    I demonstrate how to setup the MIGRO UVB grow light with an LED bar light, the ARAY 8 PRO in a 4ft x 4ft (1.2m x 1.2m) grow tent.
    SAFETY: Do not stay close to the UVB fixture (less than 3ft or 1m) for more than 5 minutes. As with sunlight prolonged exposure will burn the skin and damage your eyes. There is not UVC output by the fixture.
    The 2ft or 60cm ARAY UVB is 20W output and will cover up to 5ft x 5ft or 1.5m x 1.5m
    The UVB fixture should be hung at 2ft or 60cm above the plants canopy. This is 40cm or 16" above the LED bar light. The LED bar light surface ares is less than 20% of the canopy area so 80% of the UVB photons pass the bar light and reach the plant canopy.
    In this setup there is a range of 150 µwatts/cm² in the centre to 50 µwatts/cm² at the edges and an average of about 100 µwatts/cm² over the plant canopy. This is less sunlight mid-day sunshine in summer which would range from about 130 µwatts/cm² to 180 µwatts/cm².

    I'm also called Shane . There's not as many of us here in England, so people always call me Shaun .
    I wonder how many other UK Shane's are experiencing this problem . Perhaps I should start a support group.
    Being a Shane in Sweden is actually much worse though. Over there 'Shane ' sounds like the word ' Tjejen ' which means , ' the girl ' .
    I was in Dublin a few months back and it's like a sanctuary for Shane's . We're all over the place and people can pronounce our name better than I can myself. It was refreshing that nobody asked me to repeat my name two or three times before they inevitably call me Shaun .
    In England a Shane has about a 95% likely-hood of being some guy's dodgy mate from prison but in Dublin , Shane's are free to prosper and live productive, meaningful lives .
    It's a real Shane-gri-la .

      Agreed… I operate my t5 & t8 ballasts around 12 inches above the canopy in-line with my led fixtures (non-migro fixtures). Placing the unit at 24 inches above the canopy which is usually well over the light fixture is not going to work for the vast majority of anyone in a tent (most of us). It’s really impractical.
      Imagine having to put this over a more robust light without all that spaces between bars… it would be entirely ineffective where a vast majority of the light hits the back of the heatsink and never makes it to the plants,

    And the other question would be: would you make a smaller UVB lamp in the future? so that small growers would be able to fit in a small box for about 50cm hanging height (from the pot).

      I've read that UVB can keep plants from stretching as much during the first 2-3 wks of flowering, as well.
      Then I'd just use in the last 2-3 wks of flower. Starting with 15 minutes a day and moving up 15 minutes each few days, and maybe an hour per day max, as I've found these lights are very powerful, when experimenting without a timer (Duh?!), and ruining my crop by accidentally leaving it on for 12 hours.
      So be careful everyone!

    Good UVB and UVA big topic nowadays everyone thinks Uvb is necessary and all though I use them they are not required most leds already put out uvb so beginners beware👍 I don't Think there is a such thing as optimum spectrum and unattainable at cost comparison. I use it in veg a little and mostly late flower to help with trichomes production and far reds flash for 15 minutes to help plants go to sleep faster before light out cycle and seems to work well. In my opinion it's a good tool to add to your grows but not a necessity Thanks for sharing Shane love what you do long time follower and supporter👍🏻🙏❤First time I ever saw you was 3 years ago with Bruce Bugbee great collaboration and good episode with the 2 of you explaining all the spectrums. Honestly i don't think most LED lights have any UV at all, let alone UVB. If your LED has UV, it's most likely just UVA in the higher wavelengths like 350-400nm and that is almost nothing, maybe it will increase the flavor and aroma a little bit, but not THC and it will not stop mold. Those LED UV diodes are like a toy, like the invisible UV pens or those money-checking UV LED's. To produce UVB LED diodes is very expensive and the LED light would be expensive as hell. Probably the diodes would burn out fast as well.
      Are you sure you didn't mean HID and MH bulbs? Because those produce UV as well as IR.
      I have Mars Hydro TSL2000 which is a fairly common LED light and it doesn't have any UV, just some Infrared diodes. Even their newer model like SP don't have UV anymore, they removed them. The FC series has some UV, but it's not enough to get a decent result. LED UV is just not efficient.

