In general hockey fans HATE the shootout because its not hockey, a stanley cup being won with a shootout would instantly have the biggest asterisk ever
The reason we hate the shootout is because it does not involve playing hockey.
Hockey is a team game and defense is played in layers with players working together, an individual effort is not enough to win a game.
The shootout ignores all the team play involved and it's basically a roll of the dice to see who wins then, nobody wants to win by shootout.
@Games_By_Design that was perfectly said, I just didn't want to make my post too wordy lol
The IIHF even abolished it from gold medal games 9 years later because they felt a gold medal shouldn't be won via shootout (after several international tournaments in 2017 and 2018 saw the gold medal game be decided by shootout)
Sidney Crosby is probably the most complete player of all time
Maybe not ever but he is very solid defensively
Gordie Howe was a mule in his day, it’s a shame he played so early. Crosby but more physical and mean.
This, this is a good take, I can see Howe or iginla challenging that too
An argument can be made for Forsberg.
@@scotscar I'm guessing you mean Peter and if so you wouldn't be wrong
From Hockey psychology his videos on the miracle on ice, and his videos “That game will haunt me until I die” and “How a hockey game started a riot” are perfect for the off-season. Also Urinating trees video on the maple leafs from a few years ago is becoming something of a must watch in the off season, especially when the leafs once again lost the Bruins in the first round.
The 50 Years of Failure video?
@@QuackAttack yep
Crosby is the greatest all round player hockey has ever seen probably won’t ever be a player like him ever again he quite literally do it all. Recommend watching videos on his edge work highlights I believe it’s my magic man there insane
Legend. Top 5 players of all-time all around player. And still absolutely great at age 36 last year going on 37 for this season.
Erik Karlsson and Cale Makar would be cool to react to imo. They’re both defensemen who are helping transition the position into the faster paced more aggressive one it is today in contrast to what it was in the early 2000s and before
In the NHL playoffs there is no shootouts, ya play until ya score. The shootout is just for the reg season. Theres talk that reg season OTs changing from 5 minutes to 10 minutes, and maybe getting rid of the shootout.
Fun fact, the longest ever playoff game was back in '87, it went 5 OT periods. Essentially 3 games played in 1 night🤯
Yeah it’s because people hate the shootout it’s just a glorified skills competition
Bring back ties!
@@YungKilogram no argument there
In 2019, the IIHF modified their rules to now say that in an international tournament (like the Olympics), the gold medal game cannot be decided by a shootout. It's now 3 on 3 for 20 minute periods, with full intermissions in between, until there is a winner.
Crazy I remember this and Winnipeg jets got a team that year after and when Ryan Miller was playing Winnipeg Jets at home our crowd was chanting “silver medal” it’s somewhere on CZcams lol pure savage 😅
Goals of the decade {2010-2019) is an excellent video for somebody new to the sport.
For players to watch, I'll start with the big 3 (other then Gretzky who you've already covered):
1- Mario Lemieux (The Magnificent One - he was a skating highlight reel)
2- Bobby Orr (A defenseman that redefined how his position is played. the modern rushing defenseman traces back to Bobby Orr - and he was one of the best of all time defensively too!)
3- Dominic Hasek (they called him The Dominator for a reason, he was one of the toughest goalies to beat)
Also what the golden goal from all the different broad cast stations literally every country was going wild when he scored that. EVERY SINGLE COUNTRY was cheering for them I’m not kidding
I bet the USA wasn’t cheering 😂
The shootout is a gimmick that real OG hockey fans don’t like. If the playoff game goes to 5OT then so be it.
another cool thing is the go pro vids with players like crosby and kane
The Golden Goal!!! WOOOOOOOOO!!!
The idea of ending a playoff game with a shootout is so unsatisfying. Imagine having an intense back and forth with 2 teams, only for the game to be decided by a skills competition.
Winning the cup in a shootout.....the most depressing thing that could happen in hockey....
you should watch some of the highlight factory compilations they’re rly good (best dangles, best saves, best shootout goals)
7:36 - I will point out that the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), the organization that oversees the Olympic tournament as well as World Championships, have since changed these rules.
Current gold medal game overtime rules (implemented 2019): 3 on 3, for 20 minute periods at a time with full intermissions in between, until there is a winner. No shootout.
shootouts is like ending a basketball game with free throws, nobody is coming to any game to see two teams go back an forth to that shit until one team misses
There have been games with 5OT before. In the playoffs you play until you're dead as it should be.
Miller was waiting to make eye contact with Sid. All other goals SIDNEY CROSBY looks at Miller, and scores. Miller was not set in his goal when the shot was taken, he thought Sid would look first.
