10. Filmer / CZcamsr
Thanks for watching. There's a lot more surfer characteristics out there, so if you guys really like this episode I'll make another episode featuring it. Let me know in the comments which one you are and which characteristics I left out.
Music: Sarah, the illstrumentalist and baegel - Sport
You forgot one:
The landlocked Surfer, our surfing is shit, but we have infinite passion for the sport and lifestyle and clog the lineups at Bali pointbreaks on our 2 month surf trips.
That’s me
Guilty
You guys are the true hard core. I freak out when there's a two week lull. You guys endure 9 month lulls.
@@teahorseguitarstraps1856 - Believe me, I have been trying to figure this out for 1 year. Where can I do the job I want with waves close by. Crowding Bali in 3 weeks though
Get close to superior or Lake Michigan. Just gotta be cold blooded. Those folks are wild!
love how you presented each with stoke and applause ..zero negativity detected. So healthy Brad! Keep em coming!
You forgot the Wavestorm Warrior!
I almost added it, next time for sure.
good call
I was crippled for a few years and started back again on a wavestorm. Got some sick waves about 8-10 ft faces at my local before deciding its time to switch back to my good board.
😂🙋♂️
Especially on the Gulf Coast. It’s always the same 5-10 guys on these days. And the only time it holds a decent semi consistent sizable wave for 1-2 days. The best one I’ve had was hurricane Harvey when it hit Texas I was just south of it and it was ridiculous (above 7ft lol)
Don't forget the surfer who loves surfing but just isn't that good at it. They usually know they aren't that good but they don't care, they just enjoy being out there and having a go
You have to make a video about yourself and your injury! I had no idea about that and that's cool to know a little bit more about you.
What happened?
I don't want to bore you with that but I've been getting more comments similar to yours. Guess I'll have to fit it in to an upcoming episode.
@@BradJacobson would love to hear about it brad! Thanks man
You nailed the types and weren't mean. That's rare. Fun video. Thanks.
Yeah, I tried to keep it polite. Rather hard on some :)
I was at the beach yesterday about to go in the water. I was taking selfies and some dude yelled from his car "stop taking selfies and get out there" 💀
Great video. Cracked me up, especially the silver dude one.
I’m #6. Corporate job during the week, surfing no matter what conditions on weekends. Here in WA, we rarely get good conditions but there’s nothing I’d rather do than surf!
Good stuff!
Also in WA, also got a sweet job + family, but I end up surfing 1/month at most. But I paddle on the lake every week, so….good enough?
@@stiffjalopy4189 I’d say so! 🤙
If you have bad conditions and rarely surf why bother? Should MTB in the PNW anyways….
Still whating for the big waves in Perth Australia 🇦🇺 😎 ha ha ! 😂
Bummer about your neck Brad but so inspirational that you've found a way to keep your stroke alive, share it with us, all while carrying the torch for Bruce Brown but with your own twist. Legend!
Years ago I was surfing Ditch Witch at Montauk and after a session I sat on the beach for a half hour talking to one of the other surfers. After he walked away, my friend ran up and asked "How do you know Jimmy Buffet???"
I didn't even know it was him. He was just a cool surfer and probably liked that he got treated like a regular guy.
All those rented Costco longboards in the lineup at Porto and you don't mention the Kook?
Which one
I’m an old school soul surfer, I actually feel quite intimidated being around the hecticness of short boards.
My husband is the complete opposite of me, loves being barrelled, the bigger the better
Love it man, great observations and keeping it positive 🤙🤙🤙.
Please do more 👍
Brad, you're simply the best! So much appreciation for everything you do.
One of the secret advantages that the Grom ripper has - when you're 4' tall, a 6' face is 2' overhead... And when you weigh 90 lbs. - soaking wet - it's alot easier to glide across the flat spots, and smash the lip on gutless waves... We silver surfers and big wave guys need a little more push to get moving, like that.
"The grom that surfs better than you" lmao. That was basically a personal attack on me!
I resent being called the silver surfer just because I'm 40. I'm kind of the one spot guy. But I do find myself talking to other guys in the line up about the good old days before the spot got crowded. ...shit.
Hahahaha. Happens to all of us.
