- In 1900, lumberman Jim Fallon (Kirk Douglas) greedily eyes the big sequoia redwood trees in the virgin region of northern California. The land is already settled by, among others, a religious group led by Elder Bixby (Charles Meredith) who have a religious relationship with the redwoods and refuse to log them, using other smaller trees for lumber. Jim becomes infatuated with Bixby's daughter, Alicia (Eve Miller), though that does not change his plan to cheat the homesteaders. When Jim's right-hand man, Yukon Burns (Edgar Buchanan) finds out, he changes sides and leads the locals in resisting Jim. The locals combat Jim's loggers with a sympathetic judge with Jim fighting back by using Federal laws.
Elder Bixby is killed when a big sequoia tree is chopped down by Jim's men and falls on his cabin. Jim's desperate attempt to rescue Alicia's father saves him from being convicted of murder. Meanwhile, timber rival Cleve Gregg (Harry Cording) appears on the scene, making it a three-way fight. Gregg and his partner Frenchy LeCroix (John Archer) try to assassinate Jim, but end up killing Yukon instead. Jim has a dramatic change of heart and leads the settlers in defeating Gregg and Frenchy. Afterwards, Jim marries Alicia and settles down.

The Redwood Forest is the only reason I'd ever go back to California. It really is a beautiful place.
"well me also😅 ❤.-&-"no further south whatsoever 😂❤💟🙆💫💖🌠🌠📻💝💛🎶.
Man, there is some beautiful footage in these old westerns.
The movies used great film(s) that held their quality
So gorgeous
💜🪵🏞️💖💫🙆💟🌲
Alln A. McHne... Loves this beautiful movie.
Its utterly amazing that the mountain ash eucalyptus trees of Tasmania grow as tall as redwoods and sequoia trees in only 400 years and redwoods grow rapidly. In New Zealand the preferred timber tree is Monterey Pine trees. Without wind they grow straight and fast.
I love western movies.
Ole Jim Smiley! LOLOL Love it!!
I loved this movie very much
The problem with cutting the redwoods was discovered quite quickly. When they hit the ground they splintered into shingles, which was all they were good for. The wood simply could not be made into boards for building. That's why so many of those old trees survive, they stopped cutting them.
You need to research a bit more before believing your own words there, which are completely false. The old growth Redwood was so saught after because it is extremely strong, the houses built here in Mendocino with it are the ones still standing a hundred years later, the best shingles, no bug or pest can chew through it's density.
That strikes me as funny because Pacific Lumber Company would have went out of business quickly if that was the case. The only reason they went out of business because of the Spotted Owl craziness. I know I am from Humboldt County.
This is not true
Looks like the nays have it.
The big sky with Kirk great movie two
Great movie
The quote in the film ""God helps those who help themselves" is not in the Bible.
YOU ARE RIGHT--IT WAS SAID BY BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, IN "POOR RICHARD"S ALMANAC".
just the spitting image of his son.
Damm I just did the maths, and according to his tombstone, Lucky was only 46 yrs old!!
What a Great Movie this was to watch & the beautiful Natures Giant Redwood Trees etc.
One of my favorite movies.
Turned out better than I thought it would be
Movies of wild trees and human beings not super natural. Madness.
It is the giant Sequoias (Sequoiadendron giganteum) that are only good for fence posts. Coast redwoods (Sequoia sempervirens) is one of the greatest woods in the world. Can't fault Michael Fleming for being a little confused.
OK but they make good persaters too🌙🌛🌒
correct - the sequoia sempervirens are often a little taller
I wanted to go to this the estate of Edgar Rice Burroughs , Tarzana California. But learned that he partitioned it out over time..
Wonderful film.
Always a big Fan of Kurt Douglas Movies, He really plays a good BS Artist in this one etc.
The storyline of this Film makes me nauseous! There really were men rotten enough to cut down trees that were over 2000 years old! You know they went after the largest and oldest trees they could find!!! Just a sickening thought!!! 🤢🤮😢😭
RIP Big Kirk"✨
Love Kirk Douglas balancing on those logs on a moving train
One of the Best
Great flick, thanks for posting. What better way for a man of faith to die than defending his property with Bible in hand? (59:00). Best line? 1:24:30, "Don't move, the hand of judgement is upon thee."
I first saw this movie in the Greentree drive-in with my best friend, Jimmy McNight.
Redwood were so high that they keep the soil damp preventing fire 🔥 but they chopped down
wonderful movie ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Kirk Douglas said this was the worst movie he ever made when he was on Dick Cavett's show.
hahahahah thats why i am here!!!!!!!
Kirk Douglas raped Natalie Wood bad. Robert Wagner wanted to kill him. Hollywood kept that quiet!!
Wow, that is an old movie! KIrk Douglas was young. Most everyone in this movie is dead.
Kirk still lives by golly and just turned 103!
Sweet movie! Kirk Douglas was a god!

I wonder if the location Tall Trees from Red Dead Redemption was named after this
As a Kid I called these Trees. Gods Skyscrapers.
The sequoia trees are the biggest trees in the world and the people of the time cut them or down and they were big trees that belonged to the world
It's kind of sad that in today's world the sadness of greed in life.

I'd like to comment on the comments, but I won't. Forgive for being rather crass, but frankly, the movies of long ago were jewels: not the fuckin bullshit and garbage that today has degenerated into. Just sayin.
✔️✔️✔️ and the beautiful music too❤
And people have also degenerated into using foul language at every opportunity, even in video comments that are supposed to be respectful of others.
S P O I L E R A L E R T The synopsis given above is more than a brief overview. It will tell you the movie plot and spoil any suspense the movie may hold. I do not recommend you read it unless you want to skip the movie anyway.

I despise swindlers and flim-flam artists, even if they are kirk douglas. After 10 minutes of this, I almost puked!
"On a
