The supercross event is back for another season at the Fairplex in Pomona, California, but this time around there will be only two-strokes racing. Thatâs right, the same half-mile of rollers, whoops and tables is going to take a step back in time.

Been riding for 20 years, Iâve had almost every dirtbike under the sun expect some the hard to get euro stuff (Sherko, TM ECT.). Iâve had all the lastest and greatest overly complicated 4 strokes for the last ten years. And honestly to this day the best and my favorite dirt bike is my 2000 CR 250R... Iâll be hanging onto that one forever. And Honda if youâre listening bring back a modern two stroke.

I've been riding for 45 yrs now and my favorite bike of all time was my 1988 CR 500, I'm a larger guy 6'5" 250 lbs so the 500 fits me better than the 250 but the 250 is a better bike for most especially on a supercross track

I had a Honda Z50 mini bike when I was in 7th grade, back in the 80s, now I've got 1978 Honda xl250s and a 1993 Honda xr250l. Great bikes.

Nothing better than a 2-stroke. I was finally excited about watching racing again. GET RIDE OF THE 4-STROKE. The racing sucks with thumpers. True racing and skill is the smoker all day long. BRING BACK THE 2-STROKE TO SUPERCROSS.!!!! 4-strokes can be the half time intermission.

Yes, I think it was some kind of a real factory bike. Red Bull wouldn't get the risk to loose against a Monster bike. He was away after every start, the bike seem to have lots of power. Was quite sure he would win it but Shane did great. Maybe he had the same bike as Ryan.
According to Villopoto Dungey's bike had a 300cc big bore motor.

The fact that it was all 2 strokes made me very happy, plus seeing Dungey come back and get on a bike again was awesome. So glad I was able to run into him and get a picture with him at MXON. Wasn't able to talk to him much but that is one memory I don't want to forget

I have stopped watching super cross because of the lack of close racing . Two strokes brings back that element again of the way racing should be . I was literally at the edge of my seat tonight .

John Kimball talking overall racing was tighter and more exciting to watch . The four strokes brought changes to the way tracks are layed out . Bikes are way easier to ride nowadays and thatâs a fact . Four strokes just plow thru stuff and are easier to gain speed back once a mistake has been made .two strokes make better riders

Weve slowed down the field by banning four strokes, may as well slow it down some more by making an open two stroke class.
@@ibewillow 500cc smokers would indeed make it slower, but it's just like every other class. Fast, four stroke bikes are boring as hell to watch. I live in some crazy nether world in which what fans enjoy watching becomes the product. I haven't been in my element in 15 years.
I'm 29, so I'm not so far removed. People just want to see competitive racing.
F1 and even MotoGP are more and more boring now.

They were slow and no one wanted them, now theyre cool and valuable and we all want to see who can ride them. Im not opposed to the big two stroke, i just come from a place where they ban fast cars and bikes to keep outdated stuff in the public eye so they can sell it. Id like to see two stroke, 4 stroke and electric all running together.
What would be fortunate for all of us is if Honda, Kawasaki, and Suzuki would make 2strokes again thanks to straight rhythm. Unfortunately i doubt they will.

Intense races and remarkable passes. Seeing the retired Villopoto out there was definitely a throw back to 2006-2008 trying to stay up to date with injuries and recovery's on top of watching every Sunday's race somewhat soar from Saturday's ride.
Would love to see James Stewart show up on a 2 stroke for this race!!!! Loved seeing that 259 bike!!!

Definitely need a two stroke class in supercross
Originally it was 2 strokes in supercross. The 250 4-stroke class now was 125 2-stroke. The 450 class now was 250 2-stroke. They never should have changed it, but they have to go along with the emitions guide lines and apparently 4strokes are better. 2 strokes 4 life. Mixin gas and kickin ass.
Do 2 strokes again next year.

Dungey is one of the most underrated riders at supercross
Lots of 2 stroke comments. These new 2 strokes have power the entire way through. No power band. I just bought a Ktm SX250. What a difference from my older bikes. They have Mapping and something called a "power valve" adjuster. I'm completely blown away. I just got a set of Mitas studded tires and they are amazing on the frozen lake. 4th gear wheelies with traction to spare.
Who cares if Ronnie didnât do a practice run. Itâs on him if he doesnât run one. This was stupid. I was really looking forward to see Ronnie race.

Iâm watching this in May for the first time. I havenât been a huge fan in the past for whatever reason, I guess Iâm just a traditionalist. I was rooting for my boy Villopoto but I can't express how impressed I am with Ryan Dungey. That guy has earned mine and alot of other peoples respect over the years. I wish I could have extended both of their careers as they complimented each other so well. Congrats to Shane mcelrath on beating two legends as well as all of the other competitors

For dirt bikes - You're right, two strokes are dying, (in motocross, not Enduro). The reason why can be debated, but I think they should be brought back. and here's why...
I don't race motocross, never have. I'm a trail rider who rides a 2 stroke. You want to know why I ride a 2 stroke? It's not because I don't think 4 strokes are competitive. It's because 4 strokes are more expensive to buy and more importantly, maintain. Two strokes are simple and inexpensive to work on.
If you blow a top end on a 2 stroke, expect to pay $150 for a piston kit and another $40 for a gasket set. If you blow a top end on a 4 stroke, it can be so expensive to fix that the bike is basically totaled.
Numbers of kids entering motocross is down and I think the biggest reason is that parents can no longer afford it. I blame a lot of the increased cost to 4 strokes. Why make the sport more expensive?

Andybj I can buy 4 strokes cheaper than two strokes. I sold my 1995 PW50 with broken fenders and no brakes for $850. I bought a 2001 XR50R with full exhaust, full BBR 88cc kit from carb to jug and piston, BBR bmx bars and triples and fork for $375 and itâs in great shape. You can buy a used 250 four for the same price as a used 125 2 stroke.

So cool! RV has THE coolest bike of the event; Dungey and RV 100% pure CLASS, PURE PRO; most honorable mention to #259 AJ on the 03 Pro Circuit Stewart bike-100% HEART; and...someone needs to take a close look at Carson Browns cylinder/piston size! Brilliant event, going all two-stroke was genius!

That guy is just full of excuses if he is not winning.
When the bike is maxed out in terms of compression, if the jetting is off, it cooks the motor quick. Hence why the bike seized. Production 2 strokes aren't that bad with temperature changes once setup decently.
Aye obviously! Also quick tip for anyone riding a 2 stroke like my self let it run for a little bit before reving the shot out of it!

Ride a gear higher and stop blipping the throttle cuz it sounds cool. Smooth like butter. Carry your momentum. I rode today 2018 Sx250 with studded Mitas tires. Snowmobile trails are perfectly groomed.
