The game needs a p2w ceiling. There is virtually no cap for dollars spent to power gained. The core game is amazing, but what has always been the lifeblood of Ragnarok titles is the community. The business model benefits from alienating players and pressuring whales to spend more. It’s about management. It’s easier to manage 3000 whales that spent $1000 a week rather than 300,000 players that spend $10 a week. Make no mistake, this game is NOT F2P friendly. It’s the most predatory monetary business model I have ever seen. I whale games. I spend on average 20-30k USD a year on games that I whale. Ragnarok has taken it way too far.
The core game is amazing, but the financial overlords that are concerned with the upcoming quarterly report will not allow a proper business model change, and it has soured how people view the whole franchise. In the western world the game is close to being considered completely dead- and it’s entirely their own fault. Look at Google trends for Ragnarok Origin. They have cannabalized themselves after abusing their fanbase.

Yes, I am thinking the same thing. Spending in ROO has no limits. That's why whales tend to be way overpowered compared to semi-spenders and F2P players.
I played ROM and while that game had it's p2w too it was nowhere near as predatorish as ROO was. Right now the gap between f2p players and P2W players is similar to that of ROO, but the thing is, it took ROM several years to reach this point. Roo did it in only 2 months.
This game has a time limit threshold.
It's a fun game, I love it and it's by far the best iteration of the franchise.
But make no mistake, as time passes, whales get exponentially more powerful while F2P and small spenders just increase their power in a linear fashion.
I'm currently playing in the lna version and with players capped at around level 88 the timeline has started to show.
Right now, a single whale can just stand on auto and fend off 50 players in WOE. And it's only going to get worse. GH bosses are already being soloed... and those are really meant for 90+ TEAMS.
The difference between a 3.9K power whale and a 2.5K normal spender is abysmal. F2P is just for those that are ok with being carried by others, as you'll be basically inconsequential for most content.
And yet there is a bunch of ppl keep saying "whos gonna pay the server to keep online " , "whos gonna pay the employee salary etc etc etc.,they will never understand how the dev already made the profit so far compared with all the cost they spend from the beginning until now hahaha.

What frustrates me the most is the fact that this game is managed by one of the worst companies I've saw.
I do not think Gravity has plans to make ROO less p2w over time. Actually I dont think they can make a long term plan (most project are target to live for 1~3 years, grab the most money they can, kill the game, release another one)
It would be that hard for them to make a game less p2w (only cosmetics/potions/VIP in cash shop) with a long term plan ?

I think many people share this sentiment. But it’s too late for the titles currently out. Even if they WERE to release a F2P or reasonable p2w model for Ragnarok, they have chased away many players that are likely to not return. One can dream though.
i Agree with you, i still played this game, even most of my friends are retired from this game. Until now, i still enjoyed, i still love this game, bcoz this game give me nostalgic memory about ragnarok classic. ❤
I'm bout to quit ROO LNA, cuz p2w players seems unreacheables, but yeah, as you said, I gotta enjoy my own pace and let go of some stuff that ppl with money will always have first.

This seems like an excuse people give themselves to justify their continuation of playing when facing their sunken cost. The game is performance-centric. If you enjoy losing due to not spending money, sure, keep playing. But I promise you will thank yourself if you just delete your character and move on. Trust me. Good luck!

The more i played this game the more i miss the old ro its clear as water that the developers made this game yo earn first and not for the enjoyment of the players 1yr in majority of the players already quit i would understand if f2p players quit but low to mid spender too quits
I'm still playing cuz I found friends in this game. Rarely go outside with friends since we have our own stuff going on. Luckily, I am not that very competitive, and is matured enough to know that there are whales in real life and for sure in any other games as well. :p shoutout from AH7-10 XD XD XD
I do concur that this iteration of Ragnarok game is the best among the other Ragnarok versions that Gravity has (e.g. ROM, ROX), and it's the closest to the original PC version. Though, it's also perhaps one of the most aggressive in terms of the monetization strategy, which is understandable as they're a publicly listed company (GRVY) that must keep growing y.o.y and deliver shareholder value.
Right now the reason of why I'm still playing the game is mainly because I've spent quite a sum of money (I'm a high-spender), kind of stuck in a sunk cost fallacy. I plan to continue to play this game for a bit more (unsure how long, probably 6-12 more months).
However, looking at how Gravity continue to milk Ragnarok IP over & over again with so many other versions of Ragnarok (it's all about profit maximization for them), I've decided that ROO shall be the last version of Ragnarok that I'll be playing.
sorry but i disagree with some of your statement specially about the introvert part on how you play because right now im still playing ROM with ROO and with ROM i can slow but surely build my char alone but with ROO im still using he level 90 gears because the divide equipment are only available via that co op mission which is really hard to do if your well equipment are bad, so rather than improve the quality of life and actual gameplay other than GVG they release bunch of p2w items as if thats gonna help casual player and thats one of the reason ROO are dying heck im gonna say this within 1 year this game will be dead.

