  • Former ESPN host Bomani Jones ruffled some feathers with his take on Bronny James getting drafted to the Lakers in the second round while some, like ESPN's Jay Williams, are completely OK with seeing more nepotism in the league as long as the beneficiaries are Black. Rick Strom breaks it down. Give us your thoughts in the comments below!

Didn't Bronny in his interview say he wanted to be his own MAN???? The Sports media is turning into an opinion based reality show full of biased and contrived views...I totally agree with Bomani Jones and agree with this guy, however, you have to watch all the way to the end of this video.
    Like he said, the difference between front office nepotism and a roster spot on a team is winning by increasing the physicality of competitive performance where the definition of meritocracy lies;
    "an elite group of people whose progress is based on ability and talent rather than on class, privilege, or wealth."
    When meritocracy is applied to professional sports the ability and talent is physically based on the performance of the particular sport and nepotism is counterproductive if the decision is without merit.
    When applied to the front office or corporation, nepotism is normalized to continue family legacies of traditional practices in growing family wealth. There is an obvious difference and it is highly irresponsible to contrive reasons to explain why there is no difference.
    Nepotism in this recent example greatly lacks merit as it takes away from prioritizing the competitive will to win. And winning is for the fans/viewers who are solely responsible for revenue...in which the monetary patronage of fans collectively pays all bills. Drafting Leflop's son comes with so many scouting reports along with his college career recor suggesting other than worthy and therefore lacking merit.
    I don't have to explain that if no one cares about a team or broadcast to buy tickets, or watch or buy merchandise and any other marketing product that the business suffers revenue scarcity. But this just shows where the Lakers and the NBA place their priority for their revenue.
    The Lakers attempt to nurture around their impending doom only satisfies one person's narcissism and his fanbase' appeal, which if you have been paying attention are not the majority by far...very far! And if this is the Lakers and the NBA's best marketing move, than it is merely saying their priority has nothing to do about the sport of basketball and not carefully catering to their loyal fan base 'Laker Nation! and basketball fans as a whole.
    If you also have been paying attention how the interest and draw away from the NBA is growing exponentially and like a pandemic the condition will eventually multiply quicker beyond any capability to cope and recover..., it is essentially the nature of business and life. They're literally turning into the WNBA with their publicly known criticized issues of lacking draw appeal of viewers and interest. The moral however, is that human nature is exposing the business and as the saying goes, "Nature vs. Nurture...Nature always wins!

Thanasis was originally supposed to be in the same draft as Giannis in 2013. He opted out and was drafted the next year by the KNICKS not Bucks. Plus Giannis averaged a paultry 6 ppg his first season so Thanasis WAS NOT drafted (albeit to the Knicks) because of Giannis! 😂 Also, Thanasis career started overseas in 2011 before being drafted in 2014. He did not even sign with the Bucks until 5 YEARS later after foreign and G League teams! He put in the time!! Giannis for the Bucks brother is 🗑️ and he has a spot. Question, what sense does it make to have a meritocracy system for players but don’t hire the best qualified coaches to coach them? Nepotism in ALL sports coaching ranks is rampant.
      The funny thing about hypocrisy is that it will make you come up with asinine comments. I will be waiting for your response👍🏾.

    This is more about the over saturation of Lebron James on television and radio,there are plenty of people who are sick and tired of this constant cycle of Lebron James every single day ,it get annoying and it never seems like it will ever end,there is no way this should ever be bigger than the sport itself,the media is absolutely disgusting

    I think the issue with talking about long term is what sort of precedence does this lead to regarding father and son playing together? It’s a rare feat in of itself. Gordie Howe played with his two sons, but that was when he was in his 40s. He played professionally until his early 50s. He was basically Gretzky before Gretzky. The last father and son duo as of note to play professional sports together are the Ken Griffeys. Sr. was an elder statesman who was more of a mentor with limited playing time while Jr. was a phenom. We’ve never seen it in the NFL since the 1920s because of how short NFL careers can be for most players. Lebron and Bronny playing together may be the only father and son duo case in NBA history. How certain are we that this could somehow happen more often?
    There are a lot of factors for something like this to happen. 1) the father has to have a son very early in his career at a very young age (age maybe 19-22); 2) the father would have to still be worth signing an NBA contract in his late 30s/early 40s; 3) the son has to be worth being considered a prospect.
    In the end, nepotism or not, this is history. Will Bronny James work out as an NBA player? I’m not sure. I can only root for the kid and wish him well. All I know is this may never happen again in my lifetime.

    And the Knick’s drafted giannias brother, and his younger brother played for the lakers (bubble ring) and he is no where to be heard of anymore. So if it was nepotism all 3 brothers would be in Milwaukee

    ask yourselves in the comments why you are so worked up over a LATE SECOND ROUND PICK whose dad played in the league? if he works out and is anything more than barely serviceable its a win because how many of those kind of picks are anything of note? and if they are its an anomaly and a huge win for said organization that drafts them

      and at the end of the day all they did was take a flier on a guy that could be a huge win for them! the season hasn't even started yet and he has been shown no favoritism! if there was already rumors or reports that he was going to for sure be on the roster and in the rotation before any evaluation with the team then there's a problem but that's not the fucking case
