IFLIGHT TAURUS X8 Cinelifter FPV Drone Review
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 2. 08. 2024
- Taurus X8 is the new FPV Drone from Iflight. It's a cinelifter designed to carry cinema cameras. I flew it with Blackmagic Pocket 4K Cinema Camera. In this drone review I share my experience with it. I tested it with chasing paragliders and a motorbike.

if I was a paraglider I wouldn't want those flying scissors anywhere near me lol
For sure there is always some level of risk included when flying with FPV, this is why it's crucial to:
1. Know your limits and your skill level
2. Do flight pre-planning - know which shots are just to risky to do
3. Consult with the expert (in this case the paraglider) about what is possible to do and what not
4. Make sure that your gear is in excellent condition and that it works
To be honest it was little scary but super FUN! Thanks for following us up in the sky Tom (and not cutting our lines hahahha)!!! Excited for more action like this :)))
Yeah this is not that little 5inch Nazgul that we started with :D Excited to see what else we create!! Speedflying is next? :P
@@tomstrojnik Wohooo lets goooo!!
Thanks for the awesome video! Ordered mine and itâs coming this week. Iâve built a few X8 cinelifters running double XT60 6S setups, and although they worked well, this one is going into a flight case because it just has that professional look you want to have when you show up to a shoot and the other drone guy has Inspire 2âs.
Thanks for watching, wish you all the best!
That's some epic filmmaking right there. Love the quality bro!
Thanks my bro!!
A nice piece of kit for sure. The Nazgul footage at the end just shows what is achievable with a more moderately priced set up! Thanks for sharing, like the paragliding footage.
Different tools for different needs. Most of the time a 5 inch with Gopro is the best option :)) thanks for watching!
Tom, thumbs up for your work! Chasing paragliders - great video! Very motivational. Hvala :)
Appreciate it, najlepĆĄa hvala Marko! :D Yeeah, we had perfect sunset conditions for filmmaking :))
That is amazing!! Great footage, amazing location, great to see the paragliders.
Appreciate it, thanks!
OMG! Best fpv videos!!!!! Love the review, hope I can see more footage with the Taurus
Thanks my bro! More footage coming ofc :))
@@tomstrojnik sickk!!!! Prepared a bag of chips to watch itđđ„
Smooth onetake shot at the beginning with the paraglidersđ„
Thanks Cedric, glad to hear you like it!
As usual super epic Tom
thanks a lot Julio!
You have guts men!!! Iâm admire you!!
Thanks for watching!
Soo cool Tom! Flying this X8 looks scary. I am already scared flying my 5 inch Octo. Great Video. Greetings from Austria!
Thanks neighbour! Yup it is scary at the beginning, but you get used to it.. :)
Hoping to get to this point sometime soon. Lots of practice is needed! Looks amazing, hands down blows away the GoPro of course.
Nice footage Tom. You're a responsible pilot.
Thank you. Always doing my best to keep everyone safe :)
oh man thats so good !
Means a lot, thanks my bro!
good review man, u killin it with that beast
Thanks my bro! Flying this beast really gives you that adrenaline rush :D
@@tomstrojnik yeah, i see it on your video bro, thanks for share đ
First time to see your video, fantastic pictuređ„°
Thanks! Welcome to the channel! :)
Awesome!
Thanks Roberto!
â@@tomstrojnik My pleasure!
Super nice video, all youre episodes are just very learning, so was thinking about if you have thought of making a video of how you color grade? That would be very nice.
Hi Rasmus, thanks for your feedback. Will write it down and keep it in mind for future video ideas.
Just discovered your channel! Liked and subscribed! Really good!
Thanks, appreciate it
Nice! Its a big boi for sure. Tuning must have been a pain in the butt, and I recon that you need a powerfull computer for warp stabilization. I mean, as you said, this is for experince pilots with filmaking in mind, a proffesional tool. Good video, very informitive, always nice to see your videos :)
Thanks MiloĆĄ, means a lot! The tune out of the factory is actually really really good.. as you saw in the video. But there is propwash happening when punching the throttle to get out of the dive.. we'll try to improve the tune with AleĆĄ :)
Awesome review and filming man :)
And supersmooth :) is it the iflight tune or your fingers? :)
Thanks! A little bit of both :P the tune is great!
Amazing videography.
Thanks!
Awesome Video dude
Thanks man!
Looks like real beast đđ
It's a big boy! :D
thank you for this video
Thanks for watching
Nice vid brother đđ»
Thanks Jose!!
nice video!! what pids do you use with the bmpcc4k?
