-William Butler Yeats
Beautiful.
Sounds about right.
Aye
This is great
@@KittyStarlight Just a Saturday night.
Seo Linn just would win the Eurovision for us. Facts.
generally speaking, those that stay true to their culture do well in Eurovision. So yeah, I hope we can get to see Seo Linn representing Ireland soon
Eurovision is trash and winners are picked based on political goals and social goals.
This has been one of my favorite songs since I was a small child. When my voice dropped, I lamented I couldn't sing it anymore. It was "too pretty", I was convinced, for a man's voice to do it justice.
I have rarely been happier to be wrong.
We spent the last two days moving out of a four bedroom house and the big screen was the last to go. The whole time we moved we put Seo Linn on and just let them play non stop. I'm getting where I can sing along with them. My daughter and I stopped a few times to sing with them at the top of our lungs. Of course we had the volume up loud. The drums take me to another place, so does the accordian. These artists are top of the line. Won't find any better Irish singers!!! LOVE THEM!
Love the intense soliloquy near the end. Thanks so much for the lyrics to it as well. For us English speakers, here is the translation for that part of the song:
History says not to be courageous â,
On this side of the end stone.
But once in a lifetime, the wild wave of justice rises
to the horizon shining
and history and hope marry.
So look for the sea change,
on the other side of revenge.
Believe in the white shore, it is not far from us.
Believe in the miracle, believe in the peace, believe in the well of healing,
Believe.
(What s beautiful version...THANKS!!!)
That is righteous. How can you not bleed for the Irish after tht.
At the start it would be
Walk, walk walk my love.
Walk steadily and walk quietly.
Walk to the door and escape with me,
And i hope you go safely ( not sure, i dont know what a âbĂșirnĂnâ is)
But i prefer the irish version, as an irish speaker myself.
Seo Linn, This is an absolutely thrilling version of this beautiful traditional song. I love the crescendo of the drums toward the end. The spoken word coda by Stiofan, near the finale, is so dramatic and emotional.
I felt these thrills. Thank you guys. This is an ART what you do. Love from Poland
Atta boy lads
It's the build in intensity that makes it amazing. I'm sharing with my gamer friends to show them what a bard is.
StiofĂĄn rolled a nat 20 on Performance here. Take your Inspiration dice!
That was sweet!
it's a prosody called the ziggurat, like climbing a step pyramid, increasing intensity and volume to a peak. then rejoicing and peace of accompliceshment at the summit.
Mum used to sing a *slightly* different version of this as my lullaby - in her words "You would never have gone to sleep if I had sung your lullaby like this
Gafa leis, lads. This gave me mad chills.
Proud to be Irish and young men carry on our beautiful music
It seethes and boils and explodes. It shouts and simmers. It's the most angry defiant and powerful version I've heard. Very different from most. I won't say it's best only that it's wonderful. And that VOICE. the beauty!
Some songs l feel in my bones , my heart and my soul.. then l walk with my ancestors .
Outstanding !!!
I honestly never thought a version of this song sung by a man could work so well. A thousand congratulations, Seo Linn!
A thousand thank yous for them! đ
This is a beautiful cover, Probably the best one
Passionate, charismatic and extremely gifted singers and musicians that rouse you to follow them, lead on!
That magic accordion as well wonderful all of it
I have no words for such raw power and passion. Stirs my Celtic blood.
IÂŽÂŽm Argentinian, I dont understand a single word of this song but I still love it!!
Incredible voice. It's the blend with the Irish that makes it haunting. A respect for my own culture.
Wow...a fiercely proud version of this classic. Love theaccordion!
The accordionistÂŽs name is Kev Shortall and heÂŽs not just a great accordion player, heÂŽs also a good teacher and altogether a great person đ
Me feeling 200% Irish listening to this song, while being Spanishđ.
Love this band, and this song!!!!ââș
The Spanish are actually fairly Celtic, as are many Western-Europeans đ€·đ»ââïž I've always loved flamenco, by the way, and I'm half-Irish, half-French LOL
I didn't know how badly i needed a masculine cover of this song...now I do this is gorgeous!!
I had only heard him sing ĂrĂł 'SĂ© do bheatha 'bhaile until now, he brings a beautiful intensity to the songs. I'm learning several Irish folk songs, ive completed this one :)
Exquisite đ
I'm not Irish, but I'm ready to go to battle with the Irish! Love you guys
I love their more Irish stuff. Their other stuff is okay and maybe more commercial for a broader audience - but let's face it, that kind of music can be done by anyone. Seo Linn's genius is music like this. This is soul-wrenching.
Proper Soldiers Is Art !!!
@@ArielBerdugo You're either up late or up early on Sunday. LOL. Where I am, it is 2 a.m.
as someone whos family left ireland and raised me in the west im thankful that media like this exists so i can piece my culture together, folks were lame and didnt even try to be irish, forced to americanise very hard, lost my brouge when i was 7 because of speech therapy classes. awful. but the spoken culture of our people will never die, erin go bragh
These guys are one of the artists making Irish music cool. Maith thu!
Mind blown. Wow. I'm African American with distant Irish ancestry and this gave me chills. The lead singer is AMAZING
I love that their version makes this more emotional and angry - itâs about a woman selling off everything she owns and suffering through it so her husband could fight the Brits, after all. We donât know what the probable husband is thinking, but she would go out and blow their heads off herself if she couldâve in the time this was written.
Itâs also kinda cool to see a young group taking this song on with a man singing it, which is not the norm for this song.
Not quite. She would sell her only spinning wheel "to take away the sword of steel." It's an ANTI-war song by a woman lamenting her husband going off to war. And NOT originally to fight the Brits--to fight as one of the "wild geese" in foreign wars (probably for Napoleon)@@eriktroske6405
@@eriktroske6405 IÂŽm not sure about fighting the Brits, I think I read somewhere Britain conscripted him to fight for its cause in France
@@martavdz4972 interesting, I didnât know that.
Given the historical context and what Britain has done to Ireland, that was the obvious assumption to make!

