Walking the cup is a tig welding technique and its a good one.
Mostly used on pipe but occasionally comes in handy for other jobs too.
If you have ever walked a 55 gallon drum across a shop floor, you understand how it works.
In this video I found some scrap pieces of 303 free machining stainless and chucked then up in a turntable and made a multipass weld walking the cup.
For a total of 7 passes.
I brought you along for the ride and filmed almost every pass.
It is my sincere hope that someone passes a welding test, gets a job, gets a raise, or is better able to support their family as a result of watching this video.

The thing I love most is how quickly you get to it, even though you sell your own product you don't take too much time away from the teaching.
Much respect, I've learned lots from your videos.
Your the man. I've never needed to walk the cup since I'm not a pipe welder but I'd luv to learn. I use so much of what you done on this channel at work. Helping me become a better welder. Thank you so much for making these videos!
Thank you for another great video! Fantastic arc shots and explanation of the process.
Fantastic video! I love how in-depth you are through out the whole thing, and some really good tips in there for practice as well, definitely will try for school. Thank you!!

Hello Jody, I just broke out on the pipeline today and wanted to tell you thank you for all the information you have given. You have helped me achieve my goals.
One of the very few weld videos that don't blind me with a bare arc. Well done. Nice, infomative and correct technic

I’ve always been curious about how far my stick out should be. In this video you’ve described it it should be roughly the same distance as your cup size. pretty awesome. I’m actually going to give that a shot tomorrow and see how it works. This has been a challenge for me. Thanks for all the tips and help.
Thanks to many of your videos, I now have a TIG machine and genuine TIG finger XL and am ready to rock!

I'm not even a welder but this was fascinating to watch and learn. Thanks.
John here you make it look easy and very good looking weld just outstanding welds.never rig would love to just stick work for me
I absolutely love my Tig finger and the XL. Just welded my bumper with Tig on the outside, 1/8” 7018 on the inside. Tig Finger really keeps the fingers cool. Just don’t touch the Tig finger(on the outside) after using it in a hot spot, don’t ask 🤣
So pretty, thank you for showing us how to weld
I hope these tig finger are as good as you say because I have bought 4 of them from arc zone cant wait for them to come and try it good video
That was the best idea I have seen and very informative thank you.
Very nice demo. Enjoyed.
Beautiful welding! I hope in several years, with enough practice, I’ll someday be half as good as you. 👍
Iv been welding for 30 years ,had plenty of codings and I can't weld as good as he can 😊so good luck
Some skills there, fair play my friend.
Awesome video as always.

Hey Jody! thanks for the videos. You taught me how to tig weld on the internet! I have never done stick or mig but from your videos I have made workshop tables, aluminium boost pipes, stainless exhausts, Jeremy schmidts' grinder. Many projects so thanks again from Northern Ireland!
thanks for the good word.
Stop! I keep buying stuff at weldmonger! Lol great video as always. I'm gonna buy the DVDs for myself for Christmas. Bought to fire this dynasty 400 up! Thanks again jody. I'm 41 years old. Trying to learn all of this stuff and being proficiently is getting tougher
Jolie travail=gold job
wow Tig welding is so clean
Thanks, this video helped me a lot. keep up the good work :)
I from Poland and i work like tig welder . Yu mister you are my inspiration , perfect welding , esthetics , great job , sory for my bad leanguage . Pozdrawiam Pana :)
Man oh man this guy is talented! If I was a young man I'd want to be a super skilled welder like the guy in this video!
Super nice weld, Jody! Thanks for those walking the cup tips
What I find amazing about your welds is the consistency. I wonder if anybody has drawn a correlation between handwriting and welding skill.
I know that my handwriting improves after a string of days with the tig torch.
My handwriting us unreadable and i can't weld for toffee so i would agree with you.
I have horrible handwriting but a great artist. My welding instructor has been teaching for 30+ years and I'm the only to ever get an A+ in his class!👍👍 Hoping to get some work when I graduate.
Thanks for your sharing
Damn, those are some beautiful welds. Have never TIG welded but have heard the term "walking the cup" a number of times. Now I know that it is actually walking the torch cup and how to do it.
It's almost time for me to buy a new tig finger. Work in a fab shop and have used it for about a year and it's just now starting to wear out. Great investment!!
Very good job!!
Subbed. Great angles.
Thanks for the good video
What a guy. Thanks for this!
Great video Jody. It's been almost 30 years since I last did tig work, so I'm living vicariously. I can think of lots of times in those years I could have used the tig fingers for other welding applications.
This video helps me get a job!
This video is a reminder I need to practice my cup walking with my everlast tig welder.
Beautiful welds I’m jealous.
Wow thanks for sharing
good job. Thanks
Great skill welding
Ohhh by the way. The dual flow meter is great storage for your tig fingers
That is beautiful to watch
Those tig fingers are great, I have both sizes. I tend to open them up and rest my hand on top of them rather then putting them on my fingers.
Now he can make some source of "tig arm" 😆
Thanks Jody
Grasias por sus consegos amigo
Good info as usual.
I've been welding for donkeys years but I still like watching your vids.. the big question is though... when are you and Bob Moffat going to do some collab videos????? :)
