Carl Jung, together with Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler, is one of the 3 founders of psychoanalysis which is a set of psychological theories and methods aiming to release repressed emotions and experiences - in other words, to make the unconscious conscious. Jung was born in Switzerland in 1875 and died in 1961, leaving behind great works in the fields of psychiatry, anthropology, archaeology, literature, philosophy, psychology and religious studies. Jung had Freud as a mentor for a good part of his career but later he departed from him. This division was painful for Jung and it led him to found his own school of psychology, called analytical psychology as a comprehensive system separate from psychoanalysis. If classical psychoanalysis focuses on the patient’s past, as early experiences are very important in personality development, analytical psychology primarily focuses on the present, on mythology, folklore, and cultural experiences, to try to understand human consciousness. One of the most important ideas of analytical psychology which Jung founded is the process of individuation, which is the process of finding the self - something Jung considered an important task in human development. While he did not formulate a systematic philosophy, he is nonetheless considered a sophisticated philosopher - his school of thought dubbed “Jungian philosophy”. Its concepts can apply to many topics covered in the humanities and the social sciences. A good part of his work was published after his death and indeed there are still some articles written by him that to this day have yet to be published. Some of his most important books are: “Psychology of the Unconscious”, “Man and His Symbols”, “The Archetypes and The Collective Unconscious”, “Modern Man In Search of a Soul”, “The Psychology of the Transference”, “Memories, Dreams, Thoughts”, and “The Relations Between the Ego and the Unconscious”. Besides being a great writer and a researcher, he was also an artist, a craftsman and even a builder. His contribution is enormous and there is a great deal we can learn from his works.

"The healthy man does not torture others- generally it's the tortured who turn into torturers". That one really hits home. We need to protect all children from later becoming tortured souls and raise them to be healthy healers.

    • @Jay-xh9dl
      @Jay-xh9dl Před 2 lety +7

I agree, but I argue that we also need to be more empathetic toward the "torturers", even in adulthood, to help them overcome what should and could only be temporary distraught. Otherwise, we perpetuate their suffering and our own or the suffering of others who will inevitably come into contact with them. It's extremely difficult to do, but I truly think this is a turn we must take to stop the alienation and ultimate degradation of others for mistakes and wrongdoings that only hardens and solidifies their character to continue such behavior ad infinitum (which consequently slings back and causes more pain to healthy individuals). To be frank, we must take responsibility for aiding in the process of the tortured becoming torturers, and do what we can to prevent it and learn to recognize all "underdeveloped" persons as "children" to the extent that they have yet to cultivate moral integrity that allows them to live in harmony with dominant societal ideals and laws and recognize them as potential and assist them with their rising to the standards we collectively set. We label mental "illnesses" and people who struggle momentarily as "addicts" or "alcoholics" or "abusers" or "manics" that suffer in perpetuity due to the negative affects of the alienation that causes self-hate, insecurity, and so on which again, manifest pain and suffering into the hearts of the "healthy". We need to work together and stop alienating ourselves using archaic methods of social policing and recognize that the better the masses the better the individual, not the other way around.

Prevention is best because the cost to cure a "torturer" can be astronomical and the chance for failing to do so is very high.
Because most torturers have a neurotic pride and would rather believe they are better than what reality shows them to be.
      Time to face facts.
(1)Evil people are primarily created through bad childhoods.
(2)And the modern Family Courts exercise the most power on who raises a child from a broken homes.
(3)The results of these Family Court judges speak for themselves. With regard to choosing the most fit parent we have aggregate data for children with regard to {prison-rates, suicide-rates, teen parent-rates, graduation-rates, depression-rates, etc...).
(4)The data shows that between fathers and mothers, HAVING A FATHER IN THE HOME has a FAR STRONGER impact in improving their children's lives than having a mother.
(5)The data also shows with BOTH the father and mother are in the home, the child raising results are stronger than a single -father household.
So women who divorce their husbands are choosing themselves over their children's well being. i.e. They love their ego more than their children.
So by adopting the belief that Marriage Is primarily For Raising Strong Children first and not to make the parents happy, Evil in the world would shrink.

@@richardkalmwater5996 This is precisely the fallacy I'm refuting; viewing all uncultivated adults as lost causes. Sure, prevention is "best" but you're simply not rationalizing the consequence of letting those "evil" (non-confirmative behavior is a better term) adults roam free after your violent and harsh social policing that perpetuates the downward spiral that was first instigated by bad parenting. I certainly don't know all the answers, but I know that most people rise to the occasion and become high performing members of a community when they find/create purpose and responsibility and truly, somehow and someday, feel capable, valuable, and worthy of respect and love. I know this for a fact, and so I stand by my previous words; we need to establish a system that is designed to cultivate and develop moral and critical thinking beings (that is not dogmatic religion).

@@Jay-xh9dl (1)Carl Rogers, who was a legendary sociologist, knew his limits.
He understood that if a person doesn't want to change, then you can't help them. I know people who work with the homeless and eventually they learned that too many homeless have inflated egos and are not willing to change. This is the norm for most people who need help...homeless or not.
(2)For the people who hurt others and won't change, putting them in prisons may not help them but, it protects the rest of society from their evil.
(3)Just like we will "total" a car that costs more to fix than it is worth, bad people who refuse to change need to totaled and sent to a place where they can't hurt others.

      Don’t think ‘pausing ‘is Jungian?
It sounds as though you’re frightened of what analysis might reveal? Indeed. Facing your shadow takes a lot of guts.
But you won’t be whole without accepting the dark bits. Then you learn compassion for yourself and thereby others.
Jung was an utterly exceptional brilliant man, whose scope of understanding of humanity was panoramic.
This bots voice is a real bore.

