    In general hockey fans HATE the shootout because its not hockey, a stanley cup being won with a shootout would instantly have the biggest asterisk ever

    • @Games_By_Design
      @Games_By_Design Před 14 dny +4

      The reason we hate the shootout is because it does not involve playing hockey.
      Hockey is a team game and defense is played in layers with players working together, an individual effort is not enough to win a game.
      The shootout ignores all the team play involved and it's basically a roll of the dice to see who wins then, nobody wants to win by shootout.

      The IIHF even abolished it from gold medal games 9 years later because they felt a gold medal shouldn't be won via shootout (after several international tournaments in 2017 and 2018 saw the gold medal game be decided by shootout)

    From Hockey psychology his videos on the miracle on ice, and his videos “That game will haunt me until I die” and “How a hockey game started a riot” are perfect for the off-season. Also Urinating trees video on the maple leafs from a few years ago is becoming something of a must watch in the off season, especially when the leafs once again lost the Bruins in the first round.

    In the NHL playoffs there is no shootouts, ya play until ya score. The shootout is just for the reg season. Theres talk that reg season OTs changing from 5 minutes to 10 minutes, and maybe getting rid of the shootout.
    Fun fact, the longest ever playoff game was back in '87, it went 5 OT periods. Essentially 3 games played in 1 night🤯

      In 2019, the IIHF modified their rules to now say that in an international tournament (like the Olympics), the gold medal game cannot be decided by a shootout. It's now 3 on 3 for 20 minute periods, with full intermissions in between, until there is a winner.

    For players to watch, I'll start with the big 3 (other then Gretzky who you've already covered):
    1- Mario Lemieux (The Magnificent One - he was a skating highlight reel)
    2- Bobby Orr (A defenseman that redefined how his position is played. the modern rushing defenseman traces back to Bobby Orr - and he was one of the best of all time defensively too!)
    3- Dominic Hasek (they called him The Dominator for a reason, he was one of the toughest goalies to beat)

    Infinite OTs. A shootout is nothing, the shooter has nearly every advantage over the goaltender despite being the sole focus of the goaltender’s attention. Any halfway decent shooter can score on nearly any goaltender, so it doesn’t hit the same as a tense OT does.

      @@slothbro6415 he's the best of his generation, but not better then Wayne Gretzky. The Great One has more assists alone then the next best guy, Janamir Jagr has total points. The Great One leads the NHL all time in Goals, Assists and Points. He also has the record for the most goals in a season at 92, most points at 215 and topped 200 points in a season FOUR times, and is the ONLY player to reach the 200 points in a season milestone. The next best player, Mario Lemieux (who also outdoes Crosby in his career) maxed out at 199 points. Brett Hull's the next best for goals in a single season at 86 and after that season he declared Gretzky's 92 goals impossible to beat. Since Brett, nobody's even come close to that record. Since Lemieux's 199 point season, nobody's come even close to Gretzky's 215 point season. Gretzky defined the 80s and for a decade, erradicated the notion that "defense wins championships" by taking on the mantra of score so many goals the other team can't possibly score enough to get the win, and he and his Oilers had the talent to back that up for 4 Stanley Cups in the 80s and a 5th one in 1990 after Gretzky had gone to LA.
      Sindey Crosby's done amazing things for hockey, but he still doesn't even come close to The Great One. You may not realize how great Gretzky was because he's probably before your time and you just never got to see him play. His glory years were my childhood years, so I grew up on his unmatched greatness.
