  • Grab a beverage and settle in! We spent an afternoon with the team at Nimbl Vehicles in Colfax, CA and learned more about their philosophy and approach to building a highly capable and highly efficient long term overland truck. The tl;dr - Buy once. Cry once. Make small upgrades along the way.
    The Big Beats:
    The Basics 4:18
    The Aluminum Box 8:32
    The Plumbing 11:50
    The Electronics 13:02
    The Interior 14:33
    The Settee & Kitchen 17:29
    The Bed 20:22
    The Bathroom 22:12
    The Lighting and Gadgets 26:18
    The Wrap Up 30:03
    The Nimbl team builds vehicle platforms and habitats meant to go the distance in both mileage and time. Their goal is to get you set up with a habitat you love and then they continue to work with you to maintain and upgrade your overland build for years and years to come.
    These builds can easily run $250K+ all-in. If you're looking for a complete build to full-time travel in that's somewhere between RV and EarthRoamer, and has much more flexibility and maneuverability, this is a viable contender.
    Thank you to Adam, Judd, Jocelyn and the Nimbl team for hosting us! Learn more about Nimbl here: www.nimblvehicles.com/

    What I like about it most. Low profile. Light. Fast lift! The inside is beautiful and I mean beautiful from windows to electric burner, sink, Fridge, microwave, out lets, excellent bedding, excellent, just about everything. What I don't..... For the money your asking you guys should work on engineering hard walls instead of the tent material. I don't care what's its made of. I want silence when I sleep at night and that isn't happening with tent material. Also for insulation purposes Hard insulated walls greatly increases comfort levels much easier. Remember we sleep there at night and in cold temps it gets cold in tent material no matter the extra lining insulation. Final gripe being that I can't configure it. These are my opinions. I still love the look and if if had those changes I just might make the jump because one thing for sure is, Everything is Quality!

    Exceptional vehicle for sure! The price......... I have to believe that locating this fabrication business in northern California, arguably the most expensive place to live and work in the US, causes the price to inflate dramatically. After all, this is the land of +$1MM for 900 sq.ft. homes, for God's sake! Perhaps people in Cali are accustomed to paying such prices for things. But those of us who live in so-called "fly-over" states (i.e. the majority of the rest of the country) are accustomed to a completely different economic value expectation. Yes, top shelf quality comes at a premium. But birthing these projects in such a high rent district assures that only the most well healed clients can afford it.
    That said, it truly is a remarkable build.
    As always, thanks much for sharing.
    Steve

      Not all of CA is one big sticker price. $1M 900 sq ft homes is absolutely true in the core Bay Area cities. But travel two hours east and cost of living and industry decreases considerably. (The cost of a 1100 sq ft 3bd 2bth home near their shop is $350K. I mention because it’s easy to assume the entire state suffers from Bay Area price tags, and it isn’t accurate.)
      Regardless, yes they do all the work and employ an awesome team, and the quality is second to none, but they aren’t doing it in a region of CA that is suffering from explosive sq ft and manufacturing costs.

    I looked at one of these last week at the Expo. Very cool design. But to say they're redefining overlanding when this product has such a limited scope of buyers is false. Earthroamer has been around for 15+ years now, and I see maybe 2-3 a year out and about camping.

    • @bradsimpson8724
      @bradsimpson8724 Před rokem

      Earthroamers also start at $750K. This is a third of that. And due to being a more manageably-sized, reasonably-weighted machine than an Earthroamer(all that luxury isn't light), you'd be 1) more likely to see these in the backcountry than an Earthroamer, and 2) less likely to see them out year-round outside of semi-tropical climates, because the insulation value is so much less.
      I agree, this thing definitely isn't redefining anything. But Earthroamer is a pretty poor cgoice of comparison; they are vastly different machines.

    The pricing is insane. 250k base price?
    The overland tax is strong with this one.

    • @OverlandBound
      @OverlandBound  Před rokem +7

      It’s interesting how quality gets dismissed and labeled as “overland tax”. It’s expert craftsmanship with top of the line gear and accessories made by employees in the US who love what they do. This is what it costs to make a high quality expedition truck. There is no artificial markup because of the word overland.

    • @jimyeats
      @jimyeats Před rokem +11

      @@OverlandBound No argument that it’s quality. No argument it’s an awesome rig. Price is crazy.
      I built a beautiful home and bought 20 acres of land for less than 250k dollars. There just comes a point where a truck and a camper on the back - regardless of quality - should never cost 250k (for the base model).
      Edit: I guess my point is that making a nice rig for this price isn’t redefining anything. Charging this amount and banking you’ll find a number people each year with enough money to sink into a depreciating asset is being done by lots of companies out there in this niche.

    • @OverlandBound
      @OverlandBound  Před rokem +2

      @@jimyeats if something costs $1MM to make and the seller charges $1.1MM it’s not crazy. I think it’s totally fair to say “I would never pay that”, but too expensive is a matter of perspective. Personally, I am not in the market for a $250k vehicle either, but I like to see small businesses charge what they need to in order to pay their people and provide competitive salaries. I root for small business (not implying you don’t at all).
