How does one apply this concept to guitar?

    • @mDecksMusic

The exact same way. Just play the upper structures only, or build 3-note voicings by quartals only using notes from the E aeolian.

Why do you keep calling a minor seven a "flat seven"? Also your "upper structure" of G → Bm "over" Bb7, is just: 13 → b13, the most common voice leading. You make it much more complicated than it needs to be. A clear case of "a little bit of knowledge ...".

It’s a good point! Sometimes naming things make some concepts more confusing. But you always need to name things to communicate concepts. The concept of upper structures is a great concept to grasp, if I just call a Gm over Bb7 a Bb7(b9,13) something essential is missing. Maybe the lesson is about upper structures, so we have to use the term. But I certainly understand where you’re coming from.

@@mDecksMusic You are making up terms for things that have already long established names. That makes it confusing for people who want to learn it properly. I am getting the impression you don't know much about music theory.

You must know a lot about music theory then. Watch our last video and then tell me what your impression is: czcams.com/video/H1k9iQS2lgM/video.html