      @ml-ec5dw Před 2 lety

@@janel342 Jung was approached by a medical doctor who told him he would like to become an Analyst (Jungian style). When Jung asked him about his life the doctor replied it was perfect - he said he had the perfect job, the perfect wife, in fact the perfect life. Hmm, thought Jung, the perfect life eh. So, he instructed the doctor to go away and the following week present him with any dreams he could remember. A week later the doctor returned and told Jung he dreamt of entering a large empty room, except there was a naked young child sitting in the middle on the floor covered in excrement. "What does it mean?" the doctor asked Jung. He replied that he didn't know and then told the doctor to go back to his perfect life and forget about being an analyst. What he went onto explain was that the native child covered in excrement meant was that the doctor had a deep lying psychosis just waiting to be awakened and that any form of analysis would do just that.
Delving into the depths of the unconscious is and can be a dangerous activity and therefore one should take care and look before you leap, because there is more to the totality of the unconscious than simply the shadow to concern you. I recommend you read the first few sections of Jung's Red Book (Liber Novus) as you will find a description by Jung of his own initial experiences and how he said that 'Divine Madness' holds many similarities to a psychosis itself.
      All the best

No. I agree that you have to face it. Jung's own statement bears this out. We are beasts, we need to accept your inner beast. It's a shadow that exists even if ignored. You use your inner beast to fight another beast. Within legal constraints of course. We are taught religious, moral and societal constraints against being " evil", but psychopaths ,murderers, criminals etc don't follow these " rules". Believe me, these people exist, and you'll need to fight them one day, and if you ignore your own beast you'll be fighting yourself.

    * 12:53 > Primitive superstition lies just below the surface of even the most tough-minded individuals. ~ C. G. Jung (be aware of snakes, whether real or imaginary)
    * 15:42 > Thinking is difficult, that is why most people judge. ~ C. G. Jung (we rush to judge. learn about their motives)
    * 17:44 > Through pride we are ever deceiving ourselves. But deep down below the surface of the average conscience a stil, small voice says to us, "something is out of tune". ~ C. G. Jung (pride hides self-delusion. remain equanimous through good and bad)
    * 19:56 > Life really does begin at forty. Up until then, you are just doing research. ~ C. G. Jung (it takes time "to grow feathers" and 40 seems to be the middle point between learning and experimenting. 42 = 84 / 2)
    * 22:22 > The reason for evil in the world is that people are not able to tell their stories. ~ C. G. Jung (everybody wants to be heard.)
This resonates a lot, must be the age and circumstances.

Carl Jung's profound insights continue to resonate today, offering invaluable life lessons. From introspection to integrating our contraries, his wisdom guides us towards wholeness. Analyzing dreams unveils hidden truths, while facing reality fosters growth. Understanding collective consciousness and refraining from judgment enriches empathy. Embracing vulnerability and telling our story propel us towards individuation.

Oh!How right is this Great Man! I must say i never knew .much of his Brand of Psychology & to be honest what Precious Gem have I found...
His ideas are very real, something that if we all practised will no doubt get to Sanctuary, much much faster if you practice it as he sees his Style & believes in it through & True! I love that how the presented episode had no Psycho Babble like many so called Specialist in Psychiatrist/Psychologists tend to drop around the place usually mostly for show especially in Group Therapy!I love his candidness& the simplest way he put his ideas across and if followed there is a kind of Nirvana for you oviously dependent on you dedication &understanding his Brand of Solving Mental health problems! I am engrossed & will attempt to find more his work NOW Thankyou for putting this up.it is has been A Good Day Indeed! After all knowledge is power! In YES?

When you make the decision and aware and discover your shadow the liberation/fear you feel at the same time is overwhelming. But once you are completely awake and see the big picture it will change your whole perception on people the world and the circulatory structure. It really does begin. All your senses will broaden you will be more sympathetic and understanding about the events, settings conditions and people. It becomes a responsibility a burden and also a gift. Honestly this is just a good opportunity to try and impress someone with a 5:min tube video on phycology for others it is a chapter in our research we have been doing our whole lives. The 1-2% that did discover some insight and opened an infant eye.. someone somewhere is going through the same experience except completely different.

“Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
“There's no coming to consciousness without pain.”
“Like plants, so men also grow, some in the light, others in the shadows. There are many who need the shadows and not the light.”
“Your visions will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes.”
“To be "normal" is a splendid ideal for the unsuccessful.”
“If the path before you is clear, you’re probably on someone else’s.”
“Where your fear is, there is your task.”

Jung broke with Freud's psychoanalysis and rejected Freud's method of sitting behind the client and other methods. Jung's main method was called active imagination and recommended to the person after the beginning stages of psychotherapy. However it is a mistake to call it "philosophy." Jung repeatedly said that he was doing empirical psychology, NOT philosophy.

I love the psychology of groupthink, some people can get so excited, it's those moments we should cherish. Enjoying life with our fellow man, even if such joy is misplaced. Life is about moments, if we don't take advantage of those moments and live a little what's it all mean?

7:02 No...this is a formula for disaster. Most people do not know the difference between their emotions and their feelings. The difference are huge.
    (a) With feelings, you pay attention to the PHYSICAL SENSATIONS in your body which are often messages from our unconscious minds.
    (b) Emotions are based in the ego and in pride, which prevents us from seeing reality. And when you can't see reality, your fall is imminent...
NEVER trust your emotions other than a diagnosis of a weakness in you.
However, I do believe in trusting the FEELINGS you feel in your body and understand what your unconscious mind is trying to communicate.
