    I find it weird that there are characters representing all different ways to asaassinate a target. Magic is represented by Festus Krex and Gabriel, sneaky-stabby is represented by Astred, Nazir, and Veezara, brute force by Arnbjorn, Cicero represents mutilation, and Babette represents luring and deception. No characters seem to represent/utilize Archery, which is a very valid way of sneakily dispatching a target. I always like to be the Archer of the group whenever I play the Dark Brotherhood questline

    There is also the fact Cicero is the last true assassin following the tenants, which is why he hates Astrid as she doesn't.
    Edit:
    I know a lot of players hate him or kill him because they find him annoying, but he is literally the last true Brotherhood member, the rest carry the name but aren't following the tenants. Cicero just has gone crazy waiting for the traditions he held dear to be carried out while he watched the family he had come to know fall apart. This is also why the Spectral Assassin notes Sethis doesn't want him dead, Astrid in particular broke most of the tenants, if not all of them in the course of the questline. In contrast she is very much an assassin, but she uses the name fo the Brotherhood just as a name.
    If you kill Cicero, you kill the last piece of honour the Brotherhood of had up until that point, and in turn you end up being no better then Astrid at that point. The only thing killing him does is remove him as a follower possibility and you don't even have to take him, he can hangout at their second lair without you ever using him. Cicero is not a man who deserves death in the end.

    Honorable mention: If you have a high pickpocket skill, you can pickpocket weapons off people that they currently have equipped. Well, if you have that perk when you do the initiation quest with Astrid in the Abandoned Shack, you can pickpocket the Blade of Woe off her. Then you can go through the Dark Brotherhood questline as normal, and when it comes time to murder her to death in the storyline, she'll bequeath you a SECOND Blade of Woe, and now you can dual-wield those daggers or give one to your companion!

      Fair point. It's just that a "mare" is a female horse, which is why I'd've gone with that, but yeah, not at all an error on Nate's part, cus it IS spelled "mere," in-game. :)

    • @neoqwerty
      @neoqwerty Před 6 lety +62

      Jesse H.
      Lucien Lachance says ShadowMEER in both Oblivion and Skyrim, and Shadowmere is referred to as both a stallion and a mare inconsistently, so it's likely not actually a mare.
      Also, in Middle English, "mere" meant "pure"-- a horse made of pure shadows, which appears out of a a pool of bubbling black water? Alternatively, a mere is a lake, and again, Shadowmere does emerge from a pool of shadows.
      (The Void is described as the "black waters of Oblivion" in Battlespire and Shivering Isles dialogue with Nocturnals and Mazken and Aureals, to tie it a bit further to Sithis, and also Shadowmere is either unkillable or keeps reforming, depending on the game.)
      /nerding over Daedric and Sithian lore over for now

    On your first subject about the morag tong, i thought you were going to mention something i found today in a book while exploring, about the morag tong and the brotherhood. In the book it talked about their descrepencies and what caused the downfall and outlawing of the morag tong everywhere except morrowind, and it also mentioned their renouncement and assassination of mephala. Well, at the end on the book it was saying that though the brotherhood branched off from the morag tong in creation by following in sithis, there was one thing that differed the two and caused the morag tong to not be associated with the dark brotherhood, the nightmother. Whom, is, none other than, mephala. So that caused me to come to the realization that the body that cicero carries and you have the glory of having enter your sanctuary is the assassinated body of mephala. Which should explain why her body is always portrayed bound and unkempt, instead of well preserved as she should be had she died naturally. Check out my theory for me please and see if you can find anything else referencing to it. I would love to hear your feed back

    Lucien isn't talking about the Pentilous guards murdering the group. He is basically saying that the sanctuary is shit and would probably be better to kill everyone in a Purification. In Oblivion, you actually take part in a Purification due to your sanctuary possibly harboring a traitor who's very presence dishonors the Brotherhood. Lucien is basically saying that the modern Brotherhood dishonors the true one and a good Purification would probably help it. Also, on the last video, Lucien himself killed Matthew's mother, something you didn't mention oddly enough.

    So really, we've become the thumb of the black hand by becoming the Listener of the Dark Brotherhood, and if we choose to have one of the initiates follow us, that recruit could potentially serve as our Silencer temporarily while we move throughout Skyrim while they're following us. The real question is, would there be a chance that the 4 remaining slots become with new Speakers at some point (of screen of course, since it doesn't happen in game), potentially Babette and Nazir filling two of them?

    • @nocturnecz3965
      @nocturnecz3965 Před 6 lety

      As a Speaker's main job is to take care of a sanctuary (mainly recruiting people) and to go on contracts so the Listener doesn't have to and can just stay in a safe place where they won't be killed (although that's more for the Silencers, the Speakers just redistribute the contracts if I understand it correctly), yes, the spots are going to be filled someday, but only after the Brotherhood expands enough. At this point only one Speaker is needed, since there's only one sanctuary.

  • @marystone860
    @marystone860 Před 5 lety +1

    When I do the Dark Brotherhood quests, I've been taking a "Black Widow" approach. Even I appear the worst and most evil people you may come across, I use their skills and resources for my ends and to actually do good in the world, taking out those who deserves it, when the "usual methods" failed, to enact justice while using the blackest methods known. Like when Black Widow does the same using what she has learned to prevent something worse happening. She feels what she is doing is the right thing, regardless what the rest of the world thinks otherwise. Like when I do the Dark Brotherhood questline, I wield darkness and death itself to combat true evil. Under the Dragonborn's leadership, they can rise to unprecented heights and become the most feared and powerful organization in Skyrim, maybe in all of Tameriel. Like, if the Dragonborn took over the Volkahar clan, the castle would make a GREAT home for them. Also, they would have a whole clan of vampires to back them up if needed. Because even them led like this, it's still better than Harkon.

    4 years late but that never stopped me. If you read the Jester's jornals you get a very sad and rather harrowing tale that mentions exactly what happened to the Black Hand, the names of the last members of the Black Hand and so on.
    Looking at the survivers in Dawnstar you kinda of do have the Black hand starting to reform. You the listener as the thumb, and then Nazir and Babbette as speakers who have two silencers.
    Cicero is the Keeper whose role after the Listener appears is seemingly to be the Listener's Silencer.
    While the hand is crippled and missing two fingers, it is back.
    One interesting thing is that the Nazir and Babbette are the two who speak the most. Nazir hands out contracts and Babbette sells potions. Both offer training.
    After reading the journals and then asking each member about Astrid and what they think of Cicero really highlights that our Jester friend was never all that crazy, was very much in the right as far as the Brotherhood is concerned... and Astrid was a power hungry crazy person.
    The most sad deaths become the Argonian and Fester who were the most willing to return to the old ways. Cicero even feels remorse at hurting the shadow scale.
