      I would like the plastic crate but since I live in a slightly wealthy country, cheap plastic crates are prown here so many people are upset coz *it's literally not last long for buying a cheap crate* so that's why it's hard to me to see a high quality plastic crate (*if there is a way to find an high quality plastic crate at my local country*)

I got rid of all the cables lying on the floor, plants that are toxic and I built a little fence to the kitchen. She will be staying in the studyroom for the first month. If she is a good girl, she will get the living room the month after. Can't wait!

    I raise guide dog puppies, so I have a new little puppy every 15 months or so
    Because of this I use a metal wire crate with a cover. I never thought to put something larger on top of the crate to keep it from touching so the puppies don't chew the cover. Great idea! I am going to add one of those ASAP just in case.
    I use the plastic crates when I take my puppy to work though because I find it keeps them calm around all the noise at work and allows them to nap. The larger size isn't a problem at work because I'm right there when they wake up for a potty break

    I'm probably going to go with a plastic crate initially. I'm going to be training a service dog so it needs to be able to travel well to work and events I go to. But down the road I'll probably get a fabric one just because I can trust them more and I carry enough clunky stuff in my travels. Plastic kennel though could stay at work, beneath my desk.

    We have a metal crate from a previous dog that is way to big...we are adopting two rescue dogs so we will want to keep them separated and crated for a while when we are not right there paying attention to them. I was opting for the wooden, but the first dog is a one year old pocket staffy mix...and your comment about the "teething/chewing" stage got me thinking...maybe the first crate will be metal (or even partition the larger crate)...thanks for the tips...new to your channel but plan to watch more!

    I DIY'd a wooden crate without a top (using an old cradle), for my dog to be in, when I'm in the house (working from home because of covid ...) but since he grew up a bit, he can now escape from it during the night or when I'm out of the house. I think plastic is what Im going to go with. Do you suggest bedding in there at all so they are warm?

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  Před 2 lety

      We discourage bedding for dogs under a year of age. It can often becomes a chew toy and has the potential for dangerous choking or intestinal blockage, especially if the crate and unattended. Bedding might be something you introduce in the future. Some pups around a year of age are past the potty training and chewing stage and enjoy a bed in the crate or in the area the family relaxes. Each dog is different and you’ll have to consider your dog’s individual chewing habits and preferences. As with all new supplies, watch carefully after introducing it for any dangerous habits that develop!

    Hi! Crate training......I understand generally that undesired behavior must not be rewarded. So: My puppy is sure to be smart enough to realize when he is about to be released from his crate; and he is sure to be excited. How can I calm him before release so that he doesn’t conclude obnoxious behavior is rewarded with release? Tom/Rockford , Illinois

    • @pliccut
      @pliccut Před 3 lety

      Search “Crate training a puppy” there are videos that talk about that topic. Generally: Wait for puppy to settle and give puppy a treat when settled. Only open the front gate a little, make sure puppy won’t bolt. Only open completely, with hand ready to gently close if necessary, when you are sure puppy won’t dash. The video explains it’s a process. Reward with treat after each successful step. Patience seems to be the key. Good luck with your search!

      Hi Wendy. Make sure you are giving your dog plenty of time for his potty breaks. Sometimes they can get distracted and this can keep them from finishing their business. I'm getting a Bernese Mountain dog. If I choose a Crate of her size.. it Will be too small in two weeks! How to choose something that will last? I want a plastic Crate...

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  Před 2 lety

      Congrats! Bernese pups are precious. A crate that is too big or two small can cause discomfort and a negative association with the crate, so it’s important to use the right size. This can require a little bit of trial and error as the puppy is growing. A crate that is too big could result in a puppy that goes to the bathroom in one spot and sleeps in another. Your puppy should have just enough room to stand up fully, turn around and lie down in his/her crate.
      Here is the plastic crate that we recommend!
      Plastic Crate: howtotrainadreamdog.com/plastic-crate
      Another option is to look into a metal crate that comes with a divider. Here is the one that we recommend: howtotrainadreamdog.com/metal-crate

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  Před rokem

      We recommend you have one crate indoors, always supervise your pup outdoors and you can use the same crate for travel if it fits in your vehicle. You can also use a harness and a seat belt that buckles into your car's seat belt system. Here is one we recommend.

    • @HowToTrainADreamDog
      @HowToTrainADreamDog  Před 4 lety +2

      Yes, cover the front. I leave the back uncovered and pushed up against the wall for better airflow but less visibility to things that might over-excite your pup while they are in their crate.

    Dogs crates are cruel and are used for the benefit of the owner and not for the dog. No animal should be shut in a cage. How would you like it? If you can't provide a safe environment for a dog then don't get one. They should free and safe or at least kept in a large dog proof room overnight or in the owners bedroom. Cages are cruel.
