  • I've compiled the reviews of the first six Star Trek movies into one, massive video for you to watch at your leisure. Enjoy!
If you're looking for a "review" in the traditional sense, then let me just say I love these movies. This video, however, is a "review" in the literal sense (using the Miriam-Webster definition "a retrospective view or survey"), in that I'm going over the history of the films and their place in cinema history.
In other words, please stop commenting on how my videos aren't what you consider "reviews."

Not a massive star trek fan, however the motion picture is always gonna be in my top 5 favourite films. I just adore that film. The recent re-release/scrub up was brilliantly done.

This is a great retrospective. Just discovered your channel. I like some of your little visual and music touches. Some good history, most of which i know as a lifelong Trek fan (and some i definitely did not know!) but you have a great voice and insightful commentary. There is no shortage of content about these movies on this platform, but you have added to that group in a meaningful way. Cheers.

Thank you. Grand to see these retrospectives all together. I thoroughly enjoyed this, even though I am not particularly a fan of Star Trek. For me, Star Trek is a lot like the Australian Outback. I know it is there, but I am not in a rush to see it more than once.

Growing up with Star Trek and getting to see these movies in the theater opening weekend with 3 (though I was really too young to remember actually seeing them till 5 sadly) I can honestly say 2 and 3 were my favorite MOVIE as a kid till 6 came out. Over 30 years later the VHS release of the undiscovered county is still my all time favorite movie... Though being an adult I have a different understanding of how culturally important that movies concept truly were. It was the movie that actually talked about the fears that came with the end of the first cold war...
But 2, 3, and 4 were always meant to be watched as a 3 act Opera and to see so many younger fans dissect them in every way possible makes me smile. Nice video!

The first one I remember seeing was 4 at a Drive-In Theater! It was a double feature with 3, though they showed them in reverse order for some reason. I remember my older brother got food poisoning and threw up as 3 was starting, so we didn't see it that night.

@@TheUnapologeticGeek that is both an amazing and tragic story. Lol even with the new movies and being older there is just something lost in time about seeing movies at theaters and drive ins. It's more than nostalgia... It's a moment in history in our lives that is past and lost

I have seen each video independently and now I enjoy then as a one hour (and more) long video. Fantastic idea.
It just entered my mind to ask if you are planning to cover a quite unknown movie by Sean Connery, Outland 1981. It IS 30 year old, I think. 😅😊

I do have Outland lined up! I don't know when I'll get to it, but chances are good it'll happen by the end of the year.

I saw all of the original films theatrically. STTMP in December, 1979 at age 10. Then ST2TWOK in 70 mm six track...STTTSFS, bought a program for that one...ST4 in late 86 in high school. ST5TUDC in 89 in a theater with 2 or 3 others; the trailer for "Jason Takes Manhattan" showed. "ST6TUC" in late 91 after a long, hard day in college. Before the show a friend and I went to Pizza Hut and they had pizzas two for $10 and, on a dare, ate a whole medium pizza myself. And then the movie. Ufff.

The motion picture is one of the greatest films of all time. All the Trek films are great. Yes even 5 for the character scenes if nothing else.

That’s actually not true. Robert Wise did use some of Alexander Courage’s music in Star Trek the Motion picture. Mainly during the when Kirk is recording his log. You can hear some of the main theme from the tv series.

Regarding ST5: Since the discovery of the supermassive black hole (Sagittarius A*) at the center of our galaxy was before these films, i myself wonder why they couldn't have used that? A small M-class planet being at the center with a fake god hologram hiding in some rocks feels like a wasted opportunity. Maybe Sha Ka Ree could have been some alien object near the event horizon, and then you have some real danger. Does Sybok's obsession risk the Enterprise falling into its gravity well, etc? And does he want to go there because 'god calls him'?

It probably has to do with the fact that no one outside the astronomical community knew about it. There was no Internet for people to routinely use. Sag A* didn't become famous until at least 1994, three years after the movie was released, and while it was strongly suspected it wasn't confirmed as a black hole until 2009.

The more I learn about Roddenberry, the more it is obvious that he should be thanked for getting Star Trek on the air, for inventing the original crew, getting TMP and TNG made and that is about it. He was really not great at running shows, and didn't have great story ideas after 1970. He nearly killed the TOS films and TNG by his gross incompetence as a producer and show runner and was nothing but a detriment to the TOS films and TNG after the pilot. Add to that the way he treated everyone he worked with financially, and his grifting ways. Oh, and the sex pest stuff.

    • @NefariousKoel
      @NefariousKoel Před 2 měsíci

Yeah, he can be thanked for the original ideas but boy was he a detriment though much of it. Not surprised they cut him out so much, especially after hearing many of his later ideas and the huffs accompanying them.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture was a tired and often repeated story. (Nomad, V'ger, whatever the stupid whale thing was.... grrr) I still love the music right at the beginning where the Klingons encounter V'ger and then run for their lives. Oooh, I think I was still in a trauma unit... directors cut? How did I miss that?
I still think, as a franchise, Star Trek has been horribly mismanaged over almost 6 decades.

ST1 was great! All the movies were great except ST5. Ugggg.... That was... sorta-fun yet the acting was horrible.
