Surfer Girl (Brian Wilson)

  • This is from the October, 2000 Carl Wilson Foundation fundraiser/concert in Malibu, CA. Brian Wilson and his band were the featured performers that year. While apparently a bad monitor mix resulted in a somewhat shaky vocal performance by the band, it's still notable because Brian handles bass guitar duties on the song. A rather rare occurrence in his solo career.

I never understood that Brian Wilson was the leader and genius behind their music. But thanks to You Tube I have seen Brian in action producing their music in the studios and now I listen to the beach Boys with a whole new lever of appreciation . Thank You Brian, Long may you live!

@john loughlin - The Beach Boys is a group. . Brian is the largest piece but all contributed in their own way making the sum greater than the individual parts. The harmonizing, lyrics and studio work are what made the group AWESOME. Brian did not do all that himself. His work in the studio is what , in my opinion, make him the genius that he is.

Scott Bennett, don't be too hard on yourselves. I'm a bit fed up of watching groups "live" on CZcams and they're miming to their own music so to me and I'm sure many others, it's a real treat to hear something like this that is truly live, even if it isn't as polished as the studio version. To those critics that gave this video the thumbs down, try to be a bit kind and if you could do better, I'd sure like to hear it.

+Scott Bennett I was reluctant to post this video because, like Scott says, this is not at all indicative of their usual impeccable vocal performances. I just thought Brian seemed particularly relaxed and sounding great, and thought it was cool and rare that he was playing bass again. I have the highest regard for Scott and the rest of Brian's band, having seen them perform countless times over the past 16 years and being blown away by the amount of talent in the band - most of them not only incredible vocalists, but also multi-instrumentalists like Scott.

Is that Gwen Stefani in the background?

  • @tommyl.dayandtherunaways820

Brian didn't sing the high parts, that was someone else. Thought that was obvious....
Still a great singer, well, until he smoked and took acid trips and got overweight. It's sad really...

Billis, Jeff Foskett sang the high parts. I was there at the benefit, auction that was held and the concert - I went to every one of them. I've known "The Boys" since 1976, and have so many wonderful memories I will always cherish.
      CHEERS!

@@CSICyn I prefere Carl or Al singing the falsetto over Jeff. he has accurate pitch but doesn't have the soul Carl an Al had.

@@CSICyn Jeff Foskett is a great singer and was the one, IMO, who always kept the tune spot on.

Acid and gaining weight won't affect your voice lmao. Its called getting older. Frankie Valli can't hit high notes very well anymore either
