*The Enuma Elish would later be the inspiration for the Hebrew scribes who created the text now known as the biblical Book of Genesis.* Prior to the 19th century CE, the Bible was considered the oldest book in the world and its narratives were thought to be completely original. In the mid-19th century CE, however, European museums, as well as academic and religious institutions, sponsored excavations in Mesopotamia to find physical evidence for historical corroboration of the stories in the Bible. ***These excavations found quite the opposite, however, in that, once cuneiform was translated, it was understood that a number of biblical narratives were Mesopotamian in origin.***
*Famous stories such as the Fall of Man and the Great Flood were originally conceived and written down in Sumer,* translated and modified later in Babylon, and reworked by the Assyrians ***before they were used by the Hebrew scribes for the versions which appear in the Bible.***
***In revising the Mesopotamian creation story for their own ends, the Hebrew scribes tightened the narrative and the focus but retained the concept of the all-powerful deity who brings order from chaos.*** Marduk, in the Enuma Elish, establishes the recognizable order of the world - *just as God does in the Genesis tale* - and human beings are expected to recognize this great gift and honor the deity through service.

    From a Biblical scholar:
"Many stories in the ancient world have their origins in other stories and were borrowed and modified from other or earlier peoples. *For instance, many of the stories now preserved in the Bible are* ***modified*** *versions of stories that existed in the cultures and traditions of Israel’s* ***older*** *contemporaries.* Stories about the creation of the universe, a cataclysmic universal flood, digging wells as land markers, the naming of important cultic sites, gods giving laws to their people, and even stories about gods decreeing the possession of land to their people were all part of the cultural and literary matrix of the ancient Near East. *Biblical scribes freely* ***adopted and modified*** *these stories as a means to express their own identity, origins, and customs."*

I take it that this comment wa written by a fan of Dr Matteo a biblical scholar? However not one of these texts proves that the ancient Sumerians were the originators of the flood story mythology or many of their other myths. If this doctor examined the astronomy of both cultures he would realise that the Hebrew Bible probably dates back further than the site of Gobekli Tepe circa 12,000 BCE

Adam and Eve is the story of human self-domestication. The original story comes from Mesopotamia as the Enki and Ninhursag story.
It was Eve (woman) that domesticated Adam (man), and that is what the forbidden fruit represents.
This is the transition of our mating style from polygamous to monogamous, and that is the reason why god refers to Adam and Eva as husband and wife…

But they did die, so the serpent lied.
"Adam’s death in the Garden was like that of a rose cut from its bush. The rose is dead once it is cut from the bush, but it does not wither immediately. Nevertheless, the fact that it will wither is certain from the moment it is cut from the bush. In the same way, Adam cut himself off from his source of life, God, through his sin. The breach in relationship with the life giver (i.e. ‘spiritual death’) was immediate, and the physical effects of that breach (i.e. decay and physical death) were inevitable from the moment of the breach, though the physical effects took time to manifest. To say that Adam’s death was only spiritual is contradicted by 1 Corinthians 15:21-22, which compares and contrasts the death that Adam brought into the world with the death from which Christ was resurrected.
"“The solution lies in the Hebrew, which uses forms of the same verb ‘to die’ (mût (מות)), together: môt’tāmût (מות תמות). It literally means ‘dying you shall die’, but the sense is the certainty, hence the translation ‘you shall surely die.’ Kulikovsky explains:
“‘When the infinitive absolute precedes a finite verb of the same stem (as is the case here), it strengthens or intensifies the verbal idea by emphasizing “either the certainty (especially in the case of threats) or the forcibleness and completeness of an occurrence.”In other words, the emphasis is on the certainty of their death rather than its precise timing or chronology. This is demonstrated in 1 Kings 2:37-46: Shimei could not possibly have been executed ‘on the day’ he exited his house since he was not killed until after he had travelled from Jerusalem to Gath, located his missing slaves, and travelled back to Jerusalem.’
Kulikovsky suggests an alternative understanding as well, that this phrase could be taken in the ingressive sense-that is, a verbal form that designates the beginning of an action, state or event. In other words, the focus is on the beginning of the action of dying-i.e. God’s warning really means, ‘… for when you eat of it you will surely begin to die.’”

