    Romans chapter 7, I struggle with alcohol, I think if I quit, or just cut back, I'll get closer to Jesus. I do the thing, I don't want to do, and I don't do the thing I want to do. I have it backwards. Trying to stop the alcohol, I just get disappointed, fail, and make things worse. First I need to surrender to Jesus, be obedient, and surrender to the Potters Hands, for His Will, Way, and Purpose. Quit fighting myself, and allow Jesus to fade away the alcohol. Paul was telling me, Get Your Priorities Straight, Quit Fighting, and Jesus will help you die out to self. Keep your eyes on Jesus not looking to the left or right Amen

    I had a stroke two and a half years ago. I asked God to heal me. I said to God I prayer that, although He said to Paul " My power is made complete in weakness" he doesn't say that to everyone, and still heals people. Then I became aware that I am healed already, being a Christian I am an eternal being, so I am healed, just not yet. Roman 7 and 8 need to be read in the light of this reality, we are perfect, only not yet , we strive with the flesh until we are with the Lord.

    This is so awesome! I have to give glory to God. I am in the midst of doing an in depth study of Romans for the first time in several years. I've looked at the web for other commentators insights very few times. But in going through Chapter 7 and then beginning chapter 8, I get this thought that in my life Chapter 8 could possibly be the greatest chapter in the Bible. I decide to do a web look up, to see if anyone else has thought the same. I find this series and see the same things that the I feel like have been exploding in my heart.
    I just got to say that after only watching half this video, I totally concur that Paul's experience at the end of chpt 7 is the reality for every Christian. To miss it's truth, in thinking that that was pre-salvation for Paul, and that chpt 8 is post born again experience, will only lead to frustration because of a misunderstanding of how living according to the Spirit actually works. For that matter, unwittingly, a person could end up with the mind set on the flesh, comparing themselves to a law (of what they think living by the Spirit actually looks like) and then receiving condemnation, because they see how much they fall short of it.
    Emphasized over and over in the first part of Romans and now again in 8, is this reality that the law was fulfilled for me in Christ. One receives what Christ has done by opening the door of their heart to Him, by believing on the completed work that He has accomplished for them - total and complete reconciliation now exist in Christ Jesus for me.
    The basis for my mind set on the Spirit is in me trusting in His completed work with the Holy Spirit's help (who is sent to I dwell all those who believe).
    Thank you Pastor John for fulfilling the call in you to expound on these great truths

    Abba Father, in agreement with this message according to Romans 7 I declare I believe in the law of God in my inner being through Jesus Christ, in the name and by the blood of Jesus Christ at the foot of the cross of Calvary, amen and hallelujah! Annelies Bakker, the Netherlands.

    Paul was given a thorn in the flesh for a reason. Anyone preaching sinlessness in this flesh is deceived. The closer you get to the Light, the more you see your flaws. You will never be without flaws until the day you are changed into the incorruptible and when we see Him, we shall be like Him. Last Trump. Come Quickly Lord Jesus.

      Romans 7 explained : (1.) The woman is Israel and the husband is the mediator/protector/HUSBAND , for the people ( Israel ) , in the covenant with the Father . (2.) The Israelites who refused to live by faith ( That is repenting of their sins with a sorrowful heart , like king David did ; then believing by keeping the commandments of their mediator Moses ; which he received from the Father ; which is the law of faith ) , these fell under their mediator Moses protection ; under the sin sacrifice of atonement ; which the Father gave through a priesthood , the law of animal sacrifice ; which is the law of works . (3.) So then if , while her husband Moses liveth , she be married to another man , she shall be called an adulteress ; but if her husband ( Moses ) be dead ( Hebrews 7:11-12 ) , she is free from that law ; so that she is no adulteress , though she be married to another man ( Jesus Christ ) . (4.) Wherefore , my brethren , ye also are become dead to the law ( animal sacrifice and oblations for atonement ) by the body of Christ ( repenting of your sins , and believing by obedience , the law of faith ) , even to him who is raised from the dead , that we should bring forth unto God ( 1 John 1:5-7 ) . (5.) For when we were in the flesh ( law of works , or law of animal sacrifice , or circumcision of flesh for sin through the priesthood of Leviticus ) , the motions of sins ( 1 John 3:4 the transgression of the law of God ) , which were by the law ( Hebrews 10:1-4 , or law of animal sacrifice ) , did work in our members ( flesh ) to bring forth fruit unto death . (6.) But now we are delivered from the law ( law of works , or law of animal sacrifice ; which was also called the law of sin and death ) , that being dead wherein we were held ; that we should serve in newness of spirit ( circumcised of heart for sin ) , and not in the oldness of the letter ( law of works , or circumcision of flesh for sin , through the priests , in the book of Leviticus ) .