Nice video
Thank you Paul!
Wooow I was so scared to see the video and thinking to that helicopter so close to the paraglider. You have great self control
Yeah, you have to be condifent and trust in your skills 100%.. before doing a project like this! :) Do lot's of practice with 5 and 7 inch quads, before flying a cinelifter
Thanks for this video man !
Amazing that you donât need stead xp or something like this, lookâs really smooth with the stabilization of premiere pro !
How did you make the focus ?
Thanks! I filmed at around f/9 and set manual focus almost to infinity - meaning everything was in focus. And I used focus peaking feature in the camera to set the focus
@@tomstrojnik thanks a lot man I understand how you made it, really cool good job đđ»
Amazing footage but with wide lenses it's not overly different to GoPro especially when viewed on YT. You should try it with a 35mm at 1.4 to see how it works to really justify using a camera like this but the weight and focus could be an issue.
Hi, thanks for watching. I'm a filmmaker, so I love to shoot with primes and have shallow depth of field.. but it doesn't make sense to use tighter focal lengths FPV. Wide angle lenses work the best
Hello could you tell me the model of the adapter you use to mount the camera on the drone in this video? Do you suggest me? I use a Siccario and a BM 6k on it thanks
Hi! nice review! just a question, is it possible to increase the flight time by doubling the battery?
depends on the camera weight and quad tune.. I wouldn't push it, too heavy...
Great vid. what size lens and brand are you flying with?
Laowa 7.5mm lightweight
very cool, undistorted stabilization shots, the gliders really liked it. But in the footage with the motorcycle, there is not enough focus, it is a little blurry.
Nice bro! How you stabilize a footage from bmp?
Warp stabilizer in Premiere Pro
breathtaking shot behind the paragliders! are you constantly communicating with them to know when they will make a turn or do you just react to their movement?
When possible I do communicate with my subjects yes! But we didn't in this specific case, it was all me reacting to their movement. But we did talk about what path they will fly and how - before the take off :)
@@tomstrojnik very Interesting. Thank you for your Videos, i love them!
Any idea where I can find TPU thicc camera mount , looks like better vibration dampening than the X8 comes stock with. Your video looks better than most all Cinelifter youtube vids. I think cinelifters in general have vibration issues, all lack clean resolution compared to gopro. Not sure why, but cinelifter full frame and super35 videos are not as sharp as 5" quad with a hero 10
Check this out: www.drone-fpv-racer.com/en/shendrones-thicc-cam-mount-wsilicone-dampers-8454.html
I assume using inav would make more sense for this than betaflight especially since inav is pretty solid with FPV flying in acro mode? Also.. not sure you can share.. but what sort of money can someone make flying on tv/movie/commercial sets with something like this? I have the BMPCC4K.. wondering if it pays well enough to cover the costs in a short amount of time or if it takes a while to make decent money?
Paraglider sequence is magical!
Thanks Gilles! We had a magical sunset!
how does it feel with the camera mounted so far up from the frame compared to shendrones Siccario where most of the weight is center of mass compared to this x8
I have Shendrones Thicc as well, but I prefer Taurus! However Siccario is the winner ofc, if you fly with Komodo or Zcam.
This is really cool. The sooner someone one can get accurate camera gyro data for use in post stabilization, this would would sell out instantly
Agree! Reelsteady stabilization for cinema cameras... huuh that would be amazing!
Blackbox data wonât work for you? I mean thereâs already a way to use RS Go with any given camera
@@Maxcarajo results similar to gopro+rs would be game changer with this drone then
@@Maxcarajo Really? How?
Just search âRs go any cameraâ here on CZcams - there are several good videos about it đđđŒ
hey man!
I have taurus too, but still can't find good pid.
I use yours, from your old video. But they're dont perfect. maybe you have the best pids now?
many thanks for your videos:)
I still use the same pids
Does the drone has a small camera in it?
Nice footage and thanks you for the feedback :-)
thanks for watching :)
@@tomstrojnik Hey ! I've recived this message : CONGRATS YOU WERE RANDOMLY SELECTED AND WON THE DJI MAVIC 3 SPONSORED BY ALDRYN QUICKLY SEND YOUR DETAILS ON TELEGRAMđTO CLAIM.
Is it reel or fake ??? đ€
Nice flight is the Taurus better then the Shendrones thicc?
