Sadly I doubt that Disney and their current leadership will learn the right lesson from this box office result.
They will with Deadpool 3
Oh, they will. They'll have a better understanding of just how foolish the audience is.

Exactly the point here 😏
@WaltRight um but after the parents bring their kids to watch inside out 2 they're unlikely going to watch minions movie few weeks later given how expensive the tickets are
That's how the nonsense narrative falls apart 😁
People need to go to theaters again because COVID-19 is over.
Here’s the point: Disney doesn’t know why this movie is successful and everything they’ve done for the past five years wasn’t. Not a clue.
Dear valued Pixar employee,
Thanks for your contribution to "Inside Out 2," which we expect to be our greatest success in five years.
You're fired.
XXOO,
Bob Iger
I'm honestly impressed. Props to Pixar.
Attendance for this one's been so big at my theater we've been greenlighted to add more shifts and overtime approved. As I'm typing this, my phone's blowing up with alerts of new shifts open for the taking. I can only imagine how wild it's going to get when Deadpool hits next month.
Wow!!
If it's earned with a decent movie, then well done.
It's because they didn't push political messaging in it. That's why.
Same goes for *_Spider-Man: No Way Home_* - you remove all the political agendas, and you get a good movie.
Except they technically did with its theme of how no one is good or evil and that gives a very bad message and requires you to change you view on certain people historically
Let's see if Disney takes the lesson here
I didn't see political aganda, when I watched inside out 2. I knew it wouldn't have DEI. This is the only pixar sequel that I liked. However, I won't watch their upcoming cash grab movies. I really enjoyed inside out 2, yesterday, when I watched it in the theater.
What political agendas? In Spiderman? I don't remember seeing a gay character in that
God damn spiderman was trash
Even Disney is bound to get something right occasionally. I mean they cant always screw up 100% of the time.
They certainly have been trying tho~
Pixar, renamed Blind Squirrel, finds an acorn.
You’re NOT wrong!!
Not that I care as I'm a ex-Pixar fan, but I am certainly not looking forward to constant sequel after sequel to better films moving forward. Was hoping this would fail to egg Pixar and further Disney in the face because the further they go down, the more incentive there will be for change behind the scenes.
True. And be sure modern Disney will learn all the wrong lessons from this success.

No one gives a f@%#. Keep living your cynical, cold life while we enjoy Inside Out 2. Also, families are taking their kids to see this so...oof.
Its the principle. Just because someone does something right once but usually is bad to you abusive, that one good rhing doesn't make everything alright, particularly if the core of the person hasnt really changed or shown real signs of change from deep within. I decided to take my granddaughters to the movies for Father’s Day. I was very sceptical of what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised that the movie was good, clean fun without the hidden Disney agenda of wokeness. It was a good safe story.
There WAS wokeness! Didn’t you notice the pride flag in the background? Or the fact that Riley has a crush on an older female hockey player???

Can't wait to see people argue how this will save Disney even though it's one movie in 5 years that was financially successful and you expect this movie to just financially fix everything?