Before Adam and Eve decided to “go their own way” they were in complete union/communion with God body soul spirit. They were eternal beings. We are created in the image of God which means we are spirit beings that have a soul and that live in a body. God did not lie. They did die in the spirit and were separated from the eternal life giving source that is God. Their body dying is the direct result of their spiritual condition. This is why Jesus said you must be born of the spirit. Most people in the world are still living and eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and not the tree of life!

The Bible uses a lot of metaphors. Either way if Satan was just controlling the snake, or if he imaged hisself as a snake, God was punishing Satan. When the scripture says God made the snake crawl on its belly for eternity, we can ascertain that God meant he was punishing Satan by having him be subjugated and humiliated.. Think about it this way.. if you have two or more legs to walk freely and hastily, you wouldn’t want to not use them and crawl on your own stomach for all eternity.

Pythagoras means Heart of the Serpent, he was born in Sidon, a fishing Port in Phoenicia. His mother recieved a message from the Oracle of Delphi that he would become a great Leader and Teacher. Sidon means Kingdom of the Fish, and the Essenes, who wrote the Dead Sea scrolls, worshipped Pythagoras. The Sarcophagus of Eschmun III found in Sidon names him as the Widow's Scion, aka Hiram Abiff, the Founder of Freemasonry, of which Tyre was the premier Capital (at least equal to Thebes).
In 911BC Rameses II married the Queen of Sidon, home of Jezebel (Daughter or consort of Baal, basically "Queen") founding Neo Assyrian Babylon, an alliance between Egypt and Hiram, father of Jezebel and King of Assyria, and Egypt, forming the Phoenician colonies and building the first Temple of Melqart to commemorate the alliance.
The Si in Sidon is the basis of the Latin Exe, or X, and is the basis of the Cross, or Chi Rho that Constantine painted on his shields. Also known as the Cross of Tyre, or Cross of Baal, being Ra-El, or Ba'El. Oddly enough irrational numbers can also be mapped using Euler's number, producing a Templar Cross in the process. This cross can also be seen around the neck of Nimrod in Assyria, and is consistent with the Union Jack, and Solstice Calendar found in the Vatican Shiva Lingam.
Shiva is the Hebrew word for 7, their culture also found its way to Japan (via the Phillipines) ultimately becoming Shintoism.
It was the Phoenicians who gave their name to the Pole Star, which they used to Navigate the Oceans using the Zodiac, thats what the Antikythera mechanism was for, and with it they wrote the Byblos Baal, what we now call the Bible. The first form of the Bible was written in 325BC and called the Vaticanus Greacus, or Son of the Sacred Serpent, a reference to Sirius, the basis of the Sothic Calendar, which uses a Hexidecimal or base 60 system found in all the Megalithic sites around the world.
In the second century AD astronomer Valentinus Vettori transcribed it into a Lunar chart of 13 houses, what we now call the Zodiac. Horoscope means Star Watcher, and the Phoenician word for Saturn, or El, was Israel or El, (Fruit) of Isis and Ra.
El is the primary God of the Phoenicians, representing the offspring of Egypt, and his consort Astarte represents the Assyrian half of the alliance. It may be possible to trace lineages and alliances through the naming of gods, which can be traced all the way to Ireland and the Vikings, and to Indonesia and the Americas, even as far away as New Zealand and Australia.
It denotes Sirius as Son of Orion and Pleaides, which sits at 33 degrees of the Zodiac. The basis of the Sothic (dir Seth) Calendar of the Egyptians. The New Moon in this position marks Rosh Hashanah, the Egyptian, Celtic, Phoenician, and Assyrian New Year, the first New Moon of September, which is called September because it's the 7th House of the Zodiac, when the Sun is in Ophiuchus.
The Phoenix, Benben, or Bennu is the Egyptian word for Heron, a Feathered 'Serpent'. It baptised itself in frankincense and myrrh at BaalBek, and then alights atop the Pyramid, upon the Holy Grail, or Alter of Ra every 630 years to take three days off the calendar during the course of the first New Moon of Nisan, which means "Prince". The Capstone of Pyramids is even called the Benben or Bennu.
The Phoenix is found in all religions, which are all Astrological Allegory for the Moon travelling through the Constellations, as a soul migrating from body to body, this is the basis of Joseph Campbell's Monomyth, or the Hero's Journey. The various planets no doubt play their own roles as portents, omens, and aspects, this astrology is the science of the Bronze age, and lasted all the way up to the 20th Century. Resurrection was an early teaching of the Christian Church, and likely relates to the lineage of Kings (The King is Dead, long live the King.)
