The advent of AI art generation software is making Miyazaki's statements even more true.
“The world has come to its end” is not a myth anymore.
Nah, it's the exact opposite.
You don't even need to look for examples of AI fanatics insisting their toy has a legitimate use-case. There's one right there! Its an IQ test, and people that are spending time on AI media generation are on average below 100 IQ.
I respect him so very much
In Japan, we will be able to watch new animation movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki this summer. It is “How do you live.” We have to watch it!! Thank you, Mr. Miayazaki!!!
Yes. I just hope my country would air his movie in theatres
@@erenyeagerist7681 I hope that the world will be able to see his new movie!!!
@@user-ww4mw6gp4y yes 🙏
He deserved the Oscar for Spirited Away. The documentary about his animation company The Kingdom Of Dreams and Madness should have been nominated for Best Documentary Feature
I really would like to see Disney and Dreamworks revive hand-drawn animation. Why does everything have to be digital? Hand-drawn art has not lost its charm.
I think with computer everything is finished faster... I prefer hand-draw animation
Cheaper and faster
I could be completely wrong, but I’m guessing hand-drawn animation is harder work overall. On the other hand computer animation is appealing to many and perhaps even cheaper.
@@shadowjuan2 Companies are just cutting costs to gain more monies, and people eat this... Greed kills art... And viewers don't even give a shit.
@@user-kp9of7re9q nah CGI is more costly.
I'm glad to see that Miyazaki doesn't hate CGI. He realizes that it has its own merits and challenges.
What an absolute legend... I think everyone should aspire to greatness just like this man. Greatness, not fame, not global recognition. Just whatever it is, make it great.
Of course Miyazaki-san felt obliged to explain that he didn’t just fire people from the computer graphic division
Miyazaki should show people in Disney the right way.
Preach dat 👏
He has
Theyre unteachable , most in Disney are led by greed , and censorship
You kidding, right? The man is above Disney in so many ways he passed them when Mononoke hime aired, maybe even earlier. The guy is a genius!
nope disney deserve nothing
i felt exactly this same way when 3D printing began to train designers, and their sculpting by hand skills, got lousier and lousier
I searched for "Anime was a mistake" and this was the top result. Gee, I wonder why.
i searched the same thing lol
Nettacki hahaha AMPAS means trash in my language. "Anime was a mistake, it was nothing but AMPAS"
+Nettacki The Oscars really know their tags?
I heard that he never actually said that but ok
Even though he retired their are plenty of other directors who make stunning anime movies. And I guess Redline would prove his point on why to some extent hand-drawn animation can achieve more.
redline is a masterpiece 💓
Computer animation has it's place but hand drawn animation will never be second to it.
Hand drawn animation is irreplaceable
今も意見変わらない?笑

It is sad that Pokemon's GAME FREK is doing the opposite thing...
Hayao Miyazaki teaches life

Those who identify as 'otaku', they sicken me deeply.
Otaku are weeaboos in denial.
+Beyond The Infinite Aren't they the same thing?
+Turtle S3x Otaku are Japanese basement-dwellers. Weeaboos are westerners who abandon their own culture and try to become anime characters and think that makes them Japanese.
Dr. Memes Basically the same thing.
+Dr. Memes okay, that's actually a really good explanation.
Mistakes are a mistake
To make computers really aid the art making process, they have to augment the analogic, instead of just virtualizing everything. We need technology to aid us at a physical, atomic level. The level at which we can touch and use all the potential of our hands, bodies and senses for interface. Thats true augmented reality. We're approaching that possibility. People think that the future is about virtuality (an alternative digital reality). But the future is actually about augmenting the interface with the real.
An example: Instead of making flat plastic surfaces with touch technology (ex: pen tablets), make some type of ink on paper that a computer can make sense of. On another level, if the computer can really understand the ideas that we draw, and give them motion, but without taking absolutely anything away from our human hand-drawn style, but just give it life, that's real progress. It seems kinda impossible, but I'm very confident that's what we're heading into. A world that seems magical, where we truly augment the real. That will be achieved with nano-robotics and advanced chemical processes. We will get computers to manipulate the atoms and put them to work for us.
@@juancpgoso a drawing tablet?
Well we went the digital engineering route. So nothing you just said will be implemented. Because that decision was made for us by our masters.
Every animators use same software, what good to be all animations look the same way?
Did anyone come here because of searching "Anime was a mistake" ?? :v

