  • Lochia is also known as postpartum bleeding and it occurs for up to 6 weeks after birth. Bleeding postpartum isn't usually anything to be concerned about but it is important to know what to expect and what signs to look out for which could require medical assistance. Postnatal bleeding occurs after vaginal AND C-section births. It is important to rest and take it easy while bleeding after birth to ensure that your body can heal and recover properly during the postpartum period. I hope that you find this video about postpartum bleeding helpful!

    I’m one month postpartum and I stopped bleeding completely even before he turned one month. I started bleeding again a few days ago, it’s not extremely heavy but it’s still coming. No pain and a bit of clot. I thought it was my period at first but to the during of the days and the amount of blood, I don’t think it’s my period. I’m just wondering if it’s normal to start bleeding again after it completely stopped. I’m breastfeeding exclusively and I had a vaginal birth.

      It just sounds like the bleeding is soon going to stop completely. Most women do not begin ovulating until at least 6 weeks after childbirth, but a few ovulate sooner. It is quite normal to still experience some bleeding but it should not be heavy. Is your bleeding heavy? Do you feel unwell? If worried, get checked by a doctor to be safe and reassured. To minimize postpartum bleeding, avoiding strenuous activity, heavy lifting and getting rest is important. Also, not having sex until your bleeding has stopped is advised. Are you breastfeeding? If not, you may have gotten your first period after giving birth. This can happen with women who are using formula milk. Thought I would ask 👍💕

    Is it terrible that I’ve been quite active postpartum (15 days currently) and I keep getting gushes of dark red lochia? I haven’t had more than 1 day to fully rest. I have a 2.5 year old and we had my Mother in laws funeral shortly after being discharged from the hospital and it was a lot going on. I haven’t stayed home all day except one day and today so far, although I have been slightly active because I have a toddler as well. My husband works so it’s just me. Should I contact my OBGYN or is it ok if it’s just intermittent gushes of dark blood?

    • @HypnobirthingWithAnja
      @HypnobirthingWithAnja  Před rokem +2

      Hi! Thanks for your question. Firstly, I'm so sorry to hear about your mother-in-law law. That's terrible and must be very hard to cope with. I hope your husband is ok.
      Also, you have a 2.5 year old which means you are going to be up and about with them.
      You are dealing with a lot right now.
      Since I am not a doctor, nor can I diagnose anything, I would always advise getting checked by a medical professional.
      Bleeding after birth is normal but since you're not getting much rest and recovery time after birth, this could be causing the gushes of blood due to stress and over-exertion.
      To me, it doesn't sound really really alarming but I know that I bled more when I didn't rest and it took my womb longer to heal after birth because I tried to do too much too soon.
      I know it's very hard for you to relax at the moment but I would go to the doctor and then try to rest as much as you can if it's possible (when your toddler naps or goes to bed)
      I would go to bed early if you can at night.
      💞 Good luck darling, sending love 💕💖

    • @HypnobirthingWithAnja
      @HypnobirthingWithAnja  Před rokem +1

      Hi! Thanks for your question. If you are a breastfeeding mum it's very rare to have a period until you stop breastfeeding. I breastfeed for 16 months and didn't get a period until 17 months after giving birth. I'm not sure what caused your bleeding after 6 weeks. Have you had sex? Sex can cause bleeding if you are not fully recovered from birth. You can also get pregnant while breastfeeding so be careful. Your womb needs to recover for atleast 2-3 months after giving birth (the area where your placenta was has to heal). If you are experiencing cramps and bleeding I would see a doctor to check you are ok and don't have an infection. It may be nothing at all and just your hormones balancing out. But I would also go and see a doctor to get checked for your own health and safety 💖👍