      (7.) What shall we say then ? Is the law ( law of animal sacrifice ) sin ( 1 John 3:4 , the transgression of the law of God ) ? God forbid . Nay , I had not known sin ( 1 John 3:4 , the transgression of the law of God ) , but by the law ( law of animal sacrifice ) : for I had not known lust , except the law ( law of animal sacrifice or the law of sin and death ) had said , Thou shalt not covet ( Romans 3:20 , Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight : for by the law is the knowledge of sin ; Hebrews 10:1-4 , " 1. For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
      2. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
      3. But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
      4. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
      ) . (8.) But sin ( 1 John 3:4 , the transgressions of the law of God ) , taking occasion by the commandment ( law of animal sacrifice , or another name is ; the law of sin and death ) wrought in me all manner of concupiscence ( Romans 5:20 , " Moreover the law entered , that the offence might abound . But where sin abounded , grace did much more abound " ) . For without the law ( law of animal sacrifice , or law of sin and death ) sin ( 1 Joh 3:4 , the transgressions of the law of God ) was dead ( Romans 5:13, " For until the law ( law off animal sacrifice ) sin ( the transgression of the law of God ) was in the world ( which entered into the world when Adam transgressed against the law of God ) : but sin ( the transgression of the law of God ) is not imputed ( represents something undersirable as been done , caused or possessed by someone ) when there is no law ( law of animal sacrifice , or law of sin and death ) . What Paul is saying : Before the law of animal sacrifice was given through the mediator Moses for the sin of the flesh/body , the God of Israel required all to repent with a sorrowful heart , like king David did , through faith ; remember , grace by faith ; the priesthood of faith ( Melchisedec ) has always been available from the beginning , for the one'swho live by faith . There is no grace or mercy through the law of animal sacrifice ,and some transgressions against the laws of the Father , there were no sacrifice to protect the flesh/body ( man picking up sticks on the sabbath day ) . ( 9.) For I was alive without the law once : ( law of animal sacrifice , or schoolmaster ) but when the commandment came ( law of animal sacrifice , or law of sin and death ) , sin ( 1 John 3:4 , the transgressions of the law of God ) revived , and I died ( Ezekiel 20:24-25 , " Because they had not executed my judgments , but had despised my statutes , and had polluted my sabbaths , and their eyes were after their father's idols . Wherefore I gave them also statutes that were not good , and judgments whereby they should not live " ) . And the commandment ( circumcision of the flesh/body for sin , or the law of animal sacrifice ) which was ordained to life ( keep the earthly tabernacle or body alive ) , I found to be unto death ( law of animal sacrifice could not forgive you of the heart/spirit , or the second tabernacle , or the second death ) . ( 10.) For sin ( 1 John 3:4 ,the transgressions of the law of God ) taking occasion by the commandment ( law of animal sacrifice , or the law of sin and death ) , deceived me , and slew me ( most of Israel believed that salvation came through the law of animal sacrifice , or the law of works , or another name was the law of Moses ; because Moses was the intercessor , or husband for the people under the covenant with the Father , through the priehood of Leviticus ) . (11.) Wherefore the law ( animal sacrifice and oblations , or law of works ) is holy , and the commandments ( schoolmaster , or animal sacrifice ) holy , and just and good . ( 12.) Was then that which is good ( law of animal sacrifice or circumcision of flesh for sin ) made death unto me ( this sacrifice or atonement was for the earthly tabernacle , not th heavenly tabernacle ) ? God forbid . But sin ( 1 John 3:4 , the transgressions of the law of God ) , that it might appear sin ( 1 John 3:4 , the transgressions of the law of God ) ,working death in me by that which is good ( Hebrews 10:4 , " For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins " ; which the law of animal sacrifice was also called the law of sin and death . Once you