    Here's my tip, I hope this will help people with the synergy between musical elements in their beats and save them some frustration looking for complementing sounds. This works particularly well with synthesized sounds as I think it gives the most flexibility for this technique. So you have some sounds already laid down in your track but you want to add more. You've been trying different sounds but can't seem to find something that fits with what you already have. Lets say you have your chords written but you are looking for a pluck sound to create a melody to go with the chords, you keep trying different sounds but nothing seems to feel quite right.
    What you can do is, rather than look for a totally new sound, you can repurpose the sound you've used for the chords. All you need to do is copy the chord sound (ie. the sound patch, not musical notes) but make some edits to it, shorten the decay on it to create a pluck sound, add some effects, maybe distortion, delay, eq, etc. You can also play the sound in a different octave to your chords to further differentiate between the two. By repurposing what you already have in the beat, you are automatically creating a sound that will sympathise well with the other element, as both sounds will have the same foundation, this will create an underlying cohesive feel between the two. Once you have done this don't forget to re-evaluate the sound you started with (ie. the sound you used for your chords) maybe go back to the chord sound and shave off a little bit of the upper frequencies so there is some space for your pluck fit in, again further differentiating between the two sounds. I know it sounds like a simple technique and seems pretty obvious but try it out next time you get stuck, I think you will be surprised with the results.
    With that said lets just take a step back for a second and think about the amount of time we as producers spend, clicking next on the preset menu of whatever instrument we are using, what if you actually already had the sound you were looking for? you just needed to edit it slightly, wouldn't that be kind of annoying to find out (sorry for dropping that one on you, I know how much it hurts). I'll leave you with one last thing to think about, maybe I'm crazy but I bet that you can actually complete the method I described and have some kind of melody etc. written into your track, in the time it takes you to find a suitable sound by clicking next on a preset menu... it's just a hunch that I have... I'm sorry for the long message, I hope this will make sense to others out there and I wish you all success on your music making journey. Peace! ☮️☮️☮️

    It's a very useful tip to use less sounds and trying to make them sound fuller.
    Did you do a video on that? If not I would appreciate this because if I try to do this I don't really know what I do and most of the times the sounds don't really improve. Therefore I seldom use more than two to three plugins on one mixer track.
    And I got an idea for your video arrangement. I think it would be cool if you shortly summed up all points in the and as a little recap so people don't have to skip to the video to remember all tipps you gave at once. Plus we can screenshot it.

    i love you lol the way you explained the keep it simple concept changes everything for me, i had quit watching youtube for producing for the most part aside from the occasional refreshers because i felt like everything was made for beginners and im 3 years in now so i always feel like youtube fails me now because most of the time i click on videos, its about stuff i still do and already know so it becomes frustrating when i come to youtube for specific complicated problems and no one has videos but the way you explain things just hits different for an intermediate level even when its a beginner video, like the concept of keeping it simple meaning using less sounds to fill up the most space just hit me, other youtubers made it sound like you should use more simple rhythms and i always dismissed the idea because i just knew professional producers had very complicated rhythms and sounds so i would just change instruments after like 8 bars and put a ton of effects to compensate for what i misunderstood in the first place, but now that you explain it that way i think i can hit the next lvl and be just a little bit closer to becoming pro, thank you so much, now i will watch your videos all over again to see what i missed a few years ago!

      @@NavieD You're welcome. Sorry I haven't been around for awhile. I got a new synth and 2 newer standalone MPCs and their whole software that I had to learn how to use. I had to learn new terminologies and everything. Lol FL was great for getting me back into making music but I started feeling like I was missing something. Lol I started on hardware back in the early 2000s then screwed my life up for awhile. Finally got my stuff together and wanted to take this more serious so I bought an entire studio setup. It was more something I had to do for myself rather than an improvement on the music. Waking up and seeing all that stuff every day let's me know that I accomplished something. That and I'd like to start finding local talent and the setup I have now looks way better than the old laptop I had. I could've got some midi controllers an interface and a mic and called it a wrap. But I always wanted an MPC and now I have 2 of them. Lol
      Anyway, that was probably more than you wanted or cared to hear. But in conclusion I kind of know how to do everything I need to do as far as how to get everything to work the way I need it to in the MPC and MPC software, now I can focus more on all this other stuff again like sound design, mixing and whatnot.
      FYI, MPC is AWESOME but if anyone here that reads this decides to go that route, know that it is a whole nother beast you'll have to learn that won't be easy. However, all the stuff you learn in whatever software or hardware you're using does cary over, in some cases there's different ways of going about it and different terminologies. I DONT recommend making a drastic switch like this unless you're like me and prepared for the transition or you would just like to add another tool to your current workflow (because you can use it as a plug-in in FL).
      All I can say is the transition in some ways was easier than I expected and I'm other ways harder than I expected.
      Anyway, gotta get back at it, if you actually read all this, I salute you for reading one of my ADHD rants. 🤣

    you called yourself a beatmaker in the beginning & I can appreciate that. theres no shame in being a beatmaker & not a record producer. plenty producers arent even good beatmakers (or beatmakers at all)

    • @NavieD
      @NavieD  Před 3 lety +3

      Yeah I don't like the stigma that people try to attach to the word "beatmaker" just to try and make themselves look superior as "producers". It's all just stupid, meaningless verbiage to me.

    • @darkskinwhite
      @darkskinwhite Před 3 lety +1

      @@NavieD Well no, they go hand in hand but the titles carry different responsibilities. Just think about it like this: Record producers & exec. (album) producers are like movie directors (because in movies the producer is just the guy who funded the movie mostly). When the rock stars in a movie the public see it as a "rock movie" right? but really all the way up until the time it was released that was the directors movie. the director is completely responsible for the final product and all its details, guiding the movie to be as perfect as possible. it makes more sense when you take it out of rap music/modern pop music & think about producers back when you had full on bands and no computers right. the reason its hard to define what a producers job is is because he doesn't have a specific task. songwriters write, musicians play, singers sing, beatmakers make beats but producers dont have one specific task, our job (this is the best way I've found to put it so far) *as producers is to take full responsibility for the record/album, even over the featured artist.* Whatever *needs* to happen for the song or album to be as well done as it possibly can be, our job is to know what that is and make it happen. Might be at the birth of the idea, the writing & arrangement stage, the recording stage, the mixing, the sequencing in the album, the mastering stage, any & everywhere in the full creative process, we take ownership of it until its time to release it under that artists name.

    • @darkskinwhite
      @darkskinwhite Před 3 lety

      @@NavieD sorry bro ik that was mad long but its important to make these distinctions because the art of producing is dwindling in music & thats very *very* detrimental to the state of music, the art, and to the listeners, the artists, & their legacies. we need beatmakers too 1000% but we shouldn't mistake these 2 words for interchangeable, they are not.

Splendid use of screen space by using a slanted split screen , felt really fresh to see a tutorial this way. i could notice the different types of pop up dialog boxes with specific colors indicating the type of information one would expect . and the suggested links on top are precise and perfectly placed with the content you were talking about. and the video pop ups were also well timed . Dope video man ! till now for me the best video so far in your channel in terms of video effects introduced .
