Congratulations, you managed to answer Laura's question about why the Greens don't get equal coverage with Reform without mentioning the Greens!

So much free publicity for Reform and the constant presence really put them much further up the ballot. Green issues are as important to the voters if not more so but the party with the most to say are derided and ignored in the same media.

The caller wasn't saying never talk about Reform, just that spending so much time talking about them is silly. I watched the C4 coverage of the election results and Reform was talked about more than Labour.

The election has demonstrated that the UK is still a civilised liberal democracy despite the worst excesses of certain politicians.

I had the exact opposte reaction to the gracious, honest generosity around the transfer of power (the handover of governmental power but also the winning/losing candidate speeches on election night). I thought it was really dispiriting.
Dispririting precisely because there was _such_ a noticeable inflection point at 10pm on election night, and how sharp the contrast was compared to the behaviour from the _exact_ same set of people immediately before that point. The reason it is so dispiriting is that it sharply highlights that dishonourable and unscrupulous behaviour is obviously not seen as inherently immoral and to be avoided by our politicians. It's obvious that they view the fight for power as overruling any such concerns, excusing such behaviour, and only when that process is over will they worry about it.
It's kind of like when, in response to the accusation that they're doing something immoral, someone says: "But that's my job. It's what I get paid to do!" If you're getting rewarded to do something potentially immoral (whether monetarily, or in this case with political power) that doesn't excuse it: it makes it worse!

There is a gap though that right leaning parties only got 38% of the vote share versus more progressive or left leaning getting 56% of the vote so its clear what we prefer but there aren't as many options for the right which is why I get its a bigger story to follow. Unfortunately context and nuance in modern media is lost unless on podcasts now.