Don't sweat it bro I'm 55 I go down the mainland Mexico and surf when it's 30 ft and there aren't any kids half my age and want to face those Earth shakers don't matter how old you are just the oldest guy in the biggest tubes
Now now...take pride on our age, fellow silver.
this video was spot on! really enjoyed it. i’m definitely a weekend warrior but also a bit soul and ‘no sticker’.
Love it! I’ve hit most of those categories at some point.
Love your show!
🤙
How about the LATE BLOOMER surfer? Guys who started at age 30+ and have the excitement and intensity of groms, as well as the same occasional lack of awareness. Talk about their daily sessions like they just fell in love with a girl. Truly, like watching kids in middle aged bodies.
I feel represented
That’s me 😂. I’m that one combined with #6.
That's a great one for the "surfers you'll meet" part 2. You're definitely not alone.
@@BradJacobson For sure! You should bring your camera to Erc's about 11:00 Am every saturday and hear us talk about all the life-changing waist high waves we caught!
Yeah those guys are the worst 45-year-old dude who looks like a surf shop threw up on him
i had 2 herniated discs plus retrolisthesis of a vertebrae and surfing was a big part of my healing, so sorry your neck injury took you out of the water - love that you're now filming waves!!
I miss it but I still get out every once in a while.
Great video.. lots of fun watching 🤙
this video made me think of this one old guy who i always see out there, hes gotta be 60 to 70 but he absolutely rips and is super nice
You should get all the different kook types. Some are flat-out kooks with big foamies and others are on shortboards after watching a bunch of surfing youtube videos(they have no idea what they're doing either. There are also the intermediates who just go whenever they feel like it. Surfing isn't the only thing they do but it's a fun hobby that they occasionally partake in, so they're super inconsistent(i fall into this category)
Hahahah you got me on the "groom surfer"!! So freaking true!! Haha i love it though!
thanks bud, great video. love the list idea!
Nice video, refreshing to see some positivity for all different styles and types of surfers. I think 'Silver Surfer' (yes, the hair is silver and I am 40) is the category I fall into. Still get out for a dawn surf when I can, but yes, not as often as I used to. And the breaks are way more crowded than they were 20 years ago :) Whenever I am out on a bigger day and a young grom paddles out I know they are going to rip. So much fun to watch.
Weekend warrior 100 percent!!! I'll probably never been as good as those core guys, but still have a blast pretending I can be ;)
and the swells, for some reason, usually fall on weekdays.
Love it! Thank you!
Right on BJ! Pretty much nailed it! And don't forget the one board guy. He surfs his 5-8 in every thing from 2-12 feet! Even though he has other boards but JJ is riding this model and rips so maybe I can too?
That was a fun video! Self Employed No Sticker CORE.
I have the utmost respect for the guy who is sitting way out the back waiting for the steepest set to come through
'The surfer way out the back' is definitely a type.
Haha Brad , you are funny. Each video makes me laugh 😆
This one’s one of my favourites
I loved that Brad. Very cool. I Guess I fall in the silver surfer category.
What about the dreaded surfing couples? They either argue, coach, rate, or block for each other.
Lots of us silver surfers dawn patrol. It's the home school groms that arrive around 8-9 am where I surf. Kids are never too young to learn priority at competitive breaks. You encourage them to grab those tiny insiders the rest of us can't catch. It's like they have their own little break within a break.
Surfing couples is good! I may have to use that for the next one.
@@BradJacobson Do it. That would also be interesting.
This was so great! Loved it! Just what I needed!
Awesome!
Love this one! Weekend warrior over here!
Covid surfer… you know the ones 😂 your videos are always top, keep ‘em coming!
This was amazing 🙌🏼
I would say I’m a weekend surfer/grom. I live in Valencia and am at school so I don’t have many waves but when there are, I’m there. I picked up surfing last year and have been blown away by the waves!
Keep at it! It only gets better.
Thanks man! Really appreciate it!!
I'm a combo. a silver/weekend surfer.
Started surfing at 30 years old and I'm now 43.
I surfed an average of 1.5 times a week. Meaning once on the weekend and once in the morning before work during the week.
great vid, really enjoyed it, from a 1/6 combo surfer from NJ
Spot on and positive. You surfed this subject with style and grace. Bravo
Thoroughly enjoyed this, Brad! That's saying something to your ability to convey your passion --- as I have never been on a surf board in my life, nor do I ever desire to be on one. But I think I had as much fun "pretend surfing" as your weekend wet warriors did in your video. Great job!!!
