Wow... I'm 73 and would have been on the sands with my family in those days. The film brings back so many wonderful memories of my childhood in Weymouth. Thanks very, very much, Tony B

I remember watching the guy build the Cathedral. Went on a boat trip to the HMS Indefatigable in Portland Harbour, I was about 10.

I remember seeing the Aircraft Carriers in the bay in the 1950's. My Dad was on Carriers for his National Service- HMS Implacable and HMS Indefatible (sp?)

bigcheese2001 the pier was destroyed by fire some years ago but the front buildings are still there, with shops, arcade, loos and a very good Italian restaurant.

Great film. The Carriers in the 1950's was Indefatigable and Implacable. When they went for razor blades they were replaced by Ocean and Theseus.

Thanks for taking the time and trouble to process and share this material. I'm not sure why you've watermarked the footage with your logo, however. As far as I understand, you didn't create it and you don't own the copyright.

What a shame, why the water mark? It wasn't made in 1850 so why the computer generated screen noise?