It’s not a type of game to be competitive for kids who can’t afford. They can still be in for the experience as f2p but not on a competitive level. Most mmorpg are p2w anyway and roo is not even on the scale of the top mobile mmorpg like diablo immortal as far as p2w game where whales spend $20k to $100k on their accounts. As a low spender i enjoy the game along with my f2p and whale friends. The woe, gvg experience and the community is great. It’s only a dead game for kids who can’t afford.

One thing that make me quit was because of the player based. they wont help you if your CP lower than them. like we cant finish HHN or HHH just cause of that. where are the friendly player that wish to help despite the CP diff?? disappointed with this feature and respond from other player

I stayed on this game because i still have few friends playing the game. If i hadn't made friends i could've quitted sooner. TBH, this game was good in the first months. But it slowly ruined by Gravity's greed. Gravity was secretly reducing the chance of getting gacha costumes from Poring chest, ronopoly, etc. So, players could spend more. Also the most disappointing part is they keep adding complicated contents in the game so only few players can complete. Like the first release of ET challenge was achievable, but they updated it to become harder than TON 20f so only the whales can complete. The 10-man freya party too where we keep repeating the game like 1-6 hours because there's network delay on members using smartphones. And the limited time gourmet quests that can only be triggered during a specific time where players are supposed to be resting or working.

I agree, im on your back. I just loved this game, ro origin is the most best gameplay than other ragnarok game if comparrison from Ragnarok classic. I just enjoyed playing daily my own progress.. i wish future update, if gap bout f2p with p2w is to far away, i wish developers can making server moving base on DP , Exm : moving player beetwern 500k-600k in one server and then 600k-700k in other server, ect.. maybe the game will be fair 😂 just my dream wishes . well the reason i quit not because the dev is shyt or pay 2 win whatever. its just.. if you just skip 1 day not playing the game / skip the event, you'll lose a lot of progress , and the must do event on night its literally a must although i have work literally on early morning, so i decided to drop the game 5 month ago.

Whale=fast progress. F2p=slow progress. That's it. But observe when spenders stops spending we f2ps somehow copes up with them. You really have to enjoy your own progress rather than comparing yourself to whales. Marvs, is right that's reality, even in our society there are always ppl who are winning in life because they have money. You can't change that reality. If you enjoy the game, stay. If not, then quit.

They will not do that as they will just go for fast money if the game died they just go for another game project it will just cycle in endless loop unless the players/customers will do something about it. I think those players who quit playing ROO mostly got weird reasons (of course not including personal reason such as too busy to play). If you think clearly, its quite obvious that the developers maintain the gap between whales and f2p players, and the gap is fair to be honest. That is why this game still fun to play together. Besides, their customer service is so helpful. I really love it when you said that you enjoy your own pace, that was the best sentence to represent it. I really enjoy your ROO content and appreciate your love for the game but you should know when to quit. The company that created this game does not look for a long term investment they just want to earn money quickly and as much a possible, because they know that there will always be a new game that will come out. It is really hard to quit a game specially when you committed a lot to it.

But if you're continuing to play because of sunk cost (sayang eh, nagastusan ko na eh), then it's a bad decision. You can never get back lost time and money, but you can save your future self by quitting.

