After buying the HA green box I needed some help on getting around HA. This video has been great :-) the pace and language easy for someone who has no idea to understand.
@@ChuckBuilds Thank you very much. I'm planning to add Reolink Doorbell Cameras to my home network. If I understand correctly, they can be linked to Home Assistant to archive my video on a hard drive... I think. After that, some surveillance cameras. If/when I get to that point, I might have some questions. Thanks again!
@manabouthome look into frigate! I’ll be covering that later on as it’s a complex topic. Reolink should be fine as long as it always has power (not battery)
Hi Mark, for my personal installation of HA - I first started with Docker but as my smart home grew, I liked having everything packaged in one place and moved to a VM running HAOS. I currently run Frigate with google coral on my home server with compreface, double take, and deep stack as docker containers with some other services (Plex, webhosting, etc) but have found that I like having my HAOS VM be mostly isolated and backing that image up to my Google Drive. There are very few downsides to doing it on Docker but wanted to make this series for totally inexperienced folks and docker was an unnecessary step that complicates follow up features I plan to cover. I've gotten a lot of comments about docker so maybe I need to cover that!
Disclaimer- this is going to be a really dumb question. I'm setting up my Intel based thin client today using your other video. Once that's done, I don't need to access that physical device, correct? I can use my pixel tablet to connect to the server, and follow this video walkthrough?
@@ChuckBuilds oh my gosh! Thank you! I am now logged into Home Assistant from the Pixel Tablet. I didn't expect everything to auto-extract onto a user interface dashboard that largely configured on its own. Sonos, Tesla charger, outdoor Xmas lights, plugs, lights, tvs, etc...
Thank you Chuck, and I have question. How can I use backup feature in case I switch from Raspberry pi to Intel NUC? Can backup file saved in a thump drive or so?
Yep! You can put it on a thumb drive or my personal favorite is using the google drive backup and restore app. I’ve got another video on how to do it on my channel!
what kind of speakers work with google cast? Personally i dont like to sound quality of the google speakers. But some speakers can be used with google home, will these work within google chromecast in HA?
Do you mean on the screen of the device that is hosting HomeAssistant? You will only see the command line there. You need to access the GUI from a web browser
I’ve created an account but never got past that screen I have my username and password wrote down but when I try to sign in it says incorrect username or password

I’m glad to hear that! I almost didn’t upload it but if it helped one person it’s worth it!
I've been curious about using Home Assistant but had no introduction to it... until now. Subscribed. Thank you!
Let me know what you want me to cover or if you have any questions

@@ChuckBuilds My cameras will have power. Looking forward to more of your content. Thanks.
Have you considered using same physical hardware, BUT, installing HA under docker?
(Along with some other apps, like Frigate?)

@ChuckBuilds your personal setup sounds inspirational. Appreciate the new comer format and building towards advance

Correct! You will only need to access it physically to plug in a dongle for Zwave or Zigbee, or to dust it off once a year or so!

@@ChuckBuilds The SkyConnect usb gives you Zwave AND Zigbee, right?
@@ThePupil I believe the Skyconnect is just Zwave. There is a combo stick out there that I tried once but couldn't get both radios to work reliably

Yep those should work !
How do I go about exiting the command line I’ve tried exit but it just refreshes the command line

Even when I go into the command line it’s saying there aren’t any users
@@ChrisIstre can you hop in my discord and maybe send screenshots or error logs? I am having a hard time with what is causing this for you
