  • Finally work commences on the Monsville Railways Tri-ang Series 3 layout, River Bed Modelling.
This video shows progress over the last 4 months condensed into one video to tell the story of the River Bed painting/surfacing development and experimentation.
The filler in PVA glue that makes it go cloudy comment was learnt from watching a video by Kathy Millat in which she makes a water surface for a wharf/harbour from PVA glue.
The Light Blue River Wash was just a mixture of water and acrylic paint. There may be better ways to create this, but I haven't tried them yet. This approach worked for this experiment.
Leave a comment if you know a way of creating a better wash.
The River may not look fantastic close up at this point, but Remember the 4 foot or 1 meter rule for model railways. Mostly, the layout is viewed from a distance rather than close up, so the river so far gives a reasonable solution. Stay Tuned for Stage 2.

      Thanks Mike.
I think there is about 4 or 5 more steps to finish it.
I just have to work out how to accomplish step 1 and then I'll move on 🙄😅
These steps are the base coats after all.

Great effect work. SO many different ways to do water, just have to be sure of your colors and glue (unless one goes to resin pours- and, even then, lots of fun with sorting it all out).

Yes Anthony. The colour blending before the water surface is the next hurdle.
      This is only stage 1.
      Stay tuned. 👍

I used woodland scenics water crystal, what are disaster that was showed it in one of my vlogs. Did repair it with a lot of varnish. Think I got away with it.

      Thank for the comments.
I am Experimenting with PVA because it's cheap and non toxic and I've seen it work on other channels.
Kathy Millat makes a harbour using PVA Glue that looks great.
It's all just one big experiment 😅
Don't forget to check out the description for more details. 👍
Happy new year to you too Pete.
      Happy Modelling.
