I started at Shell in 2010 and made just over $90k my first year at just 20 years old. A two year petrochemical degree really pays.
Shell martinez?
I made 120k last year all I’ve got is a cn ticket which took a week to get mmmm wonder which one I would do lol
@@largenutz really?
smile cute yea buddy Australia wa
like
Started working for Delek US at 18 last year, took a few college credit classes but never could finish as I had a daughter, at 19 this past year made 110k as an Operator running a CAT/Boilers unit... don’t let people discourage you just because you’re young
Can you guve me some tips, 21 here working in a plant as a scaffold builde
Keep applying dude.. every operator job you see apply. Ones bound to give you a chance
Just got hired at a refinery as a process operator with no experience due to having a bachelor's degree in an unrelated field. I have one month until start date what should i study in this month? I am nervous about not knowing anything right now
I wanna do this after high school, I’m taking a p-tech class in high school , and im aiming towards this feel after high school
@@mauricemelancon4967 that’s all I had was p tech courses from high school
I’m a process operator at an oil refinery and I just want to say you do NOT need a degree to get a job. I never even knew what a process operator was until I heard about the aptitude test they were giving and went to test. I passed test, killed the interview and got hired. Many of the operators I know don’t have any type of degree related to the field. I know I got lucky because there were many applicants but I just don’t want people to think that it’s mandatory to have the degree and not even try. Good luck to all.
i have to take an aptitude test next month for PBF Energy, please any tips on how to nail it?
I’m in the same boat right now man. Took a test, passed, my interview is Thursday. No schooling either. Super nervous but excited
Same bro I just go the job ! Barely graduated highschool and I’m making 24 an hour
May I ask where did you sign up at?
Just got hired in a oil refinery in the same situation. I am nervous due to knowing nothing about the field and have one month before the start date, what should i study studying this month please?
You know this guy had a father or grandfather that got him the job. No question
İts all politics
Bullcrap. Anyone can get a job with the right attitude. I got my job as an automation tech right out of college. I literally walked into the place, impressed the engineer and walked out with a handsome salary for someone whose only 22....
+LaBalaDePlata432 sure anyone can get a job. But not a job like this kid has right out of school. With no father or grandfather there, an oil company is not hiring a kid like this at 100,000 a year.
+Eric Jones na it's definitely not 100k thats forsure... I started closer to 70
Im sure he's around that. The plant techs i know at the power plant start around the same 34-36 an hour. Top out at 45 after some time
Bullshit…Hard to fill positions my ass. These positions are hard to get unless you know someone..
I got lucky and was hired by Dow Chemical a few years back, eventually they shut down that plant but that experience I gained got me a great job as a Reactor Operator, making twice what my friends do. The industry isn't demanding on your body and the fellow people you work with are in my experience pretty great because of the lives these type of jobs afford them.
Which plant at Dow?
I plan on being a process operator when I graduate highschool then go to a community college
Don't do it stay in school....chemical operator jobs suck....I do it and hate it.!!! Let's just say that specialty chemical operator jobs suck. Maybe if your working in a refinery like this video depicts its probably not bad at all. But working with reactors where you have to charge raw material to them sometimes hundreds of 50 pound bags and then vacuum charge liquid out of drums during the summer months really sucks. Working in a refinery though where it's a continuous process, and you make your rounds and take readings, maybe pull a sample....that's not bad at all.
Joe C. Why?
@@Joe_1971 yea working in a refinery is mostly ass time lol 39.10 an hour to nap
@@Tomwatson6798 lol he’s lying
Great job.... if you can get hired anywhere! I graduated top of my class and can't get a call back from anyone!
A job in process operations recommends a college degree, but it’s not mandatory, usually with 2-5 years - any refinery is going to hire you with the experience.
Imagine having a 4 year degree in Agriculture making $40k a year with $50k in student loans. While working for the state as an inspector for 6 years... I'm wondering would my experience and AG degree help me excel in this position
Last year $238k as a senior operations technician.
Being born and raised in the port Arthur area this is everyday stuff to me, get a 2 year degree make 100K plus, however it's gotten to where you have to know someone. Not a job everywhere either, it's pretty specific to the gulf coast area.....nowhere else can a 2 year degree bring in 100-250K a year. Crazy
Dallas Stanley 2 year degree in what?