Phoenicians represent the interim step between Egypt and Greece, their artisans and culture exceeding that of the Greeks, who literally adopted the Phoenician Alphabet, which we still use to this day, sounding out words phonetically. Phoenician is aliiterated in Venetian, and Vikings, being Kings of the Sea.
The Bennu is the Egyptian Phoenix, to Phoenicians the Hoyle, no different to the traditions of the Etruscans, who saw birds as sacred, just as the Celts. Hebrew and Iber as in Iberia have the same root meaning over, as in overseas, as in those who travel "over the sea." A colony called Iberia also appears on the Eastern shores of the Black Sea, where the same Dolmens and Megalithic culture originating in Ireland and Brittany appeared circa 4500BC.
_Phoenician_ means Scions of the Phoenix, the first Bible: Vaticanus Greacus Son of the Sacred Serpent (Prince). Then there's the Essenes, Sons of Light, the Tuatha De Danaan, Sons of Light, Annunaki, Sons of Light, Arthur Pendragon means Arthur Son of the dragon, Chertoff is Russian for "Son of the Devil" and Dracula also means Son of the Dragon, Masons have been known at times to call themselves the "Brotherhood of the Great White Serpent". The Ziggurat of Anu also denotes her as a great white Serpent, while New Grange and the Bru na Boinne in Ireland (4000BC) coated buildings with white quartz to denote the Moon. The Moon itself travels outside the Solar Elliptic by 5 degrees, which means it passes through specific constellations in a serpentine fashion that is always changing, but repeats every 19 years, the time it took to train a Druid or Magi, Magi meaning "Teacher" the Phoenix is also associated with this sacred number 19.
The name "Pharoah" means "Great House"
or "House of Light" and Cairo used to be called Babel. Pharaoh's themselves wore a hooded crown representing feathers, just as Native American Chiefs, ie the Feathered Serpent, they were also called the Commander in Chief. Aztecs also had Serpent Kings, (Canaan means Serpent Kings, and Sidon was a Son of Canaan, and Great Grandson of Noah) who were called to lead with cunning and guile, being the very virtue by which they claim the title in the first place; but to be seen in public as just and diplomatic.
"As wise as Serpents, but gentle as Doves" the old Egyptian flag of an Eagle attacking a Snake is also reflected in the Modern Mexican flag, denoting the Constellations of Serpentis (13th sign of the Zodiac) and Aquila.
The dimensions and 12 mathematical constants of the Great Pyramid are also expressed in New Grange, and Stonehenge, as well as in Watson Brake, (2500BC) and Teotihuacan, which correlates to the Phoenician/ Sumerian Hexidecimal system, which is what our modern systems of time are based on.
Officially no one knows who invented astrology, the zodiac, navigation by the stars, and time keeping. But whoever built the pyramids, and pioneered the 24hr clock in Egypt 5000 years ago also knew the exact dimensions of the Earth, as well as the speed of light. These calculations can all be made using these Megalithic sites as surveyors use a theodolite. Specifically Teotihuacan, which sits 180 degrees opposite Cairo, and has the exact same footprint. The ideal positions to determine the speed of light using the transit of Venus, by which one can accurately determine Longitude for navigation. Capt cook did the same thing in 1774 when he 'discovered' Easter Island.
The only culture that fits the bill was wiped out "not one stone upon the other" by the Romans in 146BC. Tyre, the capital of Phoenicia (israel) sat just offshore from Ur Shalom, City of the New Moon, or City of Peace. The root of the name Jerusalem, and was also seized by Rome in 70AD after a 13 year seige. The gap between is 216 years.
Greek Dionysians built the Temple of Solomon (now called the Temple of Melqart) representing the Solar Lunar Metonic Calendar on which this system is based, they also carried mirrors, a practice associated with both the Magi and the Druids as well as Greek and Egyptian scholars, these Mirrors are Astrological charts called "Cycladian Frying Pans" and record the cycles of the planets. The first Temple of Melqart (the Phoenician form of Horus, or Hercules, or Pan, or Thor) representing the 13th Constellation of Ophiuchus or the Serpent Bearer (hence Orphic Serpent worship) had pillars of Emerald and Gold, representing Isis and Osiris. The Jerusalem Temple only took payment in "Shekels of Tyre" a currency minted during the Jewish rebellion against Rome. "Give that which is Ceasar's unto Ceasar"
When Alexander sacked Tyre in 332BC they moved to Carthage meaning "New City" or New Jerusalem, where they built a second temple with Pillars of Bronze.
Nebuchadnezzar also seiged Tyre for 13 years, taking the City captive in 573BC: the same time as the biblical account of the Jews. And again in 70AD after a three and a half year seige, also consistent with biblical accounts.

