    This is actually one of the songs with the deepest meaning and message, at first listen its hard to get the references bc its so catchy but basically its a criticism of the music industry where composers and the people that work on a song dont get any recognition and get paid shit thus the reference of "0.003" the amount of money they receive from each stream on spotify, the "call Universal youre about to be star" cuz its the most predominant record label in the world, "Edgar cannot pay rent for me" which shows the difficulty of making a living out of this and so on 😅

  • @egesucu
    @egesucu Před rokem +99

    There are underlying issues they're trying to address without being too serious. 1) Ghost, lyricist = ghostwriters. 2) dressing like a man = men are looked upon to sell their lyrics to artists better than women 3) 0.003 Spotify revenue per stream. 2 years to buy a meal is coming from that low income. 4) edgar can't pay even his rents properly bc he was earning very low as an artist. Their voices are so much better than the pia issue last year anyway

  • @youniesch
    @youniesch Před rokem +88

    It's meant to be criticism about how low the earnings of song writers are in these days. But I wouldn't have guessed that after hearing the first time. 😅

    • @Scheherasad
      @Scheherasad Před rokem +8

      I did know that streaming services like e.g. Spotify pay only 0,003 Euro/Dollar per stream so from that lyric on I did understand what the song was about

  • @theguy2503
    @theguy2503 Před rokem +25

    A bloddy brilliant mix of catchiness and deep lyrics.
    There is a ghost in my body is a reference to ghostwriting in the music industry and how that affects songwriters.
    The 'Who the Hell is..." is referring to when people don't know who made the song because they aren't big-time artists.
    The 0.003 is a reference to the Spotify cut per stream
    The Pay rent for me, gas station Champaign, gimme 2 years, and your dinner will be free also talking about how hard it is to survive as a songwriter.
    The reason why they choose Edgar Allen Poe, Teya talked about how they saw something which mentioned how he was the first American writer to live on a writer's income and therefore struggle to make a living

    For me it's a winner in disguise, if an act can take the title from Sweden and Finland right now, it's Austria. The song is catchy enough to grab the televote sympathy and the song is so well put together with a highlight relatable topic for any member of the jury panel that would be impossible to them not to vote it, just for that. The lyrics is genius, the sounds are great and their voices are so playful yet well performed blended together. I see Austria strong enough for a top5, top3 and even be the winner in disguise.

    • @tuures.5167
      @tuures.5167 Před rokem +3

      Agreed. I think Austria is the "black horse" in this year's competition, and will surprise many people with how high it places, and Armenia will be the "sleeper hit", that is, a song that will not perform all that well in the competition but will be a massive hit afterwards.

  • @sus1221

    Absolutely adore this song. The words are cohesive, melody is catchy, and vocalists are talented. Plus there's a fun dance! It just nails it on multiple levels for exactly what I want in an Eurovision song.
    Also, I NEED an Eurovision/Baltimore Ravens mascot crossover for this song. I feel like the Raven's mascot Poe could really nail the dance. Or if Poe's not available, would settle for one of the other mascots, Edgar or Allan.

    .. I am bit suprised that no 1 here got the deepth meaning of this song .... 🙄 although all are native speakers - the whole video is as well pretty symbolic...eg. when teya was counting.. 0.003... for the little payment songwriters get for streaming... like woman that have to wear a moustache in the pretty male dominated music biz.... ghost in my body... stands for the ghostwriting in the music biz.... and its by far not at all a joke entry... FYI:) Teya and Salena reacted to many reaction videos...

    It's smart joke entry for people who read Edgar Allan Poe's books. He wrote poetry also, that's why he's "lyricist". I love the song because has all the black and weird stuff of Edgar Allan Poe's style.

    "So, I'll break this down
    "There's a ghost in my body and he is a lyricist"
    "Oh Mia Padre, There's a ghost in my body"
    They are taking a shot at the industry. Alot of artist's today will use Ghostwriters who will produce or write music and get a little amount in revenue whilst the artist gets a decent cut for performing it. They also use their song as a way to demonstrate this. In today's industry, you could make the most meaningful song but cover it with Electro or dance and bam... It's a worldwide hit and people miss the actual meaning. So, they did the same by making this fun, quirky pop track that you miss the actual meaning behind the song.
    "What's your IPI? Where's the A&R?
    Girl, call Universal, you're about to be a star"
    IPI is a digital barcode that a A&R team recieve when content is made. It determines how much royalty the Producer, Writer, Artist and Label will receive. In most cases, again, the producer and label receive the most whilst the songwriter and artist receive hardly anything. They take a shot at Universal Music group as they are known to take MASSIVE chunks from artists and also not give their artist's any creative control over their music or sound. It's sarcasm. You'll become a star and be rich, but it'll come at a price, basically!
    "Zero dot zero zero three
    Give me two years, and your dinner will be free"
    Most streaming sites will pay a artist 0.003 in revenue every stream. This lyric actually hits so hard. All they could afford is cheap champagne and after two years, they'd finally make a small profit. Unless you're a massive artist pulling in millions of plays each month, you will hardly see a profit from your song and will have to wait a few years before you can just about afford a meal. It's a strong message to display just how much the industry and streaming sites do not value the work or content of hard working artists. This is why she then says "At least it pays to be funny". Comedians make more money than hard working songwriters and artists!! Let that sink in.
    In the second half of the video, they dress up as men delivering the song to a board of record executives. This is because men's work is often listened to more and released whilst women's hard work goes unnoticed or unfavoured. You then see them get arrested for impersonation and taken to prison. This is because they are trying to display the message, it would be so much easier to be a man in the industry than be a woman. VERY CLEVER what they did there.
    This song is ART. It's not even a song at this point. It deserves recognition for how amazing it is. It's such a fun, quirky song with such a deep and powerful message. I hope Europe research it because I NEED Them to understand. It's not a joke entry and this deserves a final place 😭
    I hope this helps to anyone reading and you can now fully appreciate this masterpiece even more!!!
    Lots of love x

    If I could add to that. Edgar Allan Poe was the first (american) author who tried to live from his art. He was short on money all of his life.

    Like, ok, this is a fun song, but it has more deep meaning than a lot of the serious efforts this year, which I find it to be the perfect combo

    • @theguy2503
      @theguy2503 Před rokem +10

      they called it a joke entry at the start of the video based purely on the title in their predictions before hearing the song, give them a chance they hadn't heard the song.
      And when it was addressed after they heard the song, Bekah correctly stirred it away from that calling it a tongue-in-cheek song, also I think a large majority of the first-time listeners completely missed the depth of the lyrics and were transfixed by how catchy the song was, if you got the lyrics and the depth of them well done, but not everyone would have, and if they didn't it's okay
