    Lovely stream you have on your doorstep. Surface fishing for Chubb must be one of the most exciting forms of angling (IMO). Where possible I fly fish for Chubb using dry beetle patterns. The take is heart stopping (it's the plop that gets 'em).
    Keep the vid's coming.

      I totally agree. I love to flyfish... but the is way too much cover to fish from the bank... could try wading

    That is on smal lure you have! Nice chub!
    Salmo Hornet 2 and Salmo tiny is a great small lure for this type of fishing.

      Went out this morning, Major Craft Days, tried out the new Tsuryinora Dark Wolf UL 50 BFS reel loaded with 13lb Daiwa J Braid to a 4lb flouro leader.
      Had my PB Chub on a small floating crankbait, trotted down under a overhanging tree. The fish took the lure as it popped back to the surface after a couple of turns of the reel handle.
      Love this style of fishing, BFS addict 😀

    I like your videos. Are the stretches of river that you fish free? or are you a member of multiple angling clubs? I'm interested to get back into fishing after decades and trying to figure out how to do it 🙂

    • @theoccasionalangler6956
      @theoccasionalangler6956  Před 10 dny

      @@nmcben sections are free and there is one angling club that owns the fishing rights to the rest of the water. Generally local angler clubs are a good cost effective ways to access good fishing waters

    Love the look of the reel what casting weight would you say it could handle? My rod is 3-15g I tend to use 5g jig heads sometimes 7g would this be suitable? Thanks

    • @theoccasionalangler6956
      @theoccasionalangler6956  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi matt, yes i would say it would handle 7g easily.... its built like a tank!! However it does have a very shallow spool 50yrds max . Its more than enough generally, with heavier jigs like 7g you will be able to cast 30yrds +

    May I ask what line are you using on your bfs Calcutta Conquest? Any problems or other recommendations?
    I think you then use a fluorocarbon leader then, is that right? Your answer much appreciated.

      @@theoccasionalangler6956 Thanks so much for answering, I appreciate that. That’s what I shall do. At the moment I’ve got some H2O 8 strand 8lb, on which I will attach some fluorocarbon leader. But I’m going to follow up with what you’ve done. Cheers

    What do you recommend braid or floro for bfs? I see yr using braid, I've only tried my reel with floro, other baitcaster have braid, but dunno what would be easier for bfs

      Its a really nice combo, I don't like dropping down to lures quite as lite as 1.5g .... its great once lures are more in the 3g region.... however its more than capable of casting sub 1g lures