They are both very similiar, depends pn how good you tune your Thicc :)
please explain to me what benefits you get from expensive camera in such an environment? GoPro or insta360 one r will give you the same results, or even better because you can apply much better stabilization to them or even lock a horizon. I always thought that the only benefit of bigger camera is just bigger sensor which gives a huge improvement in dark environment and gives almost no noise on footage...
For higher budget commercial/film work :)
đ€đđ€
Thanks man!!
What dampeners are you using? They donât seem to be the ones included with Taurus
They are the ones included
Did i hear that flight time is 46 minutes đź? Or 4 to 6 minutes ?
Hello Tom. Nice Video! Thanks! Im working a lot here in my country with FPV drones, and I recently jump to the Tarurus 8. Im going to put an A7SIII on it, and Im a little scared about it. What do you think... Is it really worth it? THANKS
If you don't have high paying clients, or if you are not a part of bigger video production that have bigger bugets.. than nope, it's not worth it..
@@tomstrojnik thanks for the advice ;)
Amazing work!
I hope Gopro gives us a 1 inch sensor, 10 bit colour and a new processor for the hero 10, I just want the best camera possible that I can carry on my 5 inch. If not, maybe DJI would be willing to put the mavic pro 1 inch sensor in a osmo action 2 or something.
That would be EPIC!
@@tomstrojnik I will be getting a Komodo I think for my personal and professional video work though, so I will be building or purchasing a cinelifter of some kind so I can risk it on an fpv craft :)))
Taurus x8 is quite affordable and looks so clean to me. I wonder if it has less power or safety or something than the more expensive and more 'pro' setups like shendrones thicc, siccario and various other ones.
Where are you meant to put the Lipo to power the komodo/ cinema camera btw?
â@@definingslawek4731 For box type of cameras - Shendrones Siccario is the best option.. Second best is Iflight Taurus x8, it flies great! Shendrones Thicc is my third choice :) I use Tattu R-line 5100mah 95C
@@tomstrojnik where do you put the lipo that powers the komodo/ camera?
Also how much better would you say the siccario is compared to the taurus?
I saw a youtube video of a pilot who was comparing siccario to his own custom build 'zeus' and his zeus had so much more power, was 12s though.
Hi there, how do you set your focus point when you are using this manual focus camera body?
I set aperture to around f/9 and set focus almost to infinity mark on the lens (use focus peaking feature on your camera for help)
@@tomstrojnik thanks mate!
HOLY SHđł
Wow, if I were the paraglider I would have been absolutely terrified by this flying weapon orbiting around me and my lifelines. o_o
This is why flight planning before take-off is so important :)
what lenss has the blkackmagic camera??
Laowa 7,5mm f/2
How well is it tuned out of the box?
Very good! I only had a little bit of propwash when punching the throttle to get out of the dive
I need to see result when you record with a Sony with gyro stabilized video
I don't own a sony atm, maybe one day :)
Thanks for the video, Iâm looking to get the Taurus or Thicc for an Sony fx6 setup. It sounds like you have both? Which do you think would be better for the fx6? Also, did you have to do any tuning with the Taurus to get smooth flights with your camera setup? Great footage BTW!
Yes I have both.. Thicc is okay, but I prefer Taurus. So I would go with Iflight Taurus or maybe Shendrones Siccario. Thanks for watching my content :)
I am very happy with my Thicc. It works well with Sony A7c, using Catalyst and BMGCC 6k + Steady XP. With 7inch tri blades I had issues with vibrations, than changed the down props to bi blades - the vibrations are gone. Siccario is more powerful, but I am still fighting vibration issues. It seems to me the Taurus is very good cinelifter as well. The footage looks great.đ
I actually ended up building an insider and modifying it for 5inch props. Also got a sigma fp, to put on it and Iâm stabilizing it with gyro flow. The 12 bit raw graded results look incredible! Gonna build a 7 inch quad for the sigma for those windy days!
@@edwardrobison3684 I am just thinking of purchasing the Sigma fp as well, 12 bit raw and the low weight are indeed attractive features. How does Gyro Flow work?
@@maredichzinn8899 Iâve been using the Laowa 11mm ff lens on the sigma and I built a profile for gyroflow and it works great! I uploaded it to elvins gyroflow website. I just shot an intro for a WB show intro coming out this fall and some stuff for Bass Pro Shops, and the 12 bit looks amazing! With the t5 ssd and the camera and lens it is 800grams. Havenât uploaded any clips to CZcams yet, but I will soonâŠ
I realy like this footage, now i must buy a fpv drone đ€Ł
Haha I know how it goes :D