transgress the laws of God , your circumcision is made uncircumcision , Romans 2:25 ) ; that sin ( 1 John 3:4 , the transgressions of the laws of God ) by thecommandment ( law of animal sacrifice ) might become exceeding sinful ( Romans 5:20 ) . ( 13.) For we know that the law ( law of animal sacrifice ) is spiritual : but I am carnal sold under sin ( 1 John 3:4 , the transgressions of the law of God ) . For that which I do I allow not :for what I would , that do I not ; but what I hate , that do I ( What Paul is saying , when he should keep the laws of God , that he do not ; when he go through the law of animal sacrifice for the atonement of sin , that he should not do ; but what he hate ( law of animal sacrifice ) , that do I . ( 14.) If then I do that which I would not ( make an atonement through the law of animal sacrifice ) , I consent unto the law ( law of animal sacrifice ) that it is good ( which was only for the atonement of the flesh/body , not the heart/spirit ) . ( 15.) Now then it is no more I that do it , but sin ( 1 John 3:4 , the transgressions of the law of God ) that dwelleth in me . For I know that in me ( that is in my flesh ) dwelleth no good thing ( the circumcision of flesh for sin ) : for to will is present with me ; but how to perform that which is good I find not . ( 16.) For the good that I would I do not ( repenting by faith , the law of Christ ) : but the evil which I would not , that I do ( atonement through the law of works , or animal sacrifice ) . ( 17.) Now if I do that I would not ( atonement through the law of animal sacrifice ) , it is no more I that do it , but sin ( 1 John 3:4 , transgressions of the law of God ) that dwelleth in me ( law of animal sacrifice could not forgive you of the sins of the heart/spirit , because it was not of faith ) . ( 18.) I find the a law ( law of animal sacrifice , or law of sin and death ) , that , when I would do good ( go through the law of animal sacrifice for the atonement ) , evil is present with me ( law of works could not free you of the sins of the heart/spirit ) . ( 19.) For I delight in the law of GOD after the inward man ( law of faith , circumcision of the heart for sin ; which means that you repent of your sins with a sorrowful heart , then believe by obeying your mediator Jesus Christ commandments ; which he received from the Father ) . ( 20.) But I see another law in my members , ( law of animal sacrifice ; which the Israel continued to use for the cleaning of the body , not for SIN ; that became unclean due to touching a dead body , etc... ) , warring against the law of the mind ( circumcision of the heart/spirit for sin , or the law of Christ , or the law of grace , or the law of liberty , or the law of righteousness , or the law of faith , etc... ) , and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin ( law of animal sacrifice , or the law of sin and death ) which is in my members . ( 21.) O wretched man that I am who shall deliever me from the body of this death ( law of animal sacrifice , or the law of sin and death ) ? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord ( circumcision of the heart for sin ) . So then with the mind ( The atonement of faith through Jesus Christ ) I myself serve the law of God (The commandments of the Father ; which includes all the covenants ; which are instructions to righteousness ) ; but with the flesh the law of sin ( the law of animal sacrifice for the cleaning of the flesh/body , when it become's unclean ) . When we use the word law , understand that the bible talks of three types of laws ( 1.) Laws of the Father ; which are his commandments/laws/instructions , that includes all the covenans thathe has given man from the beginning ( Adam ) to the end of the creation ( white ; throne judgment ; these are instructions for righteousness ( 2 Timothy 3:14-17 ) ; (2.) The law for the atonement of sin of the flesh/body , through the mediator Moses ; which was called the law of animal sacrifice and oblations through works , not of faith or the inward man ; (3.) The law for the atonement of sin of the heart/spirit , through the mediator Jesus Christ ; which was called the law of faith ; the blood of Christ through faith ; which is to repent of your sins with a sorrowful heart , then believe by keeping the commandments of your mediator Jesus Christ ; which he received from the Father . Shalom !