I used to complain about ROM being p2w, and yes there are p2w elements and the gacha deposit system eventually killed the game for new and casual players (1% permanent damage increase from depositing gacha costumes and heargear respectively). However comparing it to ROO nowadays i can actually compliment ROM by saying that atleast their p2w, despite being a time bomb that eventually blew up, it was way more respecting to the casual player than ROO ever was.
For a started they actually respected your time, with most upgrades being obtainable with Zeny making CT pretty much the only real thing you needed to do. and if you missed it the time would stack up with the next day CT. Second there was rarely, if ever, an event that f2p players couldn't enjoy. Every event afaik was made with the purpose that everyone, even new players, could participate and rarely ever encouraged to spend money. The guild events had more free days between them so you weren't forced to be there every day. You could unlock all classes on a single character and change between them when out of combat, and they all shared your base level but the job level could easily be increased too trough the use of EXP potions wich you would passively stack daily trough events and dailies, You had shared storage to send stuff to your alts. While there was no refine transfer like in ROO each time new gears were added devs would usually gift you refine skip tickets allowing you to skip from 5 to even 10 levels of refine. And most noticable, the rate they release content; ROM and the first version of ROO came only a year appart from each other, how is it posible that ROM has allready every single classic job up to 4th Job and most of the original cities while ROO hasn't even released the expanded jobs yet?, for example, Gunslinger skills has been in the game since version 1, you could use them in that story quest where you play a Gunslinger npc, there is absolutely no reason why today, years later, there is still no Gunslinger.
Not saying ROM didn't had its downs, as it is rn its current status with the P2W and F2P players with ROO is pretty much the same with P2W players being untouchable monsters. But that's the thing, it took ROM several years to reach this state, because the devs weren't that predatory with the monetization. While ROO LNA reached this point in only a couple months because of how greedy and predatorish their devs are.
Immortal MBGG, if you are reading this, as someone who has seen several p2w games die, I just wanted to warn you that it's very hard for games once reached this point to improve, and even if they do, it's even harder for them to recover its player base confidence once its been lost, people that left usually feel so liberated that very hardly decide to come back and new players will feel discouraged once they see how incredibly far the gap between them and top players is. If you wan't to keep playing its ok, but i really suggest to keep from investing more on them unless they actually show improvement, the more you keep investing, the harder it will be to separate from it if they keep sinking themselves lower.
Agreed. Whales don't really bother me since I don't even enjoy pvp, the problem for me is that ROO is sooo mentally exhausting and time consuming :( I've played ROM for 4 years before quitting ('cause my friends stopped playing it) but I've been playing ROO for just 3 months and I'm already ready to quit...

Most of your pros about ROM are wrong.
In ROM changing Jobs is paid. They provide buffs forcing you to buy all classes. They even sold collab classes every release they come op then they nerf and sell a new one.
ROM permanent dmg% ins't predatory? Good luck trying to win against a 100%+ dmg deposit whale.
You're right about events tho, they are good and fun in ROM.
Stamina stuff and weekly/daily only was improved after years after release.
About maps and classes in both games.
ROM maps aren't the same as classic Ragnarok, most of them are downscaled, some maps missing, mvps missing, etc.
ROO maps are mostly same as classic Ragnarok and we already got most main cities. ROM came 4 years before ROO so it has more content overall obviously.
@@tmtlopes Yes you have to initually buy the new class you want to use, but once you do its yours forever and you can change to it any time you want while out of combat, letting you play several on the same character and sharing progression. While in ROO just leveling a single job its allready a huge time investment, thats why very little people focus on more than a single job at the same time.
When i said the p2w was a time bomb that eventually blew up i was specifically talking about the permanent dmg% by deposit; yes its been day from day 1 but since everyone was just starting togueter the difference wasnt too much until the gap started widening and people starting having over 50%-100% permanent damage increases. However with only 2 gacha items granting permanent 1% increase monthly (correctly if i'm wrong either monthly or bi weekly). It took literally years for ROM to reach a states where whales where just too powerfull to catch up. ROO managed it in less than 2 months.
Also what do you mean 4 years apart?, Rom was released in 2019 and the korean server for ROO on 2020.
I do admit that ROO take more care with portraying the original look of the classic RO cities, but there is no excuse that 4 years later after the game first server launch they havent even released the expanded jobs yet but summoner, wich is a weird choice since it was the very last new job branch to release in classic. Specially since working Gunslinger skills have been in the game files since day 1.
I'm not telling people "go play ROM is better" lol no. At this point i wouldn't recommend anyone to play ROM, let alone new players. I'm not saying ROM was better than ROO its "now", but it was definitely better on the first couple years of its life since devs weren't shoving you P2W offers down your throat every single day, and besides the gacha deposit permanent % increase the gap between F2P players and P2W took much, much longer than ROO to widen it before getting to its unreachable point.
Again, it's been only 2 months, only 2 months since the LNA server opened and you have devs allready offering mythic costumes worth 1500$ to players. Remember me when ROM devs ever released anything to bribe you to spend over 1 grand on a single offer then i'll admit they were as predatorish as ROO devs.
This is a decision I fight against with everyday

