    Hi thank you for watching my neon LED sign video. When I looked on etsy a lot of these signs are close to $200 and over. Definitely worth it because of the work and skill needed to create it, but I wanted to see if I could make it. I am going to be using it for my daughters 1st birthday, as her theme is Wild One. I have no experience with electrical and just winged it. I was just seeing if the lighting kept lighting up. If you see anything that could be done better or easier please leave it in the comment below. I always love learning new things. I am not professional with this, It was just a first attempt with out really thinking it through. I do like the way it came out and glad I did it.

    To bring down the cost you can also use a projector and trace it to car board or poster board. I also have a circuit but sometimes depending on the font it’s time consuming. Tracing works better for me 🤷‍♂️ Good work btw

      Hi, thanks for watching. The only way I have seen is using the scroll saw, which that is what I used here. Or a more affordable option is a jigsaw, which can be purchased for about $30 and up. The plexi glass has to be on the thicker side. Thin plexi glass will break easy. I usually use .220 thickness from Home Depot. Hope this helps.

      Hi, thanks for watching. No for the wire shown it is about every 1 inch you will see a light black line which indicates were to cut. This leaves the connection so it can be connected to the next one. A lot of LED wire is different some have it every feet, inch or less. Some are not cuttable at all. So read the details when purchasing. The ones I have been using are about 1 inch apart for cutting. Thanks.

      Hi, thanks for watching. I make a lot of my signs on photoshop or canva. I use photoshop to manipulate the fonts to how I think looks best in my mind. I haven't really found a font that doesn't need some tweaking, either moving letters, changing letter sizes or adding thickness. I am sure other people have found a better way but it usually takes me some time to get a sign the way I want it to look. I am not great at photoshop, etc.

      @@uliseshernandez7596 Hi, I am not good at explaining this as I am not a graphic designer. But for instance in photoshop and canva you can go to create new canvas custom size. And there you will create the canvas the size you want. You can select it to be 36 inches wide to 36 inches tall and you will know that whatever you type and expand to the edges will be 36 inches tall or wide. So that is how I get the font to be the size I feel it should be.

    Is there a specific saw you use to cut the acrylic glass you recommend?

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi, thanks for watching. No not really, I used a scroll saw which works. The main thing that helps the most is having thicker acrylic glass. Thin acrylic glass cracks easy. So when you have thicker, I used .220 thickness. It cuts well if you practice with it. I have seen people use a jigsaw to cut acrylic but that does have more vibrations and would definitely need to support it well to prevent it from cracking. So, really any brand scroll saw, even the cheaper ones will cut it. Hope this helps, thanks.

    • @marksimmons7688
      @marksimmons7688 Před rokem

      If you use Lexan instead of plexiglass .22 or thicker it will cut well with a jig saw. Will be a few dollars more. Use a fine tooth blade. Just protect it from scratches as you slide the saw.

    Do you know how I can fix my neon sign that stopped working, half way?

    • @MakerDecor
      @MakerDecor  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi, the most likely reason if it was working halfway, is the connection is not secure. Meaning the clip and the wire are not connected with the metals or copper pieces touching each other. Or the clip attached to the neon line may have shifted. I would first try to shift the clip a little bit and if it is flickering then it is the connection is not secure. Then you can attempt to reconnect it or when you move it around and it stays light up, add some super glue the acrylic bottom to keep the clip in place where the whole sign is light up. The other thing is if it was never working half way then the wires may be reversed at that section point and that has happened to me on another video here. Then all you would need to do is reverse them wherever it isn't working. In most situation it will be the connection to the clips as that would be easy to misalign when gluing the LED wire to the acrylic. After each section always double check because it is easier to correct before the whole line is down. I have used the clips from Amazon and once they are secured they continue to work, but does take some practice with the connection secure before gluing. Please let me know if you have any other questions, hopefully this helps and good luck!

      Ya, thats why I asked! I was thinking about trying to make one myself but I wasnt sure what thickness would be good to use with cutting with a jigsaw! Thanks for answering!!

      @@briancooper5202 Yeah probably the thicker one just to be safe. Thinner plexi glass does tend to crack easily with the vibrations. Glad I was able to help, good luck.

    What Cricut was used to cut the plexiglass? Thanks 😊

      Hi thanks for watching. I used the cricut machine to cut the vinyl sticker. The plexiglass was cut with the scroll saw. Sorry for the confusion, thank you.

    Hello,
    I made a name sign, and the first couple of letters light up, not alot though, do you have any idea what could be the problem ?
    Thanks

      Hi thanks for reaching out. Hmm this could be a couple of things. The first is when you first received the led lights did you plug in to make sure they light up bright. When I first received mine I plugged them in and they were really bright. And after each connection I would plug in to make sure everything was as bright as when I plugged them in initially. If it was bright out of the box and then I would check the first connection, some times those clips can be a big fidgety and some are better than others. I have ordered the same clips and some times the ones I get are slightly different from the same ones I ordered before. Just make sure they have a strong connection set before moving on to the next one. The other thing is the gauge of the wire. If it is too thin it may be difficult passing through. Gauge 20-22 have always worked great for me. Always go back to the first connection and get that one perfect before moving on to ensure the sign is how you want it and not have to go backwards. Also this may sound weird but make sure you are putting the right side up and not the bottom side up. Just because I actually did this in one of my videos and had to peel it up quick before the glue dried. So it is an easy mistake to make having the bright side down lol. I did. Hope this helps and thanks for watching, wish you good luck.

    This turned out so BEAUTIFUL... but
    I wished this video was NOT Sped up...
    I really wanted to LEARN how to do this...
    Its too hard to LEARN something when you can't SEE what you're doing, Even when I tried to slow this video down... I didn't understand exactly WHAT all you were doing in order... because again... this video is TOO FAST to Learn.
    SAD

      Hi, yes I have recieved a couple of comments about this. I really try to shorten my videos so they are not so long. But since I did get some comments I created this video czcams.com/video/Lii-OCnOELE/video.html Its a little longer but I slowed it down and scaled down the sign to make an easy example. I also created this video that shows the connection a little better. czcams.com/video/czLlaHPp4YM/video.html Hope these help

      Lol, thanks for watching. I do not do electric either, but like learning new things so I gave it a shot. It took me some practice but worked easier than I thought. I do not have a background in electric but didnt want to pay for one made, lol. Since I am just learning LED signs I would not feel comfortable selling one, sorry. Thanks for your comment.