      Who was Paul ( Romans 11:1 , " I say then , Hath God cast away his people ? God forbid . For I also am an Israelite , of the seed of Abraham , of the tribe of Benjamin " ) ? Paul is an Israelite ; and the Israelites are the only nation under the laws of the Father , because they are the only nation to have made a covenant with him . The Gentiles are grafted into the covenant of Israel . Because the children of Israel were breaking his covenant without repenting by faith , like king David did ; in order to not kill their flesh/body , he gave to them through their mediator/HUSBAND , Moses , the sin atonement for the flesh , or the law of animal sacrifice and oblations , under the priesthood of Leviticus . This atonement for sin was not of faith , but of works ; which cleans the flesh/body , but not the heart/spirit . To be a Son of the Father , you must live by faith ; which is the atonement through the mediator Jesus Christ , under the priesthood of Melchisedec : repenting of your sins with a sorrowful heart , then believing by obedience ; which means to start keeping the commandments of your mediator Jesus ; which he received from the Father . Grace by faith was always available for ALL MEN ,from the beginning ( Adam ) ; the Priesthood of Melchisedec has been around since the beginning of the creation . Over the centuries , the Israelites lost their way , that is while the prophet Moses told them ( Deuteronomy 18:15-19 ) , even before they entered the land of Israel , that the LORD thy God would raise up unto them a prophet ,from the midst of thy brethren , like unto him ; And he would put in that prophet mouth all the things that the people desired at Horeb , or Mount Sinai ; Which is the ten commandments , that the God of Israel spoke to them , and all the statutes , judgments and covenants that Moses would speak to them of , because the people were afraid to hear it from God , lest we die . Paul started by saying : " I SPEAK TO THEM THAT KNOW THE LAW " ; that would be Israelites .Paul spoke to Israelites and Gentiles together , in most cities he ministered . This is an allegory of the sin sacrifice laws through the two mediators ; which Moses was the husband under the covenant between the Father and the children of Israel at Mount Sinai , and Jesus Christ became the husband of the covenant between the Father and the children of Israel , after he was resurrected , and appeared before the Father in heaven for our sins . The sin sacrifice of atonement went through the mediators , under a priesthood ( blood of the animals and oblations , through works , under the priesthood of Leviticus through Moses , and blood of Christ , through faith , underthe priesthood of Melchisedec , through Jesus Christ ) . Jesus Christ has redeemed them from their former husband Moses and the law of animal sacrifice . Most of the nation of Israel did not believe that Jesus was that atonement for sin to bless all nations , so they continued in the first atonement ( blood of the animals and oblations ) . Paul did not believe at first , he persecuted the followers of Jesus Christ , and continued in the atonement of the blood of the animal for sin ; which could only clean the flesh/body , not the heart/spirit . In this allegory , Paul is talking about three types of laws that is spoken of throughout the bible : (1.) The laws of the Father ; which are hs laws/commandments/instructions ; which includes all the covenants ; these are instructions for righteousness ; from the first commandment he gave man , to the end of the creation . (2.) The sin sacrifice law of atonement for the flesh/body , through the mediator Moses ; the law of animal sacrifice of works . (3.) The sin sacrifice law of atonement for the heart/spirit , through the mediator Jesus Christ , the blood of Christ through faith . The sin sacrifice of atonement for the flesh/body had many names ( law of animal sacrifice and oblations ,or the law of sin and death , or the law of works , of the circumcision of flesh for sin , or the schoolmaster , or the whole law , or the law of Moses , because it came through the mediator Moses , who was the protection/covering /husband , for the people ) . The sin sacrifice of atonement for the heart/spirit hadmany names ( law of faith , law of liberty , circumcision of heart/spirit for sin , law of righteousness , law of grace , or law of Christ , because itcamethrough the mediator Jesus Christ , who was the protector/covering/husband , for the people ) . Most of times in Romans 7 , Paul is talking about the law of animal sacrifice , when he say ( law ,commandment , flesh ,letter ,carnal ) . Most of the times in Rmans 7 , Paul is talking about the blood of Christ through faith , when he say ( newness of spirit , inward man , law of my mind ) . Most of the times in Romans 7 , Paul is talking about the laws of the Father , when he say ( sin , law of God ) . The apostle Peter said that some of Paul's writings and other scriptures are sometimes hard to be understood . Hope this help ? Shalom !

