All that normally means is that he played quarterback for the winning team. The 4 rings were not won by him they were won by the Steelers, who were always led by their defense. Terry is the only quarterback to not play for a championship team when that team had a top 2 defense and running game, and he prevented that championship twice in 1972 and 1976. Both those defenses were top 20 all time but couldn't win because of Bradshaw. His first 5 years he was likely the worst quarterback in the league.

It's criminal how many people have no idea how good Bradshaw was. Rocket arm, tough, mobile, at a time when it was much harder to succeed at QB. He says dumb things, he's goofy, but make no mistake: in the 70"s he was a badass.

    • @lunaticfringe896
      @lunaticfringe896 Před rokem

No, it isn’t criminal. It isn’t criminal to recognize that Bradshaw had a pretty average career. Absolutely terrible early on in his career, extending for about 4 years, then he was very average, then he graduated to excellent. Interestingly enough, even after this “graduation,” he still wasn’t great many times. For instance, in ‘79, his YPA was excellent, especially for the time, BUT he was a God damn turnover machine. His only “great” year was ‘78.
Want to know what’s criminal when it comes to evaluating QB talent? Step up Mr. Ken Anderson. Now, HERE’S a guy that is criminally underrated

Bradshaw grew up about 2 miles away from me in Shreveport, La.
He was truly a hometown hero.
I got to meet him when I was a kid, just after Super Bowl XIV against the Rams.
He was hilarious just listening to him talk about football and the Super Bowl, etc...
People know him as a personality on Fox, but he is so much more.
Had an absolute cannon of an arm, and held the National high school record for throwing a Javelin. He held that record for decades after he graduated.
He was one of the most mistreated, and underappreciated QB'S to ever play the game.
Pittsburgh had the Steel Curtain defense and that power running game behind those great running backs, but without Bradshaw, there wouldn't be 4 Super Bowl trophies in Pittsburgh.
He played before the rules were made to protect QB's, played on astroturf and in the worst weather against some of the most iconic teams to ever play. The Raiders, Dolphins, and Cowboy teams of the 70's, and the Oilers, Browns & Bengals of the early 80's.

Bradshaw played in a different era from today's pass happy NFL(his last full season was ironically the same as Lynn Swann, the strike shortened 1982 season). He played on a run first offense that mainly threw on 3rd down, and quarterbacks of that time struggled to complete over 50% of their passes. As a Steeler fan, I'm the 1st to acknowledge that he wasn't the best qb of the era but to dismiss his value to those championships would be foolish. His strong arm and toughness allowed him to make plays others in that era couldn't make and people also undervalue the fact that he called the plays; he wasn't babied with an offensive coordinator. Bradshaw absolutely deserves to be on the list. I'm not sure if he's deserving of this high but he's more than a "game manager ".

c'mon man lol yes we all know the eras before present weren't as pass happy or,favorable to pass, and that defenses and running was the norm, and yes Terry contributed to Steelers lombardi wins, however, this is not a "top contributors to Steelers championships" list, it's a top qbs of all time list!-and Bradshaw has zero business being on it and u know it. and here's another thing, qbs have gotten better as whole decade after decade, same way dbs and rbs have, and on a greatest or best of all time list one does not get a pass or token entry just cause they excelled at a time when league was rubbish, for example nightrain lane doesn't belong on a top ten dbs list!-he was nowhere near as talented as the top ten dbs of today polamalu revis reed and plethora if others if last twenty yrs are all better athletes faster more talented better at coverage etc from deion to reed to Lott to u name it thirty other dbs of more modern eras are all better then lane furthermore his claim to gain was illegal gruesome head hunting hits that are illegal since his day, so even tho he dominated in his era he can't hold candle to dbs came after him and even mediocre dbs of today are infinitely more talented then him in his day, and he played against inferior athletes of the time when contrasted to athletes if today. jim Brown for example was greatest of his, day, but ain't seagull crap compared to top dbs of last twenty yrs!-and he played against an inferior level of athletes, at the time the players he played against sucked out loud when contrasted to nfl players of modern era, u think Brown would been as dominate today's era when playing against the defenders of today the watts Ray Lewis's Patrick williss etc ? of course not any good or great running back if today time warped back to browns era where defenders were fat n slow and all smoked cigs and drank beer and they'd double browns success and stats. so, if ur doing a top rb, qb, db, list of each decade then sure if course the bradshaws lanes browns of world are near or at top, but this isn't a top qb if the decade list it's a greatest of all time list, and top third if today's stArting qbs are better then Terry and u know it. c'mon man. be honest.

Like Bart Starr, Terry Bradshaw wasn't the greatest QB as far as statistics go but he is one of the best big game QB's who ever played the game. In clutch situations he had ice water in his veins. He was at his very best in the highest pressure situations. Actually Bradshaw only threw for over 300 yards 4 times in his whole career but two of those times were in Super Bowl's. That tells you right there

I always love the argument that Bradshaw is overrated because his team was great, as if the 49ers and Cowboy and Packer teams had a bunch of 3rd stringers and a great QBs. It's the dumbest argument there is. He played against the Raiders in his own conference and the super bowl opponents had pretty great defenses if you look at them. Terry Bradshaw and Troy Aikman are severely underrated because they did not have to throw for 50,000 yards. Its almost like they are punished for being great in the first 3 quarters and putting a game away while Elway, Montana, and Marino are always celebrated for 4th quarter comebacks. Realistically if you bury the other team early there is no need to throw the ball around at the end.

I think the Steelers took Bradshaw as the number one overall pick in the draft in 1970 because, while they had Hanratty, he wasn't really going to be the quarterback of the future for them-- they made that decision. Which is why they went and drafted Bradshaw with their number one pick a year later.
Bradshaw had more competition for the job on his own team from Joe Gilliam a couple of years later.
