Thank you for granting my request & sorry for being overly insistent!! 😂😂 This is indeed one of my fave Regine performance. And to answer your question, she was a daddy’s girl. They had the best dad & daughter relationship. Her dad is the reason why she sings this way. As a child, her dad trained her to sing while immersed chest deep in the water to strengthen her vocal core. Her dad was never absent in any of her concerts or singing contests even when she was still very young. She was too emotional during the concert because it was the first time that her dad was not in the audience.
Her father is her hero. She couldn't sing "Leader Of The Band" and "Papa Can You Hear Me" for a few years because she would break down and cry. People in the audience were in tears when the lights came back as she finished this song. She was strong, deep and moving. It was so sincere
She has an excellent relationship with her father and so you know she was really devastated when her father passed. But then her fathers health has been degrading over the years so it come as a shock to the family. She has been dedicating songs to her father as early as 2012 (not sure if there were earlier concerts as well), knowing his health is on a decline. But i have to tell you, the level of professionalism she has... far too much. Her father was her life and had been with her since the beginning. She is truly blessed to have Ogie in her life to make the blow more bearable.
I agree Matt, Ms. Reg really deserve those awards. When she sings these types of songs, it always makes me emotional. Her spouse Ogie Alcacid wrote a song for her dedicated to her late father titled "First Man In My Life", she sang that in her concert and she broke down- If you haven't checked it out yet. Sad song.

I never heard anything pertaining to Regine's strained relationship with her dad. Her dad was a significant factor for Regine's success as he is always by her side.
His father died few years ago already in this concert.. but the thing is every concert regine father will always be in front seat literally facing her and this song reminds her too.. and she purposely dig her heart breaking experience so that u can feel it when she deliver..
Mang Gerry died more than a week before this concert. This is the first concert that Mang Gerry didn't watch. She's doing the rehearsal during Mang Gerry's wake..That is one proof how professional she is.