      Just because people put scriptures as what we call the old testament , and gospel as the new testament ; they are the same ; the words of The Most High God , the Father ( Hebrews 1:1-3 ; Hebrews 4:1-2 ) . People error because they are not equipped with the one thing that God say we must have , FAITH . People think that when Jesus came through the flesh ; died and was resurrected ; appeared before the Father for our sins ; that the forgiveness for sin started at that point ; but they are 100 % wrong . Question , Did Abraham , Isaac , Jacob , David , etc ....... live and die before Jesus Christ came in the flesh ? If the answer is yes , how were they justified from sin ? These men wll be in the kingdom of God . The apostle Paul stated in Romans 3:23 , " For all have sinned , and come short of the glory of God " ; So how can anyone before Jesus resurrection and appearing before the Father for our sins be justified ? In Romans 6:23 , " For the wages of sin is death ; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord " . Jesus is the atonement for our sins , but most people do not realize , that this represents TWO TYPE OF SINS ; the sin of the first death that Adam put ALL of us under , the grave ; which is the free gift , nothing is required , even if you do not believe in Jesus . By sinning against the laws of God , Adam condemned the entire creation back to the dust of the ground ; for all have sinned and come shot of the glory of God . By living a righteous life , unblemlish without sin , Jesus was not worthy to die as we are ; so he died not for himself , but for ALL who have transgressed the laws of the Father ; which is given to ALL who have ever lived ; that how he defeated death , by overcoming sin . By defeating sin ; which brings on death , now ALL will be resurrected from their first tabernacle ( body ) , and live forever in their second tabernacle ( body ) ; but can we dwell with the Father , if we die in our first tabernacle in sin ? 1 John 1:5-7 , " This then is the message which we have heard of him , and declare unto you , that God is light , and in him is no darkness at all . If we say that we have fellowship with him , and walk in darkness , we lie , and do not the truth : But if we walk in the light , we have fellowship one with another , and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from ALL SINS " . The free gift redeems you from the sins of the first death , the grave , but to dwell with the Father in his kingdom , something else is required . This is what Jesus Christ said , as he started his ministry in Mark 1:14-15 , " Now after that John was put in prison , Jesus came preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God , And saying , The time is fulfilled , and the kingdom of God is at hand :REPENT YE , AND BELIEVE THE GOSPEL " . The God of Israel has always required that you repent of your sins with a sorrowful heart ( like king David did in Psalm 32 & 51 ) ; and believe by obedience ; which means to start keeping his laws/commandments/instructions ; which includes all covenants ; that's how you have faith with him , by obedience . The gospel that Jesus taught are the same words that Moses & the prophets gave in the scriptures ( Hebrews 1:1-3 ) ; which are the words of the Father . Remember what Moses said to the children of Israel in Deuteronomy 18:15-19 , " The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee , of thy brethren , like unto me ; unto him ye shall hearken ; ACCORDING TO ALL THAT THOU DESIREDST OF THE LORD THY GOD IN HOREB IN THE DAY OF THE ASSEMBLY , SAYING , LET ME NOT HEAR AGAIN THE VOICE OF THE LORD MY GOD , NEITHER LET ME SEE THIS GREAT FIRE ANYMORE , THAT I DIE NOT . And the LORD said unto me , They have well spoken that which they have spoken . I WILL RAISE THEM UP A PROPHET FROM AMONG THEIR BRETHREN , LIKE UNTO THEE , AND WILL PUT MY WORDS IN HIS MOUTH ; AND HE SHALL SPEAK UNTO THEM ALL THAT I SHALL COMMAND HIM . AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS , THAT WHOSOEVER WILL NOT HEARKEN UNTO MY WORDS WHICH HE SHALL SPEAK IN MY NAME , I WILL REQUIRE IT OF HIM " . Question , What did the children of Israel desire at Horeb or Mount Sinai ? Answer , the ten commandments that the God of Israel spoke to them ; and all of the other statutes and judgemets ; which includes the covenants , that they were afraid to hear from God , but would hear through Moses . Jesus Christ himself said that he came not to do his own will , but the will of the one who sent him . In John 12:44-50 , Jesus said that if you do not believe the words that he speak unto you , the same words will judge you on the last day ; which is the white throne judgment ; because he speak the words of the Father . The second sin that the blood of Jesus cleaneth you from requires repentance and faith ; which means to believe by obedience ; this redeems you from the second death ; which is the lake of fire . By redeeming you from the first death of the grave with the free gift , now your tabernacle , or body from heaven ( 1 Corinthians 15:35-38,42-51 ) is in danger of the lake of fire ; because you cannot dwell with the Father in darkness ( sin ) . Before the children of Israel were given the law of animal sacrifice for the first tabernacle or body , the God of Israel required all men to live by faith ( repenting of their sins with a sorrowful heart ( mind ) and start walking in the light ) ; Why does Proverbs24:16 say this : Proverbs 24:16 , " For a just man falleth seven times , and riseth up again : but the wicked shall fall into mischief " ? Answer , if a just man falleth seven times , then he is redeemed seven times by repenting and believing like king David ; remember this was long before Jesus came in the flesh . For the atonement of sin , it requires a sacrifice ; a sacrifice through a priesthood . What priesthood was around at the time of Abraham ? Answer , The priesthood of Melchisedec . How was Melchisedec identified in Hebrews 7 ? ( King of Righteousness , King of Salem , King of peace , without father , without mother , without descent , having neither beginning of days , nor end of life ; but made like unto the Son of God ; abideth a priest continually ) . Now , who does this look like ? ( Micah 5:1-2 , Luke 1:26-33 , Romans 10:4 , Romans 1:1-4 ) . Remember the Word created the heavens and the earth , and all things that is ; and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us . What did Jesus say in John 5:37 ? ( John 5:37 , " And the Father himself , which hath sent me , hath borne witness of me . Ye have neither heard his voice at any time , nor seen his shape " ) ; which means that the one most call Yahweh , or Jehovah , or I AM , or God Almighty , or The God of Abraham , Isaac , and Jacob , and Melchisedec ; is none other then the one who came in the Father's name in John 5:43 . The one we call Jesus Christ created us , and has been interceding for us as high priest from the beginning of the creation ( Melchisedec at the time of Abraham ) , until it is completed ( Jesus Christ now ) ; which is the white throne judgment . The apostle Paul explains this ( Romans 5:13-14 , " For until the law sin was in the world : but sin is not imputed when there is no law . Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses , even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression , who is the figure of him that was to come " ) . What is sin ? Answer , the transgression of the law of God ( 1 John3:4 ) . Paul stated that until the law ( what law ? ) , sin ; which is the transgression of the law of God was in the world , but sin ; which is the transgression of the law of God is not imputed ( represents something undersirable as been done , caused , or possesed by someone ) when there is no law . This law is not the commandments/instructions of God ; which includes all the covenants , but a sin sacrifice law that came at the time of Moses ; the law of animal sacrifice of works ; which was not of faith ( Romans 3:27-28 ) . Once you fell under this law , which was written in the book of the law of the priesthood , under the mediator Moses ( Leviticus ) ; it had to be carried out , just as it is written ; no grace or mercy . When the children of Israel went into a covenant with the Father in the wilderness , all their sins were forgiven ; the only thing that they waited on was the promise to redeem ALL MEN from the sins of the first death , the grave . When the children of Israel begin to break the laws of the Father and not repent by faith ; he gave to them , through their mediator Moses , the law of animal sacrifice for the body , of the earthly tabernacle ; to keep from killing their flesh , hoping that their would rethink themselves and repent by faith , before they die ; or they would die in their sins . Shalom !