@@Movies-2024-1 hopefully they won’t ruin Moana 2! Looks like it has potential
Idk, with Deadpool 3 & Moana 2 coming out this year & Deadpool already having huge box office predictions, I'd say this is most likely a comeback for Disney a little while.
They don't want to fix themselves, they are helping to destroy western culture for their insect overlords.
So glad that Inside Out is a very strong comeback for Pixar!
Good for them. Now watch them fill inside out 3 with nonsense and it'll be " business as usual" for Disney.
I’m not giving Disney my money seeing as though they push politics over good storytelling.
Yes, you are smart. The Woke company needs money to continue its agenda, and some movie audiences don't get it. Disney shall return to woke. Nothing has changed.
I agree.
Say it louder for the folks in the overflow...🎉
I agree, though supporting content that doesn’t have woke is the same message. They will have a hard time denying the facts. The bean counters will look at the numbers and wonder what was the difference. It’s a body shot to woke messaging we need. Without it I don’t think we can win.
I understand that position, but I’m still willing to support good entertainment without an agenda so they can see that it sells while the other crap doesn’t. This movie was a good one.
Inside Out 2’s victory shows us one thing, that all hope isn’t lost for Pixar
When I saw it, I was one of a small handful of adult men. All the rest of the audience were moms and their kids, chiefly girls, and I saw very few of those around 13 y.o. I hope they liked it and spread the word. This is a great coming-of-age movie for young girls and deals honestly with the emotions they face at that age, as their attitudes and lifestyles shift. I wish people would not just condemn it based on Pixar's bad record of late. This is a completely different story with no feminist/woke agenda. It doesn't matter that Riley has a black and a Latina as her closest friends. Is that so odd these days? The girls in this are a mix of the races, and *race* is never an issue.
Just saw it today and totally agree. Well said!
With all due respect to Disney & Pixar, imagine having the bar set at "Well, they're still alive."
I saw it yesterday afternoon while my family was hosting a baby shower for my older brother & I can say that it deserves this W. Not as good as the first Inside Out, but definitely 1 of the best animated Disney movies in the last 5 years.
My girls really really wanted to see this. I heard opening day reviews and comments that it wasn't messaged up the wazoo and We went to see it Saturday afternoon. The writing wasn't horrible or even mediocre. It was actually good. Subtle universal life lessons that didn't immediately clash with traditional values of merit and it actually had an undertone of being accountable (atleast thats how i interpreted it and made sure my kids didn't miss that point)
Same. And the Dora spoof characters had me rolling. 😂

Disney will learn the wrong lesson like always, and keep pushing sequel after sequel instead of good movies.
Sometimes sequels can be good movies. Toy Story 3 for example
Sequels can be good though!
Then they did Toy Story 4, Frozen 2, cars 2.
The theaters absolutely needed this win. This film and bad boys 4 actually caused a increase from last year. If the movie is as good as people say, I might go check it out myself.
Saw it with my teen kids this afternoon. It’s really good. Not as great as the first, but still really good.

I remember back in 7th grade (11-12 years old) the GIRLS were taken and auditorium while the BOYS were in another. We watched a "primitive Pete" movie about tools. I believe the girls were hard pressed to talk about what they saw. I believe it was about menstruation, though I cannot confirm it. Inside Out has reminded me of that time growing up in the early 70s :)
Darn. At least it’s good for theaters.
Good start. If only it cost $100M less, it would already be at the break even point.
I've heard that Inside Out 2 wasn't all that bad. It wasn't woke, for one thing.
I will go see it soon.
Disney back to their favorite easiest preys, I mean, customers: low standard kids and adult kids(mostly women). Maybe they should try this with Star Wars. After all thats their target audience.
If this movie isn't woke and it does this kind of money, I really, really hope Disney puts those 2 things together and makes any sort of positive adjustment. I don't believe that 1, 2 or even 5 big hits would be enough to get them to completely course correct; but let's see where this goes
LOL. If it didn't have any of The Message in the movie, then the budget is something like 500Million because they had to rewrite the whole movie.
well shit enough on the floor and someone's bound to step in it.
Just saw it with my kids this afternoon. It didn’t quite live up to the first, which set an almost impossibly high standard, but it was really good. I see people complaining about a message that people aren’t good or bad, and I think that misses the point. Almost nobody is ALL good or ALL bad, and kids have to learn how to accept their failures and low moments as part of growing up. They have to accept they won’t be perfect so they will continue to try and improve and not beat themselves up or become paralyzed with anxiety. I think the movie captured that very well. Plus, there is a spoof on a Dora character that is just hilarious. I was relieved that there wasn’t a single moment in the whole film that made me feel like they were pushing a woke message. If you have preteen or teenage kids, I think they’ll really like it. The themes will probably sail over the heads of younger kids, but I think they will still enjoy it.
Its a good film and my kids loved it.
However, Inside out cost 250 Million to make, so it's going to be 600 million for it to break even! There is still a chance it just does so so.
That doesn't include marketing costs; usually 150 to 200 million dollars in marketing costs per movie. It needs 700 to 800 million dollars minimum to break even for this movie. There's still a chance Disney won't make that much of a profit if it's front loaded.
Inside Out 2 Budget $200 million. So stop making things up. It does not need to make 600 million or even 800 million to break even. It needs around 500 million or less to break even.
You guys are just inflating the break even numbers. You guys are giving break even number that not even true and you did the same for others movies and those were not true as well. Clear definition of grifters etc..
@bricktwo5849 It is a common occurrence that studios underreport the true costs of a production. It is also common for marketing costs for big movies to reach 100 mill and more. And you are aware that studios get 50% of box office only in US, and few other countries? In China studio gets only 25% of the box office. So no, 500 mill won't be enough to break even for this movie.
Wrong. It's 175 Mio. It already surpassed it's budget. You want them to fail so hard that you're lying. Sorry to burst you bubble but it will be a huge win and so will Deadpool 3 and Moana 2

