I'd like to point out that Kurtis has informed me that it's pronounced 'KREH-ma', not 'CRAY-ma'. I'm from Oklahoma, so I feel like I should get a pass... 😂
Ask Kurtis how he pronounces 'Pecans'. One pronunciation is the actual nut, the other is something you keep in the back of the car when you don't want to stop for a bathroom break on a long road trip.
Hello sirs! Could you do a side by side comparison/shootout for HSS config for Grinder vs Crema? Not sure if the tone and guitar body would be different. Thank you sirs!
Brian, as Hispanic man, I can confirm you pronounced it correctly as 'KREH-ma'.
I have a Crema Neck and a Grinder Bridge too and I'm in love! The neck is super clear and warm and switch to the bridge only is like a turbo boost. Didn't realize anyone else had that combo! I had heard of it the other way around, but not the combo we both picked!
Thanks for such a great video Brian - I have been desperate to really hear the differences and that Ricardo Sanchez guitar! Love all the work you do - and Kurtis is a genius
Great job guys! Fantastic video!
Triple shot with crema 🔥🔥🔥🔥 best pick ups I’ve ever played for a strat!
great HSS config 🤙🏼
100%. My next guitar is getting triple shots. They sound amazing. Can’t decide if I want the grinder or crema in the bridge which is why I’m here lol. Leaning towards the Grinders though.
So as Brian mentioned how his preferred setup is a Grinder bridge and Crema neck, I can fully agree as that's what I have in my PRS SE. You can get some really nice lead tones with the Grinder that will easily stand out in the mix, while also having some really nice ambient tones with the neck position and everything in between.
I have an SE model and looking to do the same. Is it 2 or 4 wire conductor?
@@chrishernandez7669Assuming you can coil split the pickups like most SEs, you’ll want 4 wire!
@@mattfredericks5855 Awesome. Thanks!
I've gone through so many sets of pickups and cremas are my favorite for this type of music. Especially in a Tele style guitar. It's the clarity for me. Haven't tried the 4 wire version coil tapped though....hmmm
I like the Grinders a little better. They have a more traditional vintage sound of a great PAF to me. More crunchy to me. The Cremas are a little tame when it hits the gain. I heard more of the mid range and bite from the Grinders that I really like.
I've got the crema neck and grinder bridge and let me tell ya, when you go bridge only, it takes it to another level! I feel like the crema in the neck position is extremely clear, which is great for that darker tone without the mud.
i love the creamas. highly versatile. only thing tht might be drawback is hitting super high parts on very high gain when i cant push over the top(which doesnt happen very often)
I have core 2009 Custom 24 and thinking of changing to your recommendation of Crema for neck and Grinder for bridge, praise worship use case. How was your experience in other PRS pickup selection positions? (those split coil tones) What pickup did you have in the original PRS and how they compare? PS: My comes with 5 way rotary switches, HFS bridge and vintage Bass neck pickups.thanks in advanced.
I liked the grinders, for some reason, especially the overdriven sounds.
Brian, please! Purchase one of those pink Brave guitars. That color is kinda weird on a guitar but I still really like it!
Hi Would there be a lot of volume difference when you put Crema in neck and Grinder in bridge? Thanks!
Does anyone know how the grinders would sound on a mahogany body guitar? Thank you Brian for this excellent comparison.
I almost, ALMOST bought a set of “KREH-MAs”… but alas I did not…. Next guitar for sure will get a set of these.
Hmmmm.
I'm thinking about getting these for a guitar that would be pulling double-duty as a P&W instrument AND a Southern Rock thing. But I want the opposite: Grinder neck, Crema bridge.
which pickup do you recommend for a PRS SE custom
What is the pedal used for the octave sounding part at 2:12 ?
DC resistance isn't the only measure of output. You also have to consider factors like wire gauge
Very Interesting.. I reckon it's grinders for me. Seems to me (based on your recording etc of course lol) on lead lines and for rhythm guitar grinder just has that nice tone. Still bright but I can see the what you mean with compression.
Would have liked to have seen a practical application within a full band scenario
Wanna ask how can we in the UK buy?
I am a little disappointed that pickup height was never mentioned at all. The distance between the strings and pickups does make a big difference. You said the same strings were on both guitars, but were both sets of pickups the same distance from the strings? If so, I would really like to know what height they are set at.
Do you think you get less mileage out of these pickups playing modelers vs real amps?
The cremas are some of the most articulate humbuckers I have ever heard. That being said they are very expensive, all things considered. I'd be interested in seeing a comparison between these and Dimarzio EJ Customs and maybe something like a humbucker sized filtertron
I don’t have the creams, but I do have the ej customs. They are very articulate and bright. I would also like to see them compared to the Jason lollar el Rayo pickups
@@randallsmith6639 i have the el rayos. They are also very articulate and bright 😅. Compared to the cremas the el rayos have more mids. Don't know about the ej customs though
I had the EJs before I jumped to Cremas and there are days I miss em. =(
$200 for a humbucker pickup isn't "very expensive" though.
What pots do you prefer with these? 1M ohm? 500k?
Which do you like more, the Cremas or the Porter set?
So… curious, who’s got a Creme in the neck and Grinder in the bridge? Would like they’d be pretty complimentary.
That’s my preference
@@worshiptutorials still your preference?
como são lindas essas guitarras!
Ok which one can rival wizz paf?
Neither of these are PAF type pickups, so they’ll both sound pretty different than a PAF clone.
I will never pay that much for a pickup. I would wind my own first. There are so many options that are less expensive and sound great. They are nice sounding but unless churches are buying instruments most people cant pay the price for a Duesenberg or the price of lambertone pickups. I can get a nice Reverend that sounds great on the used market , and sometimes new, fir the price of the pickups. All that daid, if sineone can afford it they are great pickups if you have to get the nsme. The P&W can be crazy. Trends can be rampant.
I’ve owned several reverends because I love them. But if you own a Reverend you’re doing yourself a disservice for not upgrading the pickups (your also won’t get a Rev for under 550… these are 300… I’d buy these over another guitar anyway). Compared to the stock pups Cremas are incredibly more articulate. You could go with Lollar El Royals, but they are just as expensive.
I’ve picked my Cremas up used or for sale. 40-50 bucks off, and they are worth every penny. Pickups are one part of a guitar journey where they are completely worth the money.
They may be expensive, but worth saving for. I would get so much more joy out of them than getting coffee or going out to eat. So that’s a sacrifice I’d make in my life to buy them.
You’d spend way more getting the gear to be able to wind your own, and time is money.