Love the Gaelic language. It is fantastic that is being kept alive and that there is pride in their culture. This is music unlike so much of the trash today.
There are heaps and heaps of excellent music today, but it isnÂŽt meainstream so you donÂŽt hear about it. And itÂŽs also in smaller countries, in other languages than English. The HU from Mongolia make great music, or you can check out the studio version of "Acis veras aizveras" by IĻĹI from Latvia, "Mezi horami" by Äechomor from Czech Republic, Tinariwen from Niger, "Nenjinile Nenjinile" by A.R. Rahman from India...
what an amazing band and a brilliant song. I love it. đđźđȘđ
I am blown away!
I absolutely love your version of Siuil a Run. The crescendo and the spoken word gave me chills. Also, Kevin, your accordion is beautiful.
j'adore ! merci pour ce merveilleux moment
I discovered this traditional song in Clannad's album called "Dulaman".
But, this song is played in a modern way that sounds rather very nice. Therefore, they deserve to be encouraged by keep on singing in Irish...đ
It would be spelt dĂșlaman, but what do you mean? I donât understand đ
Why do I always feel like you called me to arms after your songs, what magic is this?
As soon as I heard it, I thought it should be in a Hollywood battle scene
@@jasonhawes5096 I couldn't agree more!
Because a lot of traditional irish songs that have been recorded are exactly that
@@b-beale1931 but when I listen to the version of riverdance it is the song of a mourning bethrothed, nothing warrior like about it

I could totally hear this as the song for an epic historical movie trailer
So expressive and amazing voices. Love from the USA.
Wow brilliant !! Congrats !!
I spent 20 days in Ireland a couple years ago and as a group they have to be one of the most beautiful people on earth,
As promised, watching it again and again :)

Thank you my dear ! I'm with you!
Hi !
I am French.
I listen this group since a long time.
Be proud to be Irisch and continue to
defend your traditions and republic !
I am french too, I've only known Seo Linn for a few month but i immediadely liked their music and their songs between tradition and modernity in défense of their language. Bravo
Canât defend your traditions and history in America definitely donât come here
Thanks France. You've always been with Ireland and America. We are grateful.
@Eternity Bound You have so many facts wrong, lord above. First of all, Gallic is not spoken anymore. French and Hallo are both Latin languages. Second, the connection of the Gauls and the Irish isn't through Galatia, it's in either Northern Spain, through the similarly named Galicia, or from the Aquitaine region. Thirdly, Farsi isn't a Celtic language, it's indo-aryan. All three languages mentioned are indoeuropean though, so there is that at least.
@@nunyabisness7055 - Thanks very much for your input. Ignore Eternity Bound and any other similar squawkers. Plus you have one of the best handles I ever saw on the internet. :)
Aaaaand now I'm looking for how I can move to a small Irish village to grow herbs and learn Gaelic....
Look up the Mossy Bottom channel on here...take some inspiration from that fella...he did exactly what you're talking about! Good luck! Sustenance farms are a wonderful thing!
preferably a village inhabited by these lovely boyos.

This is proper music. Passion and soul and energy !
AmhrĂĄinn ĂĄlainn, GRMA!!
Beautiful and powerful at the same time. Greetings from Colombia
I love this group! The voices, instruments, and music choices. And they are hot.
Pete Seeger sings a song called "Johnny Has Gone for a Soldier" that is clearly an evolutionary American mountain version of this song. So fascinating what survives and the changes made to those surviving bits over many long years
In high school I was very much into folk music. My girlfriend and I learned Revolutionary War era songs and made a program of them. We went around to all the history classes and sang them. She played guitar and I played tambourine (because that's all I could play). She's an alto and I'm a soprano, so we could do harmonies. It was a lot of fun and a different way to learn history.
Thereâs an excellent novel that was inspired by Pete Serverâs song called Johnnyâs Got His Gunâ.
Here in Virginia I once sang this song around a campfire and then the Civil War re-enactors explained how it evolved to Johnny Has Gone for a Soldier and then sang that song to us
Cant wait to see and hear this.
Went looking for some Clannad to calm me down before work and happened upon this fresh sesh. Now this is a great reimagining. Go hiontach, buachaillĂ.
Clannad: Calm down before work.
This: Prepare for battle. Whatever challenges work has in store for you stand no chance!

Well done! So important to keep our cultures an traditions and stories alive, itâs what grounds us, gives us strength, lets us know home and family and keeps us on the right path. Too much history is lost.

Most versions I've heard of this are quite slow. I like the more uptempo beat, with Kev's great accordion! Fantastic! Thank you!
My great-grandparents were Gaelic speakers from Connemara. Listening to your music makes me feel connected to a heritage that my family lost years ago. Your songs were actually the first in Gaelic I had ever heard. Thank you for sharing this otherworldly language and making me proud to call it mine. Amazing work. Best of luck to all of you.
If you yourself want to learn some Irish, there are lots of online resources and classes and conversation groups. Lots of lovely speakers from Conamara to be found on programmes on TG4 television, RaidiĂł na Gaeltachta radio, and more.
I love the way this builds and becomes loud and defiant. My new favourite version of this song.
I have only ever heard it as a woman's lament. (eg Clannad) The defiance here is brilliant It takes it from weakness to defiance, but a Good defiance. He is not declaring war on anyone, he is just reclaiming his birthright and heritage. (He actually says he wants to take swords away) Love it.