Pixar (the brand) is the real winner. Disney is still in the doghouse.
A win is a win
I'm curious about how many tickets sales were bulk purchases. I wish there was a way to know that metric.
Well… Looks like Pixar did finally manage to find some Fairy Dust somewhere…

Valiant: the audio/video sync was off in this video.
VR, it is clear that, especially for Disney, movie goers are ignoring marketing and critics, but following the reviews of the average audience. Notice how well this movie did on Saturday. All marketing budgets need to be cut, take heed distributors.
It was actually a great movie..
I haven't seen it yet, so it might be amazing. If nothing else the animation quality looks way better than Strange worlds or other recent CGI films by disney. But first weekend numbers really don't much with sequels. It just means the first movie was good and people are interested in the franchise.
The follow up weekend numbers plus how often people want to watch it again is far more important. After something like Star Wars proved how much Hype can sell tickets with people going into The Force Awakens because of the past popularity of Star wars.
Disney setting themselves up to have to biggest movies of the summer. Deadpool 3 is probably going to have one of the biggest openings ever.
I can’t wait to see this Tuesday!
Movie was good. You could tell where it 100% had woke crap in it, but they took it all out. It was a solid good movie.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 made 845.6 Million.
Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness made 955.8 Million.
Black Panther Wakanda Forever made 859.2 Million.
even Thor Love and Thunder made 760.9 Million.
& Avatar the Way of Water made 2.3 Billion.
Disney's has had some flops Quantumania and the Marvels underperformed with the latter being a flat out flop. sticking to Marvel Black Widow, Shang-Chi, and Eternals all underperformed but were also released in 2021 with Black Widow having the Brightside of making Disney 60 million in pure profit on Streaming.
Saying this is Disney 1st win in 5 years is not true. Honestly all studios have been struggling since the pandemic in 2019 there were 9 movies that made a billion plus since then only 6. The forementioned Avatar the Way of Water, Spider-Man No Way Home (While not a Disney movie it was made with Marvel Studios), Top Gun Maverick, Jurassic World Dominion, Barbie, and Super Mario Bros.

7:59 Disney doesn't know how to make movies for all demographics. This movie is about puberty and the maturation that happen so it makes sense people wouldn't being younger kids
As far as when you compare it to Super Mario from last year, yes it beat it, even when including inflation, but let’s not forget that Super Mario opened on a Wednesday which diluted its opening weekend. Not taking anything away from Inside Out 2. $155 million is an incredibly solid opening and even with inflation accounted it’s either the 4th or 5th highest Pixar opening which is nothing to scoff at. I think the reason you’re seeing such a high number or tickets bought the day of is because people are avoiding the ticket fees. When you buy tickets online you pay fees that can add up to quite a lot compared to simply buying the tickets directly at the theater. With costs of everything being so high I’m imagining many people are trying to avoid paying fees like that to save money.
If it isn't propaganda, people goes to watch it? Colored me surprised (I am not).
I fully expect the lesson that Disney will take from this is to milk sequels and we'll be right back on track to seeing the company burn.

I don't blame them, there hasn't been any movies for children for quite a long time. Believe me, over here not a lot of people are aware of the pablum Disney is dishing out lately.
Time for Asian studios to start their own production of high level children movies.

Inside Out 2 is expected to be released on PVOD in August and following physical media three weeks later.
Anyone find it interesting how every single hollywood studio have been putting their movies on PVOD at least six weeks after box office release for the past two years? None of these studios are reporting sale numbers on PVOD.
Basically how it goes is Movie release at the box office, six weeks later PVOD release, three weeks after that is blu-ray, dvd release and some time later after that streaming. Why such a hurry to put movies on PVOD six weeks later?
Obviously one single movie in 2024 isn't going to show overall health of the box office. 2024 is currently showing at 9% drop from last year time.