    So I was a wretched man and gave my life to Christ and have seen a change in my heart and the WANT to serve and honor God with my life.. but the very sin I’ve tried to be completely delivered from (lust,sexual images) pops up from time to time in my life and when I submit to that sin I’m overwhelmed with guilt and find myself constantly asking for forgiveness. But I always feel like how many times could God forgive you of this? Brothers I’m seeking advice on how to help with this situation. Is this kind of like Paul here when in my spirit I thrive to serve Jesus and I do, I even fight temptations off and do the will of God but in those moments that I don’t succeed with the temptations, is that what Paul is showing here? That even tho we are saved in Christ that in times the flesh is still weak and falls into sin? Thank you guys

    How can you say the state of the Ro 7:7-24 man is state of the Ro 7:25+ man?
    The man in Ro 7:24 is still crying out for salvation from his body of sin and death, but in v25 thanks are given to God that the salvation came through Messiah--as it says, "that the body of sin may be brought to nothing" [Ro 6:6], and " [we died] through the Body of Messiah" (i.e., we are united with Him in His "death to Sin" and subsequent resurrection and "living to God").
    Those "in Christ" are *liberated* from the Law of Sin and Death "in the flesh" [Ro 8:2]; but the man described in Ro 7:7-24 is *captive* to the Law of Sin and Death "in the flesh". Rather, Ro 7:7-24 is a picture of, "while we were living *in the flesh*, our sinful passions, (aroused by the Law)" (e.g., "sin, seizing opportunity through the Commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness", etc.,)--thus, again, it cannot refer to a man who is "in Christ or *in the Spirit*" [Ro 8:9].
    The state of the man in Ro 7:7-24 is such that he *cannot do good* (and, since "good" is "the Law" [Ro 7:12], this means he "cannot fulfill the righteous requirement of the Law"), but is inexorably "taken captive" to work for Sin; but the state of those after 7:24 is such that they are "free from that which held us captive" [Ro 7:5,6; Ro 8:2] and *are able* to "fulfill the righteous requirement of the Law" (of course, this is by the Spirit of Grace not the Written Code [Ro 6:14, 7:1-6]) [Ro 8:4].
    It is more reasonable to see Ro 7 as a Jew upon whom the Law is working its "Ministry of Condemnation" [Dt 31:26; 2 Co 3:9], which ultimately drives him to cry out for a deliverer/savior from himself (necessarily, this deliverer/savior must [as also was the case for the Jews enslaved in Egypt--"slavery" having been the type of "sin"] come from without himself--he needs salvation *from himself*, so how could *he* be the savior?)--which is the only legitimate explanation for how the Law is not contrary to the Promises / "illegitimately interpolated into the already-ratified Covenant of Promise" [Gal 3] (the function of the Law is to *actualize* the Promise along the lines of the Ro 7:7-24 man).
    The only thing left is to respond to how he can delight in God's Law when he isn't even saved, which isn't that difficult. Who said he *actually* fulfilled the Law? It says his dilemma is specifically that he *cannot* do the good he would prefer to do: he *conceptually* agrees with the Law. Who says a lost man cannot delight in some noble ideals? Of course they can!
    The man is simply "double-minded": when he reads God's Law, he delights in It, but is "overwhelmed by the force of Sin, and taken captive and enslaved to work in accordance with Sin's Law" instead. He is like a slave who dreams of freedom but always finds himself back on the plantation: slaves can *dream* of freedom even if they always find themselves in chains.
    The reason there is no condemnation is because IF he were "in the flesh" he WOULD be "captured and made a slave of the Law Sin issued"; BUT SINCE he is "in the Spirit" he is "liberated" from the slavery to the Law Sin issues.