Dallas Stanley uh try Odessa and Midland, and then come to me again with this false post. Plus this degree is used mainly in the oil and gas industry which pays a lot! Obviously you can’t compare a 2 year industrial tech or instrumentation degree with another 2 year degree. Common Sense
Also from PA, I think I’m gonna go for process operating
If I had a kid that sucked in high school and lacked any kind of dreams on what they wanted to do I would tell them to get into this field.
I have the process technician degree and it pays well not 90k well but better than most 4 year degree jobs
This might be my next career. I currently operate refinery machines but I turn raw material into chocolate not plastic or gas. I currently make 27.96 an hour but I’m planning on staying for 5 more years until I Pay off my truck. By then I’ll probably be at 32 or 33 an hour but the refinery’s around my job are now starting at 36-41-47 an hour and with a pension at some of them which is hard to ignore.
Just start applying now especially if youre willing to move you might get hired quick
Just saw an online application not long ago and it’s serious the starting with no experience was $25/hr and at qualified confirmation it was at $42/hr
What city?
can u give more information as to where is this located please
For No Experience people who needs it like Myself
Young people, it is being handed to you. Apply yourself and look at what you can do!
I'm a truck driver who frequently goes to these plants and it's not uncommon to hear of these plant operators making well over $100k.
jeff ghant does it really take a 2 year associates degree?
Christian Hernandez Depends on the plant. Many don't require a degree. You just take a written test, do an interview, and some other basic stuff. But truthfully, your chances of getting hired are increased if you know someone working there already. That's how a lot of people get in. Of course you have to graduate high school and have a super clean criminal record.
Mate weeks course getting your cn ticket for a crane get a job as a reach stacker operator that picks up containers and I made 120k plus’s last year
i'm in the Uk, and did 35 years of process operating, and never earned anything like that
@@ianmaddocks3551 I live in the US. Some of these guys make too much money.
Lucky Bastard I’d kill for his job! Look more optimistic!
Plant Life! 12 hours a day!
12's are easy 16's are what sucks
Plenty of over night shifts also!
@Skrooge Lantay riiight!! Shit's sick😀
12hr shifts, potentially 16hrs. Overtime.... I'm good at 120k Mon- Friday
Funny I have had a process operations degree for almost a year and can't find a job. I've applied from Louisiana up to Arkansas and to Alabama. Currently working at a chemical plant with a contractor but the money is not near as good as it should be if working for the actual company and not a third party.
that true what you say. you are right all tha way. you know your stuff.
How you doing now
You ever found a job. knew a guy who took like 4 years to get a job cuz he didn't anybody in the industry
I can wait for my chance and I pray that I fit very nicely into the role of a process operator .
+joidice slack what do you mean your chance? Its a dangerous job but the pay makes it worth risking your life everyday.
They all want experience. School doesn't hurt though. Ethanol is the easiest to get into, although the pay is very shitty compared to power plants and process plants.
I'm a processoperator with pharma speciale in novo nordisk in Denmark. I mass produce insulines. the paycheck is like winning a lottery every 4 weeks some people never even win once in theire life time ^^ processoperator is for sure the best thing i ever did for myself. Money isnt or will never be a problem, making above 3 times what a policeman earns here in dk, almost feels too dirty ^^
This is really inspiring, sounds like you did the right choice
Is it not poisonous work?
can a handicap & disable person work in oil field companies? yes or no thank you . good show..plu on the oil rigs too? yes or no
I'm a combo welder and pipeffitter last year i work 9 months only make 130 k
Emerson lavosier what kind of degree u got
Hmmm....but you didn't tell us where you work and what steps to get there***
@@sassysandra5822 true still waiting
If you need the money it’s worth the grind
Those 12 hour rotating shifts really can get to you tho. It’s not a normal life.
