- Our ship went to a floating drydock for inspections and repair. Here, she was lifted out of the waters and made to sit on keel blocks for a whole week.
.
A lot of things happened on this drydock which I will show on this video. From our ship's arrival, lowering of the anchors, painting of our ship's hull, and of course, all of our crew going down to the dock for a group picture. ☺️☺️☺️
Hello 👋 I have noticed a similar question from some of you.
"Why do some ships have more shackles on one anchor?"
-This is because ships need to follow requirement from Classification Societies (IACS) which in regard to anchor required certain length of anchor chain, anchor weight, etc.
-So, for example, on one ship, the Class required them to have 550 meters length of anchor chain. Divide it by 27.5mtrs, which is one shackle, and we get 20 shackles. Then both anchors will have 10 shackles.
-But if, say another ship is required to have 577.5 mtrs in length, so 21 shackles right? Then one of the anchor will have 11, and the other will have 10.
-This calculation will differ from ship to ship as each will have their own specification. 🙂
Ma'am question po sana po masagot.Ma'am meron po bang Bsme/t sa Pmma na hindi masyadong magaling sa math ganon?

Thank you Outrider! I always appreciate these kind words. It makes me feel very motivated! 😊
Please be reminded that drydock is the most dangerous workplace for seafarers. The risk of fire, explosion, fall, slips, electrocution, gas and toxic inhalation are the popular risks that seafarers should be aware of. Be vigilant always when you make your safety and security rounds, no room for complacency. It's a big sigh of relief when you leave drydock. Stay safe bunkmate.
Thank you Sir! I appreciate the concern ☺️ And it does feel good now that we left the drydock 😊

Great I ave same pictures somewhere I took under the US Yorktown and the Kitty Hawk. Both ships are not it service. The Yorktown is a. Mueseme now and the Kitty Hawk will go for scrap later this year.
I hope one day I'll be able to visit them. It seems like they hold a lot of memories to you. 🙂
keep safe second
Interesting that the port and starboard anchors have different numbers of shackles. Is there a reason they're not symmetrical?
Yes. To comply with the requirement of Class Society in regards to length of anchor chain. For example, the Class require a ship to carry 577.5mtrs of anchor chain. One shackle measures 27.5mtrs which makes up for 21 shackles. So one anchor will have 11 shackles, and the other 10. 🙂
Ingat
Thanks for such a nice video, i was wondering is it allowed to record video onboard or u got permission from company?
Yes it is allowed since our ship is in gas free 🙂
@@deannana4617 Okay thank you :)
Already watched this new one.
Love the content.
#1 question: what's the main reason for having different quantity of shackles port/stbd side?
Thks for the subtitles and thks for sharing with all of us. Best wishes from Spain.
Salamat, Nadine.
Thank you Rahepla! 🙂 You too.
For your question:
It's to comply for the Class requirement regarding length of anchor chain. For example one ship is required to carry 577.5 meters in length of anchor chain. Divide it by 27.5mtrs which is one shackle and we get 21 shackles. Then one anchor will have 11 shackles and the other 10. 🙂
@@deannana4617 thks for your quick and kind reply.
Just waiting for your new episode to come😍