    May be a dumb question but i wonder if this can be repurposed to help people deal with seasonal depression using artificial sunlightm obviously at a safer distance for a short period of time. I suffer from it in the winter and I have gone to tanning salons and it def helps along with taking vitamin d and going to the gym

    • @twentytwo138
      @twentytwo138 Před 2 lety

      Sorry to say this, but the question is indeed dumb. I mean, i understand your idea and it does make sense to some degree, but to even think about buying this light to be suntanning yourself on your own is just asking for problems and dangerous health issues like skin cancer and blindness. These lights are not meant to suntan people lol, it's meant for growing plants. There's a big difference between UV grow lights and suntanning UV lights. Just like there's a big difference with standard grow lights and the lightbulbs you use in the house. You wouldn't use a 300, 600 or 1000 watt growlight to light up a room, would you?
      These lights come at different UV wavelengths, intensity, power and percentage of UVA and UVB. I think the MIGRO UV light comes at 75% UVB and 25% UVA. This is far from the spectrum of the sun. In nature it's the opposite, much more UVA and much less UVB.
      There's a reason why in tanning salons you are able to touch the bed and be so close to the lights, because they are meant for people. You can't do that with UV grow lights. Also everyone's skin is different and there so many variables with UV lights, you simply cannot come up with a proper formula to suntan yourself. Just don't do it please! Go to a tanning salon and make it simple. Or simply go out when you feel depressed and get some natural sunlight, even in winter you would get enough.
      And also, sorry if i sound rude and that's not my intention. But if you go to tanning salons, take vitamin D, go to the gym and all that stuff, and you're still feeling depressed, then it's not a seasonal depression, it's a chronic depression and no amount of UV would help you with that. Something else is bothering you and you need to tackle the core of the problem.
      Everyone's body is different but i'll compare myself as an example. I'm 25 years old and for the last 5-7 years i'm spending time at home all day long, playing games, watching youtube, smoking weed etc. I only go out at summer, and i don't even suntan myself or anything, even though i live right next to the beach. I run a summer business and i only work during summer. It's not making me depressed. If anything i'm more depressed during summer because everything becomes so busy, loud and chaotic that i can't wait for winter. Personally i enjoy quiet and calm times, intense times make me depressed but that's just me.
      I do feel weaker and i do have less energy in winter of course, but when i get that energy in summer i feel more depressed because of busy life. Firstly it's a mental problem, the body comes second when it comes to depression. There are people in Scandinavia and other northern countries who live a large part of their lives in darkness due to winter solstice, and they are strong, healthy and happy (most of them at least).
      My advice is, keep doing what you've been doing now with tanning salons, vitamin D and the gym. Find a hobby that truly makes you happy and fulfilled. If you are happy and enjoy your hobbies, you can be in darkness 24/7 all year long and you would not feel depressed.
      Another advice is, check for mold and mildew in your house. If you live in a humid area there's a big chance you have mold hidden somewhere, maybe behind the walls etc.
      Mold toxicity causes depression and anxiety, along with a plethora of other body problems and health issues. Mold can be even deadly. Just an idea to think about.
      And if you really REALLY must use UV in your room, get a proper tanning bulb meant for humans. Or those small UV lights used for reptiles, bought from petshops. And buy UV protection glasses with a proper UV wavelength for your bulb. But i wouldn't use any of that, it's better to be depressed than have cancer or blindness. You can also burn down your furniture and bleach your items like wood and plastic.
      Also, i assume you're not fully educated and experienced on UV lights since you're asking this question (nothing wrong with it, just an honest observation, i'm no expert either) but if you're not fully familiar with all the wavelengths and dangers, i would suggest stay away from it or get an expert to guide you.
      Good luck and hope you start making yourself feel better! It all starts with your mind and your spirit, make yourself feel better from the core, forget about artificial crap.

I have a box with inside 730 365 385 and 285 nanometers divided in height by food film which creates two separate environments, , one from 0 - 150 upwards and 150 upwards for the lights .. I conditioned the air in the lower part from 18-21 45-50% humidity and just above the food film canopy (PE) 25-28 36-40 ..it is evident that the separate growth parameters are very different resulting in a reduction of photons lost especially in the UVB UV spectrum and 730 .. ... Alot of lights are incorporating uvb bulbs nowadays. Maxibright have released these uvb led strips , 60w strip is £230 to £290 . Way too expensive I've you ask me . But If they really increase resin and terpene production then it's worth it I suppose 👌.

      My understanding is uvb does not increase your yeild. What it does do is increase the trichome production when used during the final week or 2 of flower. Since too much uvb can be harmful for plants (and ppl), you really only give uvb during the last couple weeks of flower, and you only give your plants uvb a few hours a day

    • @seemyworld1
      @seemyworld1 Před 2 lety +2