Yup
Ironically 6 years later, anime is still mostly handdrawn although there is a severe lack of talented people specially after the terrible fire loosing many industrial leading talents which was a huge hit to the animation industry in general, there just fewer and fewer people willing to spend 12 hours on avg everyday to draw page for page with a paycheck that is sometimes lower than what you would get by working at a convenient store.
If Japan wants to save anime, it must start new schools to teach future animators, and reform the way people are paid and reduce work hours, perhaps utilising a system of shifts to maintain a production cycle of 24/7 allowing studios to produce far far more shows a year than they currently can.
The man himself the great Miyazaki is working 10 hours everyday, I can’t see anything that would prevent the hand-drown anime from extinction. it’s too much for the body and brain to handle all that pressure, also it’s too expensive and mostly unprofitable.. even Ghibli is suffering from a serious financial troubles.. while the bad computer shit that Disney produce is selling and people support it unfortunately.
Hand drawn is getting a comeback in these days. Mary Poppins Returns used 20 minutes of classic hand drawn animation, Klaus was the biggest animated hit from Netflix last year (even succeded with the Annies), Weathering with you was the highest grossing anime movie of last year and the new Looney Tunes shorts have the same style as the old cartoons from the 40s.
Ya wake me up when the anime industry just stops. Its been 4 years an another 20 before that screaming the same argument. I was boot leggin NHK VHS tapes back then, and I'll be downloading the anime to my brain later on. Its not happening.
@@Moe_Posting_Chad
You okay there ga ga pi? The amount of animators are an all time low, but go on, you think statistics are a lie? LOL
@@SMGJohn Okay. Then the industry pays more to get animators in the door. This is supply and demand 101. The multi billion dollar industry is not in danger of collapsing because they don't wanna pay Korean sweat shop animators a pittance more.
Same thing with game developers. There is a world full of people willing to work for nothing because its the hot thing right now. Anime, video games, FAANG. Same thing. Its not going anywhere anytime soon.
Granted. I'm not saying that they are immovable indestructible industries. But something as big as the anime industry is gonna take a lot of chipping at before its realistically in any trouble. And worst case scenario? Oh no. There's not 100+ low grade seasonal anime being shit out every single season every year. Good. I wasn't watching trash anyway.
Its literally only going to get better from today onwards.
I wonder if he's watched paperman, and that new pixar short with the dog. I'd like to know what Miyazaki thinks about that sort of 2D-3D integration
If you look at current Japanese animations, you see a lot of hand-CG integration, for example, background robots are CG 3D model (not 3D movie, just model) while the characters and many other elements are hand drawn. Some make better integration while some are worse. They are exploring. I personally prefer hand drawn animation. You can draw in pencil or a stylus. I like Makoto Shinkai's style. He draws with photoshop but man those are beautiful hand drawn pictures.
Maruichi Sangaren Ha ha now studio ghibli is rolling out with a full CGI movie helmed by miyazaki (caterpillar movie)
Learn from Hayao Miyazaki! :D
No more years of waiting to find out who the mc end up with for anime only people

I had an illusion about ReVit. I thought that ReVit will do the tiresome tedious work of drawing we didn't want to do.