Are there any of these types of jobs in Phoenix Az...? I work for a chemical manufacturer in VA as a process operator and make six figures...I want to move to where its warm..Anyone know of any chemical or process operator jobs in Phoenix that pay 30-35 per hour? No desire to move to Texas, etc.. focused on Arizona..thanks
My name is also River Phoenix and im also a process operator! I work in the Netherlands
Trying to get in this is college hard ain’t really good at math
Hello, I work at a gas distribution station in the operator's office. Can I come to America and work there in my profession? From Azerbayjan
and im doing litteraly the same job for 2.5 clean after taxes. in a chemical company in belgium.
i need to move to the USA lmao
valt nog goed mee hoor, je verdiend tegen de 4,5k bruto, in America word je amper belast op je bruto dus ze verdienen eigenlijk evenveel/minder. En 100k halen ze nooit, maak daar maar 60-70k van max
What does that equate to in dollars? Just curious.
where do I apply for these jobs? I have a Bachelor's and a class A license.
in your local area,
They are called process tech, process operators, chemical operators, lokk for them, this like most news is just bullshit i recently graduated from houston CC with this degree it is very competitive and your chances of landing a job are just as good as mine, i currently knownonly 5 people doing this 2 of which are only interns not full time
@@luisvilla799 damn really :/ i was really considering this field. Was schooling difficult?
@@Kevin-ii3df no not at all its a joke i never studied and maintained a 3.08 gpa its even easier if you have a mechanical background but community colleges in texas and Louisiana have them, degree and offer them
I'm in highschool right now and I'm going to go to university of Houston next fall and get a chemical engineering degree is that good for a process operator? or is there a better position I should look into
Vert The Ptech degree is more specific to the position
not really I have the process operator degree and work with chemical engineers and I am miles ahead of them in this kind of work.
Vert, Do some research on the position on the websites www.Indeed.com, www.glassdoor.com Type the position in the job search bar and see which companies are hiring for chemical engineers and the salary, reviews from employees. All the best to you, you are making good moves, because there are no engineers not making a decent salary!
I suck at higher math,so i know for sure im not gonna be able to work in place like that.
Not needed. The highest level of math is only college algebra and that's the highest. Usually contemporary math is fine. I know at Lamar institute of technology you don't need higher math to get the degree
Dallas Stanley so would i only need a 2 year associates degree?
thats correct, its called a process technology degree, not all colleges offer it cause its relevant to the oil indsutry. lit.edu has the degree listed on their website
Basic education is all you need to be a process operator.Unless you want to be an engineer.Running a plant isn't really that difficult, it just needs common sense
Anxiously looking my ass. They get 5000 applicants for 10 positions open. At least my refinery did.
I have just graduated high school and want to work at a refinery, I want to have a good paying salary and stable job any recommendations?
Did u watch the video about the Process Operator/Technology position?
Join the service. I did liquid fuels maintenance in the Air Force after which helped get my foot in the door at Texaco years ago. Otherwise you’ll probably have to know someone on the inside or just be lucky.
Poor security... not gloves, not googles, not ear protection, only muff and this is not level 3 for that noise envyroment.🤨
I have 1 year left guys I just turned 22
LakeandRiver Yea you can make a decent living being a chemical operator, but you can make any even better living as a chemical engineer. More money, better work environment.
It basically boils down to "Do you want sweaty quackish" on a daily basis. Now quackish is portuquese slang for underwear. That's the difference between the engineer and the operator. One sweats and one doesn't.
R Allen so with a 2 year degree associates i can apply for this job?
What's better then engeneer or operator?
Anyone else here from DuPont?
Bullshit! "short of filling job"s i went to exxon phase 2 test they told use 10000 people applied at phase 3 all of use had the process tech degree but no job experience or relative few experience only a couple had years experience, about 12 of my buddies that graduated with me from Houston CC only54 where offered 2 of those were interships only
Getting hired then getting the company to pay for your degree is the way forward.
Graduated in 2015. Now if I can get hired !
Don't give up is the key! Even u have to move to accept a position, be ready for it. I am encouraging my nephew to pursue this career as well. If u never try, how well u know success., All the best to u+++
Did you land a job has a process op?
He'll age 5 years for every year he works...it's rough.
The Dude thats not true, have you Seen my coworkers?
That’s not true at all 😂
If he invested wisely hes Probably retired by now lol
quit working people to death with long 60 - 100 hour work weeks and let them spend some time with their families and you might be able to keep employees
Process Operators do it better!
The interview process is ridiculous, 10,000 applicants for a 20 person job opening.
So noisy
Does this require a degree?
Alexander The Greek yes
No degree. I should know. Me and about 90% of the process operators in our SoCal plant don’t have any degree related to this field.
No.