For me, the story is about the evolution of human intelligence and the suffering that comes with it. Animals don’t worry about being naked in front of other animals, but human intelligence and socialization makes us care about how we appear to others. Ignorance is bliss, but we also learned better ways to survive through communication and tools. The serpent is neither good nor evil, but represents evolution from earlier version of humans that were less intelligent (as God created them) to our current form.

You are arguing for the demiurge luciferian interpretation. The story is about incarnation in a physically Concious being. YHWH does not say “you will die on that day.” He says “if you partake of that tree, surely you will know death.” He does not mention fruit whatsoever. It is in reference to the branching of space and time.
The serpent says “if you partake of the FRUIT, surely you won’t die.” The word for fruit used by the serpent is “MiPeri,” and it also means the womb. He tells them their eyes will open; all that are born and leave the womb then opens it eye. All that embodies from the the womb is conscious and physically manifest, and will surely die by natural law. That is: All that is physically manifest in this realm with conciousness also dies.

Imagine for example a teenage boy being told by his father, "Don't go to my closet to get the Playboy magazines because if you do, you will go blind!". I then tell him, "Did your father say you would go blind? Well actually, not only won't you go blind, but you will get to see beautiful naked women." He then goes to his father's closet and looks at the Playboy magazines. When his father finds out, he kicks him out of the house (keeping the story analogous to the Genesis story).

If we split the cube in 2, in its half, which was how Satan (the snake) left us, we only see one half of the Cube, the pyramid in which we see everything, that is why we are incapable of seeing our neighbor as our equal, always, located In a pyramidal evaluation, we judge, we compare the other with us, and we judge whether he is higher or lower than us in the pyramid, if he is more or less beautiful, if he is more or less than us, if he is richer or less rich, If it is poorer or less poor, if it is more intelligent or less intelligent, if it is more clever or less clever, even if it is more holy or less holy, that is what is called the Law of Sin, we are incapable of stopping doing those trials😊

I always consider the Garden of Eden story to be the collective reminiscence that people had of the era in human history when mankind were hunter gatherers with the emphasis on the gathering side rather than the hunting. Humans then were primarily vegetarians -just gathering the fruit from the trees or collecting it from the ground. Agriculture had yet to be invented.Animals hadn't been domesticated. Of course it was a very rosy view of the world -there must have been so many lethal predators around. The fall came when people got the bright ideas of tilling the land, building ships to sail on the water, inventing all kinds of stuff -thereby man became a slave to his own inventions. He also became ashamed of his nakedness and put on clothes - he lost his innocence. The parallel story is of course the classical myth of the Golden Age as told by Greek poets and Virgil.

