, makes me want to give it a try this summer!
You should! We'd love to have you out Jeff!
I started by getting some instruction, reading the water, paddle strokes, and having an instructor to help with the basics. Learning to roll will increase your learning curve. You will try new things, knowing that if you mess up, you can roll. I see a lot of self taught paddlers that paddle inefficiently, work ten times harder than me. Get some instruction first.
Zack that looked like a lot of fun. Great advice.
Thank you, it was an excellent day!
Fantastic! Great video!
Thank you very much, glad you liked it!
One of the best intro to... videos I've seen. Having done a few videos myself, I know how much work it takes to film, narrate and edit these can be. Great advice from a great white water embassador, with great company. Passionate, knowledgeable and beyond helpful. FYI, I'm not affiliated with Frontenac in any way and I'm (sadly ) not getting paid for this comment. ;) Just paying respect. Tony should should get a kickback though. :)
Wow! That's super kind of you to say, Chris. We much appreciate it a lot, thank you. We'll be sure to offer Tony the drink of his choice next time we can break bread!
Good vid and good advice.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome
Thanks Tony!
Lol I thought that was you.
what is that camera mount on your bow? thnx for posting.
I haven't done any whitewater but I work at the NOC and all my friends here do. I do photos and stuff but at some point I'd like to go off the shore and into the water.
My goal is to eventually be able to do some tricks and just play around. Idk what kind of kayak to get though, my coworkers asked what I wanted and I said "A fun one" and they laughed without answering me. So idk what to get
Hey Zack
Do u still go to the lower madawaska?
Would that be class 1 or 2 ?
It’s closer to a class 2 or 3.
@@FrontenacOutfitters Thanks, I don't have any white water experience, so I was guessing. Very good advice on developing a skill set rather than focusing on rolling right away. A good reflexive brace is better than a roll any day.
Please hook your cowtail to releasable points! Please, you can drown because of that.
