Congratulations, you managed to answer Laura's question about why the Greens don't get equal coverage with Reform without mentioning the Greens!
So much free publicity for Reform and the constant presence really put them much further up the ballot. Green issues are as important to the voters if not more so but the party with the most to say are derided and ignored in the same media.
The caller wasn't saying never talk about Reform, just that spending so much time talking about them is silly. I watched the C4 coverage of the election results and Reform was talked about more than Labour.
The election has demonstrated that the UK is still a civilised liberal democracy despite the worst excesses of certain politicians.
Fewer than 48% of 18-25s voted.
"Why do journalists give so much more oxygen and airtime to Reform, despite the Greens getting just as many seats?"
Proceeds to talk almost entirely about Reform for 5 minutes...
There isnt an equal load mouth on the left.
Seeming bias towards the left…
Yes I thought that too. They hardly mentioned the greens at all.
The represent the bogeyman.
Used to scare the children.
Reform had 3rd highest vote share
I hate it when you drop Jon down the sofa and you can't find him
The Lib Dem were proportionally represented. It’s just everyone else wasn’t
As they said they had very much managed to work out how to play this game didn’t they?
Of course they shouldn’t have to do this, and neither should any other party.
In fact, despite doing so well, the Lib Dems are still under-represented... As are voters who voted for them.
It's just not as bad as usual.
Truss gave the best concession speech imo.
Silence is golden.
She looked like someone standing to receive a sentence.
@@dannyquinn9128it certainly is as far as she’s concerned. Maybe she should have been more silent when she was in politics.
Great conversation. I could listen for hours.
Totally 💯

How much of the reduced turnout at the general election can be put down to the new Photo id requirements?
I had the exact opposte reaction to the gracious, honest generosity around the transfer of power (the handover of governmental power but also the winning/losing candidate speeches on election night). I thought it was really dispiriting.
Dispririting precisely because there was _such_ a noticeable inflection point at 10pm on election night, and how sharp the contrast was compared to the behaviour from the _exact_ same set of people immediately before that point. The reason it is so dispiriting is that it sharply highlights that dishonourable and unscrupulous behaviour is obviously not seen as inherently immoral and to be avoided by our politicians. It's obvious that they view the fight for power as overruling any such concerns, excusing such behaviour, and only when that process is over will they worry about it.
It's kind of like when, in response to the accusation that they're doing something immoral, someone says: "But that's my job. It's what I get paid to do!" If you're getting rewarded to do something potentially immoral (whether monetarily, or in this case with political power) that doesn't excuse it: it makes it worse!
I like the Q&As. Altho agitated Maitlis is always entertainment.
The irony of the response to the LD and Green successes where 99% of the answer was about Reform….
Sorry to be a pedant but the new Timpson minister is the brother, not the father, of the Tory Timpson. Their parents fostered 90 kids when they were growing up. Love the podcast which I learn a lot from. 🙂
'Overton Window' - hurrah!
It's definitely rose tinted
There is a gap though that right leaning parties only got 38% of the vote share versus more progressive or left leaning getting 56% of the vote so its clear what we prefer but there aren't as many options for the right which is why I get its a bigger story to follow. Unfortunately context and nuance in modern media is lost unless on podcasts now.
I'm sure Jon was away interviewing Tony Blair recently
Rees Mogg !!!!! New job, The next Presenter/Exhibit at the Antiques Roadshow.😂😂
Hilarious how The Rest is Entertainment coincidentally did discuss what politicians will do what reality shows.

The question isn't about covering Farage & Co it is about the disproportionate coverage
I think post election, majestic, honourable even can be used to describe the behaviour. The behaviour before the results though by the those losing power = excruciating, embarrassing, desperate etc.
So, Truss slumped out of power. Johnson ran away and did not stand. Braverman just wanted to big herself up. These are examples of bad losers (and winners)
Are you guys gonna put a bet on the date of the next election? :-)
"There are no other political podcasts. There are no other political podcasts..."
Except for Coco and Nish. You may have the edge over them on political insights, but they're winning when it comes to the creative use of obscenities. Up your game, The News Agents!
I think it was a bit of a jab at The Rest is Politics, which is the UKs biggest political podcast over the last few years, by referencing the rest is entertainment. Plus Emily hosted election night with Rory and Alistair.
I resent the implication that there is no reason for a trip to Manchester that is worth asking Jon about.
;)
Won’t most ex-Tory MPs be lining up directorships?
You could run a book on how many there will be, and who will get the most.
18:36 his son?! 😂
Regardless of the economy ; Starmer with his legal background : can he call to account corporate corruption in Free Ports , Covid PPI , Thames Water using investment funds to pay executives and shareholders dividends , the Post Office and even massive profits of British Gas ; when fuel wholesale prices are so low .
Does anywone know how/where we can send our questions in?
Laura is Kay Burley
this why usa needs multiparty democracy. not a twoparty state
Jesus wept, you've ignored the Greens in answering a question about the Greens, instead talking only about Lib Dems and mainly Reform.

TRIP, ahem (the 'premium offering') :even with my username :-)
The Rest Is Politics-Alaister Campbell and Rory Stewart …Brilliant ALSO
@@martinamckeown.4936 Campbell is thoroughly unpleasant.
People like Ashworth and Baker were not gracious at all im afraid
lets face it even x tory mps are more presentable than the likes of Marjorie Taylor Green and Bobert . They are at least literate .

Please get on with it.
Laura made a great point which you should have expressed earlier.
Media loves Farage cos views.
Essentially, you troll for views.
I love the smell of post-election hubris. It reminds me of crushing disappointment.
Who on earth thinks tkat Hoyle deserved to be re-elelcted as Speaker? Utterly useless - but maybe that's just me 🤷♂️ 24:20
Emily Maitlis..... DISGRACEFUL JOURNALISM 😢
I think it's lazy journalism from the lot of you. It's sad and dangerous. It will change when people stop listening to you and you start losing followers.
The News Agents team: simply the best. It is a huge pleasure to hear their insightful and considered analysis. 😍🫂