I miss the old true MMORPG like WoW wherein money is not the basis of getting stronger, if may binebenta man, mostly skins lang, not paying to get stronger. I get that they need money to make the game keep running, but I'm pretty sure may mga bibili pa din ng mga skins just to support the devs. I mean kung may bibili nga ng senseless funkpop na wala naman kadating dating e, eto pa kaya. I'd rather buy a gunpla, action figure or statues than a funkpop, at least pag statue mas astig tignan, ang funko ang baduy na nga tignan e di pa mapopose ng astig. I do agree one of the best mmropgs and best ragnarok game out there. Choose your own battle, enjoy your own pacing. Ive played many mmorpgs and trust me this is more f2p friendly compare to other games. If you want to play a fair game wherein you only rely on gaming skills go play valorant, dota, ml etc.

The only thing that's making me continue playing the game is maximizing my Ranger. When I get lv100 Astral Sign and the Warg Job Sigil comes, and if the Warg Job Sigil sucks, that's probably when I'll think about quitting. XP

We've develop new habit to integrate ROO in our daily life for 1 year. It isn't easy just to throw that habit away. I've tried to reduce it little by little.

For f2p, if u have higher than 5k pvp damage bonus, u must be very very very very very very lucky. Maybe u get 1st prize on bapho raffle or poring deck.

To be fair, this game is good and great fun for as long as you can keep up and can spend at the minimum the kafra passes and daily nyan passes. It’s just that once you get left behind and you’re a solo player like me, then you’ll have a hard time getting people to keep you in their parties

A game fairing on the p2w side isn’t inherently bad. It’s the lengths Ragnarok goes to. They have no ceiling on how much power can be bought. No p2w ceiling drives players away, and pressures whales into Mastercard battles. It’s bad for the health of the game and its population numbers, but it’s good for Gravity’s quarterly reports. They simply do NOT care about their playerbase.
i have high hopes for Tarisland, they have advertised it several times as a non p2w game, the only moment something seemed slighty p2w on the beta tests they removed it inmediatly, and they actually seem to be hearing players comments as they have done several quality of life improves based on their suggestions.
Well, if you're still enjoying, go play. But as long as people keep playing games that are too p2w then new games will just be as p2w if not more. I have to disagree with the part that most of the people that are playing are the ones silent. In reality, majority of those who quit are the ones who exit silently and moved on (majority, not all), while some of those saying dead game are even still playing. New contents like waiting for new jobs will never work because there are only 2 jobs: Whales and Others (high-spend, mid-spend, f2p). Read about sunk-cost fallacy and free yourself bro. haha.
I spent $12,000 within two months on LNA. That isn’t a flex- that’s just highlighting the fact that I’m normally a big spender. I whale really hard, but the way Ragnarok demands and pressures is actually insane. I realized how the business model is just a never ending cesspit. I simply deleted my character in order to move on, and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

I spent 21k USD already but thats for 1 year (im from PH so im on SEA server) but cant compete with whales (I have max feathers but red sigils are almost impossible to max (350k nyans per red sigil almost) and differences on type E modules etc requires spending more). its true, its a never ending money-pit. ROO simply is the worst out there. this is truly a game who spends the most, wins. On other games, 12k and 21k usd respectively can be competitive with everyone until the end game.
