    I came to realize after hearing and watching Jonathan play that if I would have been a better student during my organ studies anything I have to offer would be "chop sticks" compared to Jonathan's simplest compositions. I remain in total awe every time I visit him on You-Tube.

    I've only been listening to organ pieces for a few weeks now but have learned so much from Jonathan and others. Amazing that some organs have 10s of thousands of pipes and that the organ is over two-thousand years old. I grew up playing trumpet and trombone and then drums in the fife and drum corps. The one thing I loved was the booming sound and power of those collective drums. That is what got me into guitar and eventually electric guitar. I've always loved a good raucous sound. Now I've found the ultimate instrument, the organ that gives that same massive sound. So glad I ran into the Scott brothers. I've just begun the trip and it's a blast. Kudos!

    The pedal solo is wonderfully articulated and projected. The camera view from the toe stud perspective on the right side is very innovative. The hall acoustic is very dry, I think the overall articulation could be a little more legato.

  • @asvarien
    @asvarien Před 2 lety +1

    I'm confused, the setup here is completely different to the setup in toccata & fugue in D minor from March 2013. In the earlier video it's a completely different keyboard console that's sat all on it's own in the middle of a stage. What's going on?

    • @epincion
      @epincion Před 2 lety +4

      The organ has two consoles - a mobile digital one and a fully mechanical one and this is taken from a recent concert (May 2021 program of all Bach music) this time using the mechanical console. If you watch the upload of the recent concert Jonathan explains why he chose to perform using that console. (starting at 7.50)

      I remember that. Boris Karloff's servant played it as his master's followers entered for the black mass. Watched it on TV with an older brother. One of the first times I heard Bach. Of course it was many years before I knew it was Bach, let alone what piece. Ah, memories. From Chicago, U.S.A.

  • @mattporter1692
    @mattporter1692 Před rokem +1

    A fantastic organist but this really has absolutely no likeness to a traditional Bach registration for one of his larger pieces. That actually sounds like a 32ft bombard or a contre bombard at the start of the Toccata and it’s really not nice at all

    • @epincion
      @epincion Před rokem +1

      There are plenty of purists like you who want to listen to, and many who play Bach as you imagine he did with the now historic organs avail to him of the day but then many more of us like hearing his work interpreted for another era and yes we love a 32" bombarde.
      It's the same with hearing Bach's keyboard works on a modern piano which many great virtuoso pianists do and I for one love them - but Bach never saw such an instrument and wrote for harpsichord.