In the animal kingdom, when the eyes are in front these animals hunt, when the eyes are on each side, they are non-hunting herbivores. Humans have eyes in the front. Since they didn't floss and brush their teeth back then, some of the foods they ate are still stuck between their teeth and these remains can be identified. Mass spectrometry applied to teeth enable scientists to identify specific amino acids found on teeth, some come from plants, others from fish and meat.

Being naked in the Garden doesn't mean that they were not wearing clothes. Being naked means they felt vulnerable because of their authenticity. Putting their clothes back on is like wearing a mask, hiding their authenticity, so that they could fit in more easily.
Eating the fruit means allowing your judgment to get under your skin. Judgment is the fruit produced by the knowledge of Good and Evil, the trees namesake. Forgiveness, apology, or humility is spitting the fruit up. Grace is leaving it on the tree, reserving judgment or at least are attachment to it.

Born from an epiphany I had years ago.
Adam and Eve were created but having no knowledge of good and evil knew neither joy nor sorrow. Only the perpetual bliss that accompanies perpetual innocence. They were like children who knew no day from any other. It was a world full of beauty but immeasurable for there was nothing ugly to compare it to. A world without contrast. Utopian in nature but incomplete.
Every day they would ask The Lord.
    "Are you our father?"
And every day the Lord would answer.
"In form but not in spirit."
Innocent as they were they left it at that and went upon their daily routine of exploring the garden and giving name to form. One day they came upon a tree guarded by an angel who forbid them from eating from it.
"Why can't we eat of this tree? they asked.
The Angel, responded," that is not for me to say, you must ask The Father."
    So they did just that.
    The Father told them,
"That is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat of it you will gain that knowledge but at a price."
    " What price? "They asked.
"You can no longer eat from the Tree of life until your soul matures."
"Then will we be like you in form and spirit Father?"
" No. Then you must overcome The Adversary. Experience all manner of pain and sorrow. War with the flesh for untold centuries. Then you will be able to return and see the garden through my eyes."
"When we return from where, Father?,
    "From beyond the gates.
    "Why must we leave Father?"
"Because, Only souls cannot grow in paradise. Only souls cannot grow in the garden of Eden. The soul only grows through adversity. And there is no adversity in paradise."
"Will you be with us father? Will you help us?"
" I could no longer be able to make decisions for you but you have only to ask and I will be there for I am
    everywhere."
" Then that is what we will do Father. We choose to eat of the Tree of knowledge of good and evil and we choose to leave the garden. Then one day we will be like you Father in form and spirit."

I think of the "death" as a death of ignorance. They got to a point where they knew that their actions could elicit suffering or joy (good and evil). And they were ashamed of their capacity for creating suffering, so ashamed they felt naked. The snake sheds its skin and is sort of reborn, which is what they can do over and over again.

If we are to accept Christianity’s belief that YHWH created everything, then he created humanity with the intelligence to observe, scientifically test and analyze our environment. But the first command he issued to Adam and Eve was Genesis 2:17 "But of the tree of knowledge... thou shalt not eat". YHWH's Plan "A" (creation) (Genesis 1:1-31) failed when he decided to expel Adam and Eve from the garden (Genesis 3:22-24). By the time we get around to reading Revelation, Plan "E" becomes an imaginary afterlife paradise. The moment an alternate plan must be put into action, all-knowing and infallible characteristics are no longer a reasonable supposition for any god. How were two mere humans after eating a fruit supposed to have been infused with a miraculous substance which empowered them with their creator’s knowledge, able to coerce this all-knowing, all-powerful, infallible, invisible and eternal creator of everything God into believing they were just like him (or "us", if we are to recite the story correctly), and then into expelling them from paradise in fear they might eat another piece of fruit superimposed with another miraculous, eternal life imparting substance? An all-knowing and infallible creator of the universe would have, (should) have been intelligent enough to omit the planting of such consequential fruit trees during the construction of paradise ("Plan A").