Thanks!
Great videos, Keep up the good work!
I’m surrounded by groms that rip. Every 10th wave or so they give me some closeout to surf. These little $hits, I wish I was 1/2 as good as they are. But I’m just happy to be healthy and lucky enough to paddle out and enjoy.
I had a pinched nerve in the neck that too two + years to finally get better. PT, traction, Meds, Accupuncture etc. left arm would go numb, neck was stiff and painful to move, no way could I lift my head or even paddle. I feel for you and hope you can get better too.
Gotta say, didn't expect this to be so spot on....👋🏽🤙🏽
Thanks for the giving the core surfers a shoutout haha no stickers no contests just ripping and being stoked everyday
Cool vid man , love the commentary 🤙from rick Perth, Australia 🇦🇺
Ayeeee some of my favorite spots featured in this video!! Hope to see you at porto
Love the vids! I’m a nj grom myself 😂
Hi brad I absolutely love your vid it makes me so sad you can’t surf anymore but so happy that you found a way to still enjoy the ocean
Thanks! I appreciate it
This was an Awesome video!!!!! Surfing put into prospective. Thank you for filming, sharing, and posting. You are a true Legend Mr. Brad.
Thanks! I appreciate the kind words.
Ahem, Perspective is the word you were looking for I believe
@@jonathanweiss8955 thank you for the correction, this is what happens when a person doesn't proofread 🤣🤣🤣
Great video! Actually plan on getting out and learning to surf this summer! I feel like I would totally fit in with the first group of chill bros.
Surfing sucks, don’t try it
Very PC of you to omit (1) the local a-hole that snakes, fades and burns people on a regular basis because it‘s "his spot", gives you the stink eye for having the audacity of existing in the same place at the same time and breathing the same air; and (2) the instructor/guide that pushes a bunch of "intermediates" into waves they would never be able to catch by themselves, thereby effectively shutting down the place because every single wave has one of the students on it.
is this a bellambi point?????
Very accurate… guilty of #6
Great concept and execution.
Brad u do a great job filming editing and commentary my daughter is a Bruce’s local while I’m that guy that doesn’t sway away from n.side hb pier keep up the great work love ur vids🤙👀
This Video is creative and hilarious
Man i feel your pain! As a santa cruz ex surfer who had to shut it down cuz i had spinal fusion in my neck! Still in santa cruz county tho just training dogs and fishing now! Dig the video
I thought you missed me till you got to the ''one spot surfer'. I was looking for a laugh and got one!
I’m in a different one all together. Grew up in a nice beach break, graduated to a heavy point break , at one point for years was a staple in the local line up , then old age hit started riding a longboard due to injuries and limb replacements, and choose my days to surf only due to over crowding and Costco foam boards surfers. I still live and surf in my home town and have changed my outlook to surfing when the conditions and crowd suit me. I’m still in the water 4 to 5 days a week but never ever on weekends .. doesn’t matter how good the swell train is .. never ever on Saturday or Sunday !!!
You switched to longboards because of injuries..... and limb replacements?
Which limbs did you lose and how?
nice mate, here´s your bloody like from the southest part of the surfing world CHILE
Monthly surfer from Utah. Looks like a kook. Shows up with a Wavestorm and basketball shorts on a decent sized day in cold water. Everyone is nervous I'm going to die, but I end up catching a couple decent sized waves after being caught in the impact zone for 45 minutes. People are left in awe I didn't give up earlier and shocked that I actually caught 3 or 4 decent sized waves.
Brad ...enjoyed this alot..I usually surf 2 hours in morning and hour and half for sunset session..yea I live in Hawaii..there are some real no nonsense surfers here .because conditions are warm water all year ..waves somewhere on island..surf north shore October till Marc..South shore April to September..huge waves 100 days double overhead another 100. And head high rest of the time..you see all types almost exactly like your video here..was awesome
I love old school surfers! They are just so fun to watch! I aspire to be one, I loooovvveee the drop knee turns too like soooo beautiful. But haha loved this list! 😂
Lol,spot on analysis Brad!
Thanks!
