@@erinjohnson1124 I was a gymnast and reached level ten before an injury (and later diagnosis of Ehlers Danlos Syndrome) took me out of the sport, but I have always watched both junior and senior gymnasts, and I KNEW she was something special the first time I saw her… and I wholeheartedly agree with you, she is the best to work the beam, and thus we call her “The Queen of Beam.” 😁

I fell in love with the Olympics when I was 7. The colors, the flags, the anthems, the pageantry, the excitement and spectacle of the events was awesome. I remember my parents telling me how the world stopped for two weeks, every four years, and came together just to party, and play sports. It was the coolest thing I'd heard of in my life. It was 1972.
Those were the Olympics of Mark Spitz who set all the records that Michael Phelps broke, and Olga Korbut who did a backbend and smiled at the world, from between her ankles; and put Gymnastics on the world map forever. That next summer half the kids in America were in gymnastics classes, including my sister and myself (the rest were in the pool). Four years later came Nadia and the ten, but the only reason anyone in America noticed or cared was; Olga. I am not built to be a gymnast, but learning to tumble has saved me many injuries over the years, and helped with all the other sports I tried. That Olympics was the most perfect and beautiful thing ever; until it wasn't.
I was watching when Jim McKay told us all what was happening to the Israeli team. I saw it unfold on live TV. They hadn't yet learned not to show that kind of thing live, so they did. I will never forget his words, "They are all gone..." That stunned the world. Nothing has ever been the same. I learned a lot about life, and the world that fortnight. That was the 9/11 of my generation.
I am now fifty nine. I still have an abiding life-long love of the Olympics, and still believe deeply in its ideals. Something in my heart responds whenever the flame burns, and my friends and family know they will not see me for those two weeks, I watch it all. I will never, ever, forgive those who profaned the best, most beautiful thing in the world.
As for Paris, my favorite new sport these days is Sport Climbing. I fell in love with it at the last games, and have been hooked ever since. My favorite athlete going in to the games is climber Brooke Raboutou. Janja Garbret, of Slovenia is the best in the world, and watching her climb is poetry. There is a true and obvious sense of community and comradery in the sport. If I had a little one around, that is the sport and the athletes I would be sure to show her, then take her out to try.

I started gymnastics when I was three years old but I stopped competing in high school when my coach wanted me to make gymnastics my career. Shawn, you did an incredible job at the Olympics and I am sure that no matter what your incredible children choose to do with their lives, they will make this world a better place. 💗

Love it! I have enjoyed the Olympics so much since I was 6 years old. Nowadays, I´m 54 and I expect this event with the same emotion and happiness. My favorite sport is women´s artistic gymnastics of course. Thank you. Infinite love and blessings always dear Shawn, Drew, and the East boys.
Our oldest child was born the day Nastia and Shawn competed in the all around in Beijing in 2008. She was a competitive gymnast up to Level 4 & now is a competitive swimmer.

Hey Drew, I am binge watching your family channel today, and I was so inspired by how many hobbies both you and your husband have, and how many of them you carried to the competitive realm, even if just to push your limits and reach greater proficiency. I am 22 and lately, feeling too old for any of my hobbies, money and distance is also an issue, but I just got this surge of inspiration to sign up again, to sports and art, and to give it my all 😊 thank you!

I've always loved the Olympics. You get to see sports not normally shown or shown frequently on TV. Nice promo video...except jousting but we all make little boo boos. (I used to fence.) Jousting might be fun to see at the Olympics!

“So many sports!” We lost baseball in 2008, though it came back in 2021 (2020) and will be back not this year, but the next one in 2028

Yet there are so many sports to include like Cricket or those that require mind, body & spirit like Chess... but of course progress and inclusion is always fraught with bias and hypocrisy.

i cant believe shawn said jousting and showed fencing which is in the olympics. Jousting is a medieval sport where they hit eachother with sticks on a horse