NHL playoffs are so much fun to watch in part due to the endless overtime rule. It makes the games so intense.
And I could be wrong, but the record for OTs is 7+ periods. Plus the 3 regular periods.
Thats over 3 games worth of hockey in one game.
Then they likely played in 1 day or 2 later.
Crosby and Mcdavid are about equal levels of dominance in their prime just seperated by 10 years. Theres arguments for both for who is greater
The man you watched take that slap shot has the hardest slap shot 😂 Weber
Martin Frk and Zdeno Chara are both ahead of Weber unfortunately.
In playoffs their is no shootouts. You play until one team scores. But considering this is an international tournament especially it’s the Olympics it’s different
The best game I ever watched was the Flyers versus the Penguins and it went into I believe 5 overtimes. It was one of the most nerve-wracking happy wonderful days of my life
Shoot out in the regular season is fine, but even then I don’t like it
Deciding a championship or a playoff series by a shoot out is the dumbest thing i could imagine
Imagine if the NBA went to a Foul shot shoot out to decide games
The IIHF would abolish shootouts from gold medal games a few years later (2019, to be exact). Now 3 on 3 for 20 minute periods until there is a winner.
@@allanrudge1518FIFA still allows World Cups to be decided in penalty kicks (if no one scores in extra time), if I remember correctly.
Fastest slap shot ever recorded was Zdeno Chara’s of the Boston Bruins during the 2012 all stars skill competition and it was recorded at 175.1KM/108.8M per hour
Martin Frk 109.2mph
@@DustinPierson-bo9yl holy shit I completely forgot about that lmao, my bad. For NHL wise though I think Zdeno still holds that record.
@@Vixsufil Ya, Chara in the NHL.
That's our 🇨🇦 son, Sidney Crosby!!! And on the 8th day God created Sid the Kid 🙏❤️✝️
Regular season, 3 on 3 OT, and if no one scores it goes into a shootout..playoffs, is continuous OT. The longest game is like 5-7 OT lol
Infinite OTs. A shootout is nothing, the shooter has nearly every advantage over the goaltender despite being the sole focus of the goaltender’s attention. Any halfway decent shooter can score on nearly any goaltender, so it doesn’t hit the same as a tense OT does.
You should react to some goalies, a good start would be Carey Price Greatest NHL Saves Of All Time
you have got to react to Dustin Byfuglien! he is what happens if an nfl line backer were to grow up playing hockey. You will not be dissapointed
Vladimir "the Vladinator" Konstantinov, Sergei Fedorov and the Russian Five
Shootouts are so ass it would be a disgrace to have them in the playoffs
For players to check out, Auston Matthews is the best goal scorer in the league today. He had 69 goals this season, which is the most in a single season in like 30 years, he isnt known for any dangles really, its his shot.
Yes they could be there all night but it’s way better than a shootout, which sucks!
React to barkov shootout highlights
Lowkey just react to the best Crosby and ovechkin plays
lemieux
react to mackinnon and datsyuk very fun to watch
He hasn’t heard of the GOAT
He already reacted to The Great One, just check his back library for the video. The Golden Sid is great, but he's not THE Great ONE. There is only one The Great One, and I think you know who I'm referring to.
@@Seriously_Unserious Sid the kid best hockey player
@@slothbro6415 he's the best of his generation, but not better then Wayne Gretzky. The Great One has more assists alone then the next best guy, Janamir Jagr has total points. The Great One leads the NHL all time in Goals, Assists and Points. He also has the record for the most goals in a season at 92, most points at 215 and topped 200 points in a season FOUR times, and is the ONLY player to reach the 200 points in a season milestone. The next best player, Mario Lemieux (who also outdoes Crosby in his career) maxed out at 199 points. Brett Hull's the next best for goals in a single season at 86 and after that season he declared Gretzky's 92 goals impossible to beat. Since Brett, nobody's even come close to that record. Since Lemieux's 199 point season, nobody's come even close to Gretzky's 215 point season. Gretzky defined the 80s and for a decade, erradicated the notion that "defense wins championships" by taking on the mantra of score so many goals the other team can't possibly score enough to get the win, and he and his Oilers had the talent to back that up for 4 Stanley Cups in the 80s and a 5th one in 1990 after Gretzky had gone to LA.
Sindey Crosby's done amazing things for hockey, but he still doesn't even come close to The Great One. You may not realize how great Gretzky was because he's probably before your time and you just never got to see him play. His glory years were my childhood years, so I grew up on his unmatched greatness.
Crosby> Mcdavid