Honestly I was surprised with how accurate this is
I’d say I’m a mix of an old school soul surfer, go big surfer (depends on the waves), one spot surfer cause I’m at Linda lane a lot (live right by it) and hopefully getting to the no sticker core surfer. Feels good!
Yeah, I'm silver, a quickly approaching golden territory, but my buddies out west, who are mostly already golden, were all about one spot. They took that daily ride, as far south as possible, without crossing the border. They parked in the same spots everyday at IB, spoke to the same gold+ residents on their daily dog walks, and ate lunch at the same little Mexican joint afterward. I understand a little problem with poopy water, has caused them to change up a bit in recent years. But they had a close-knit little crew of characters there, and that made it a fun spot for me to return to each year.
Ohhhh... "Golden" is a good one.
fun stuff mate :)
dude I am so sorry to hear that you were forced to stop surfing. I would rather die surfing then have to live without it. I wish you the best of luck.
Thanks!
Yes more ! 😄🤙🏾
There’s also the “I’m trying!” Surfer. New to surfing, struggling, trying not to bother the ones who actually know what they’re doing, but will eventually be a nuisance
That was a funny one 😂😂😂
GreatVideo!!!
Thanks!
This video was pretty cool
I’m the “bad omen”. Almost every time I show up, the waves go to shit.
I'm trying really hard to not be #8 but people have started noticing that I'm not in the line up as much as I use to be.
It's the adrenaline and the next thing is difficult for me to explain. I don't like putting my life on the line, but that changes in the water. Something about rough water, big waves and storms just make me feel like a warrior.
Oath. I like to avoid death as much as I can but once i'm in the surf, my mindset changes to if I die, I die. Go hard or go home
Well if you have the big wave surfer, then you also need the small wave surfer. He has a longboard and only surfs the smallest of waves. A one foot day is just perfect for him or her.
Cool that you focused on the positive. 🍻
I would be a every day surfer if I didn’t work ahah so there’s that. And yeah every surfer you talked about I’ve seen ahaha dead on ahaha 💯 💯💯💯
Yesssss another
Ha! I’m essentially a one spot surfer … at the spot he shows when he said it😂
that's cool!
Pretty freakin accurate mate 😂
As someome about to move to a place where i might start surfing, this is a great video to think of who i might see
Thanks and good luck!
Awesome ✊🏿
I resonate with the “Late Bloomer.” I’m 55, 5 ft, 105, semi fit. My 61 yo One Spot Surfer friend taught me & introduced me to the community there. On the first day, his 70 Surfer friend helped me too. I’m forever grateful to him as I was a woman who was afraid of sharks & hardly go to the beach & gettin in the water. He’s right, sitting on a surfboard waiting to catch a wave is so much more cooler & fun than sitting on the beach. I’ve been surfing 17 times. Still working on catching waves, but, my paddling, turn around time have improved a lot. I finally mustered the courage to go on my own to different spots for beginners to improve my techniques better & it encourages me to learn how to read the surf reports.
You forgot the somewhat old geezer with arthritis who can no longer pop up so we ride a 'boogie' board and still feel like we're Laird Hamilton as we tackle a mega 3 footer! 😉
Actually Saw Jordy Smith surfing @ Strand in Cape Town. One of the local spots
Good vid. !
Thanks!
1 spot surfer here... altough i sometimes surf other spots too though. But usually the same peer, one side or the other, depending on the swell.
this was hella accurate! lol
I was watching thinking holy shite this is spot on and then see the last clip of you and the camera at Porto…no wonder hah
Missed:
1. Surf instructor, with student in the critical section
2. A-hole "local" who moved to that break 2 years ago and now thinks they own it. They paddle for every wave but usually don't make the section. Also known to drop in on you and then get pissed at you for getting in their way
3. The loud talker who seems to be best buds with everyone in the lineup. Loves to talk about how good trestles was yesterday and how he has a friend who was friends with [fill in the blank]
4. College surf class of 20+ first time beginners who paddle right to the main peak
5. Super cool guy or gal, usually by themselves, who is totally positive, shares waves, and is just stoked to be out enjoying the sun and waves
the grom that surfs better than you. THATS LITERALLY ME
Soooo sick nice video
Thanks!!
Subd...good stuff
Guy with his leash around his knee that wears it from the parking lot all the way to the water with his hot water bottles and changing robe in the parking lot the shower grip traction pad is ugg boots in early August