      Can a justified Christian who truly lives in Christ live life in the here and now with no sin?

    • @1156511
      @1156511 Před 9 lety

      +Doug Ligon No [Pp 3:12-16]. Perfection will be when we see Messiah as He is [1 Jn 3:2]; that being said, we should *not* be living as if we were Sin's slaves (we are free from slavery to Sin and capable of fulfilling God's Law by Grace [Ro 2:12-15, 3:31, 8:1-4, 13:8-10]) since Sin's slaves will not inherit God's Kingdom [1 Co 6:9]. There really is a "righteousness of God" in this Gospel which must be revealed by our lives if we think we're going to be saved from God's righteous fury on the unrighteousness of men [Ro 1:16-18; Pp 3:9].

    • @Daviusheart
      @Daviusheart Před 9 lety

      Doug Ligon Yes. That's what Christ came to do. But only a "mature Christian" who understands the Gospel and has learned through experience to distinguish between what is righteous and unrighteous can live without sinning anymore. It demands sacrifice and obedience that most, including me, are not willing to do. Please don't tell me that we will sin till we die, that we are destined for it, that we will sin no matter how Godly we live here on earth because we are in this body, because The Bible never says that or implies that.
      We sin because we don't pray enough, fast enough, attend vigil enough, obey Christ enough, sacrifice ourselves enough, read the word enough, fight temptation enough, live a Godly life enough, etc.

      In Romans 7, Paul recounted his struggles under the Law while still seeking a deliverance, which he found in Jesus. In Romans 7:14 he clearly identified himself as being in bondage to sin (compare to John 8:34), so he is not talking of his experience as a born again or saved person, a "new creature in Christ" (2 Corinthians 5:17) so to speak.
      So, Romans 7 should never be used to explain that a Christian is continuing to live in sin. That's ignoring the foundation for the Christian life laid out in all of Romans 6, and missing the transition from Romans 7 to Romans 8:1 where the apostle Paul speaks of being in Christ Jesus and under no condemnation, not walking according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Only then is he talking of his life as a Christian, having been delivered from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2). That is the exact opposite of the situation in Romans 7:23 where he spoke about being in captivity to the law of sin working in his members.
      Romans 7:14-25 is about the apostle Paul's experience when he was still bound in sin and seeking a deliverance. He did find his deliverance / salvation / freedom from sin in Jesus (John 8:31-36, Romans 6:7, 18).
      1 Peter 2:21-25
      21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow his steps, 2 who “committed no sin, nor was deceit found in his mouth.” 23 Who, when he was cursed, did not curse back. When he suffered, did not threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously; 24 who his own self bore our sins in his body on the tree, *that we, having died to sins, might live to righteousness;* by whose wounds you were healed. 25 For you were going astray like sheep; but now have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

His son the Christ was the living breathing Torah. Christ kept the laws of his father YHWH. We need to also keep the laws and to fear YHWH. We can't walk after the flesh, but after the spirit. • @unc1589
    @unc1589 Před 2 lety

    Many pastors “under teach” romans 7/8. Some believe it gives license to sin but that’s not what it’s saying. Your flesh already gives license to sin against God every day. Your flesh serves “ The law of sin and death”.
    “ the soul that sins shall die!” Says Ezekiel 18:20. Even unbelievers know this law. It’s set in every human heart. Fear of judgment because of our sin. Here’s the good part … The law of The Spirit of life in Christ Jesus HAS SET YOU FREE FROM THE LAW OF “SIN/DEATH”. Huh? Sounds like a greater law has canceled out a previous law right?
    You’re right! It has because in order for you to be saved the “old law” (which Jesus mentions many times when He says things like “ it is written… eye for an eye… thou shall not commit adultery….BUT I SAY UNTO YOU…. ( New law!) Jesus fulfilled the law on our behalf and if we are “ in Christ” then we no longer live by the oldness of the letter. If you try to serve God by the law of Moses you will die because the law is impossible for us to fulfill. So just because we do not have license to sin doesn’t mean that a really great thing hasn’t happened to the believer who has sinned. It’s liberty from sins law that is afforded to the believer. Knowing this makes sin much less attractive to our minds. If we have the mind of Christ.

      Jude 1:24 reveals how we will be presented before the Father because of the work wrought by his son...firstly at the cross and "ongoing" thru our lives where we will become more like him if we work out our salvation,growing and walking the Calvary road... Philippians 1:6 describes that he who began a good work will bring it to completion on the day of Jesus or at the presentation described in Jude 1:24
      Both the NASB and ESV describe "habitual sin" ie the practice of sin in the 1 John 3... text
      That is vastly different to being sinless...as we are not
      Note Romans 3:23.
      We have a righteousness outside of our sinful selves given to us....Christ conquered death and overcame for all who are indwelt by the spirit...we are to fight for ...and live in that freedom daily