Unless I missed it , the most eye opening fact of the creation story is understanding just WHO lied? What did God say to Adam if he ate the fruit? Now when Adam was confronted by Satan to eat and Adam tried to reject by repeating Gods warning what did Satan say? Satan told Adam yada yada yada that Gods warning was bogus and reading the rest of Genesis you see what Satan said actually held true. Adam did not die that day , and man went on to become like Gods leading up to the flood story.

  • @petertimings8464

The Hebrew word for day is Yohm which means a period of time. In this case it was a thousand years. Adam died within a thousand years at about 930 years. They also died spiritually losing gods favour.
The servant was used by Satan like a ventriloquist might use a dummy.
It is a true event. 1 Timothy 2:14 says Also, Adam was not deceived, but the woman was thoroughly deceived and became a transgressor

The two letters to Timothy have been accepted from the earliest times as written by Paul and as part of the inspired scriptures
The early christian writers including Polycarp Ignatias and Clement of Rome all agree on this and the letters are included in the catalogs of the first few centuries as Paul writing. One authority writes There are few New Testament writings which have stronger attestation.... objections to authenticity must therefore be regarded as modern innovations contrary to the strong evidence from the early church.
The bible is silent on Eves time of death

So Eve didn't die within a thousand years after eating the forbidden fruit. Otherwise, the scripture writers would have known about it because "supposedly" these unknown writers were divinely inspired. Why they missed out on Eve's death baffles the mind. Maybe she's still alive today.
Nearly all bible scholars have dismissed Timothy as having been written by Paul. And this claim that Polycarp and Clement both agreeing to the letters being written by Paul, is just pure apologetic speculation. There is no available evidence supporting this claim. The so-called "authenticity" claims are just largely attributions at best.

I am sure Dr Elaine Pagel knows of the hybrid child Adapa transported in a skyship to Nibiru to meet with Anu. Enki (his father) didn't want Adapa to partake of the food or beverage there as then Adapa would 'live forever' as a god, Enki knew somehow it wasn't right and was deceiving them about the parentage of Adapa. The young man could speak the language and was advanced in learning, unlike the other test-tube kids ... but Adapa and his mate Titi were conceived children by the two girls (red-haired; recessive genes in the race that spawned the 'chosen') down by the river.
That is from where the story originated, from the 'don't eat or you will die'.
All of the descendants from Mesopotamia henceforth had hybrid blood, the Israelites were from 'Black-haired Enki.
Another problem regards 'The Son of Man' is that He is ignored and disrespected.
Melchizedek was born of a virgin also and as well as Christ. 2Enoch
He was gathered to Paradise before the Deluge.
It is to His DNA (same as Christ) that Abraham bowed. He is Immortal, forever, has never died.
By bowing down then the seeds of Moses and Aaron also bowed because they were still in the groin of Abraham.
Then along came El Elyon and one of his sons Yahweh.
Cain and Abel, Isaac and his rejection of Ishmael .
Jacob and his deception with Esau, the problems of a god (false) that caused constant death in a family that consistently disobeyed (because they were born into the original 'Sin' of Eve!!???!!!
The objective of the prophesy of Christ is to reconcile all the fallen (even the enemy principalities) back to the Holy and loving Creator. But we need to get past the Lies and the father of Lies.

I don't see Genesis creation myth as a polemic against Babylonian, Assyrian or Caananite mythology, as if the jewish god is somehow apart from nature and the other gods are forces of nature - this is just christian apologetics. Baal, Enlil, Zeus, El, they are all personified beings associated with natural phenomena - thunder and storm - just like Yahweh. They are not thunder itself