rather ironic that miyazaki is currently developing a project concept that will be in CGI.. lol
still a living legend.
The disheveled Lasseter looks like a joke compared to Miyazaki
Something with the weeabo tag bothers me because it's such a broad stroke insult to those who don't merely "abandon their culture" and that it only subjects to "westerners". First of all since when did America have a singular culture Identity, we never did, because we are made of several different cultures. I feel that weeabo and and otaku should be names we research more into, because to be an otaku doesn't merely mean to be a Japanese addict or recluse of Japanese culture from anime, otaku is actually a person who loves and/or is a fanatic or a know it all of one thing and several other things. We are in the age where we inbred the information from the internet and computers and translate them into to tags to the real world. And please I hope to those who watched anime was a mistake, no he did not insult anime, It was a mis-translation from an interview, go watch the video and stop making ridiculous assumptions.
Hello jew. Yes, America had a singular culture before your progroms and invasion of my country. We still do have a singular culture, just a lot of foreigners and traitors like you! Haha! Americans believe in the principals and aspirations set forth in the Constitution and we believe in Jesus Christ, or at least the post-renaissance culture of Christianity.
Those two ideals are inseparable from Americans and America. You're free to disagree, but it just means you're not an American and you will leave when the wealth does. I wish you nothing but pain and hardship. *Get out of my country.*
The evolution of technology is life norm But this does not mean that animation will become accessible. Some stages will become more difficult and some will be less difficult, and both of them are in the interest of producing more realistic and more lively drawings so that we can communicate the meaning and feeling that we want to communicate to people. Of course, this does not mean that those with little skills and training will sit on the throne of this profession, but rather those who know all the basics of drawing and animation and can but their feelings on it and realize how to express their real life with a group of drawings are the only ones who deserve to be called a artists .
Technology isn’t alive. How can its evolution be considered life norm?
“More realistic and more lively drawings”. Sometimes less is more.
You say that those with all the drawing and animation skills are the ones that deserve to be called artists and the ones with little skills. Professionals once had little skills. Do try to put yourself in the shoes of beginner artists.
Ai will evolve and will reach many other areas. Perhaps one day you’ll really get to feel the experience.
So OP is just talking completely out of his ass. Why do we let minors have unsupervised access to anything connected to the Internet?
if its not hand drawn there is no life to it
I don't think so. All kinds of animation have life if you done well, from stop motion to CG animation.
@@user-pd7jp5sj3b Nope, you are nitpicking and biased. I win. Bye Bye.
NO FUTURE
anime was a mistake
Dragon Ball Super was a mistake
Superman and his league of justice was a huge mistake
Today ai is taking up the load artists no longer want to do, so in a sense his vision of the creative space came to fruition to a degree.
I think the issue today is more around ownership than viability
I would say there are plenty of other issues. i'm not completely against it, and it can produce amazing things. But it takes most of the humanity behind art out of it and, well, I'm not really exited for it. Gues I'll be old school from now on, and I'm only 18... Life makes unexpected turns.
"The load artists no longer want to do"
Screw you I want to draw this shit. Don't put words in my mouth to stroke your plaigerism ai's digicock.
You should check out what he said about AI if you haven't already.
Today Ai is taking the jobs of artists that other people no longer wanted to pay.
But that actually isn't happening. That's just a lie that Ai obsessed low intelligence people like you claim, because you feel it legitimizes your toy. It doesn't.
The Japanese version of Walt Disney.
Wasn't that Osamu Tezuka?
Yes! I agree Tezuka is the equivalent of Disney.
Troll Yes , but the better Disney.. that doesnt come up all the time with 3D abominations lol... and the same type of princess - like story.... 3D was cool in the early 2000's ... but now is 2017 AND IT"S OOOLLDDD NOW !!! I actually prefer a comeback to the hand drawing again...
if Miyazaki is Disney, then is suppose that Hideaki Anno would be Stanley Kubrick.
Miyazaki has been told that comparison before and was insulted. His work is on another level..
One issue with Miyazaki is that he's stuck in the past. His studio won't live on because of his inability to move it forward.
No.. Studio glibli can evolve but..... After he saw what happened to the anime industry....... He doesn't want anymore...
Evolve to...?
"It's not about quantity, but about quality..."
@Oliver Lee What happened to the anime industry??
In Miyazaki's opinion?
Too much Waifu trash and garbage that belongs on FanFiction.Net, and most anime studios are filled with people who avoid real people and their shitty characters have no basis in real life and don't act like we expect people to act like.
The medium of anime is dead to the man we know as Hayao Miyazaki, regardless if you disagree or agree.
Tl;dr Nobody writes good characters anymore.
Grey Mei but that's not the technology's fault, anime was not what it used to because of weebos and toxic fanbases that prefer trash anime and execs just wanna do what's profitable.
